MTNL Joins BSNL, Offers Free Unlimited Night Calling
In a bid to keep the prominance of landline phones, BSNL and MTNL have started a free service for their landline customers. BSNL will offer free unlimited calls between 9pm to 7am to all fixed-lines and mobile phones across the country. While MTNL, which offers fixed-line services in Delhi and Mumbai will provide unlimited free local calling at night for their landline and broadband customers to any network. This service by MTNL will also commence from today between 10pm to 7am.
Both these services will be applicable for six months which will be reviewed depending upon the response. Anupam Shrivastava, chairman and managing director of BSNL said:
We hope to resurrect our fixed-line business and we hope that it will attract customers back to fixed-line.
BSNL hopes that their new scheme will help elevate landline subscriptions which has seen a steep fall over the past five years from 27.83 million in 2010 to 16.93 million in 2015 (March 31). Anupam Shrivastava also mentioned that “There will be some impact on revenues, but with only 10% calls made at night, it may go up to 15% with the offer. However, if we are able to add more customers, then, it is worth the attempt.”
We will have to wait and see how effective these plans turns out for MTNL and BSNL.
