Microsoft’s Jerry Nixon, a developer evangelist at the company’s Ignite conference said, “Right now we’re releasing Windows 10, and because Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, we’re all still working on Windows 10.”

This statement took away all the attention from the present Windows 10 buzz to a future no-new-Windows OS buzz. The statement made in brevity left speculations and rumours pouring in. Comprehending what Microsoft essentially means is that it wouldn’t come out with new versions as it used to traditionally. The company will now adopt a new way to cater to its consumers. Instead of naming a new OS, the tech giants will provide regular updates, upgrades, enhancements and improvements directly to the consumer. It will avoid releasing a completely new version, as of now.

Microsoft reportedly wants to launch Windows as a service but does not really elaborate on how it plans to do so. It won’t be unfair to say that it plans to operate in a similar fashion as Apple in terms of its OS.

Windows 10 aims to feature on all platforms at once, be it PC’s, laptops, smartphones, tablets, Xbox, HoloLens and create an ecosystem which will integrate all its products. The goal is to ensure that everybody is on the same version of the operating system.

The Verge got in touch with a Microsoft spokesperson who said, “Recent comments at Ignite about Windows 10 are reflective of the way Windows will be delivered as a service bringing new innovations and updates in an ongoing manner, with continuous value for our consumer and business customers.” He adds further, “We aren’t speaking to future branding at this time, but customers can be confident Windows 10 will remain up-to-date and power a variety of devices from PCs to phones to Surface Hub to HoloLens and Xbox. We look forward to a long future of Windows innovations.”

In order to be loyal to Microsoft, Windows users are expecting Windows 10 to not just have a visual overhaul but also have a much more resolved and seamless operating system.Windows 10 needs to provide a flawless OS this time since many Windows users in the past have considered other operating systems for their PC’s and laptops.
