After last years moments disappointment of a modular design, LG has taken in all the feedback from its angry customers and launched a revision to their flagship line at MWC 2017. The LG G6, is the company’s 2017 flagship and has the ability of being just that for the South Korean brand.
The LG G6 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset (as Samsung gets dibs on the Snapdragon 835 order) with quad-core processor and Adreno 530 GPU along with Android 7.0 Nougat. The phone has a 5.7 inch QHD+ FullVision display with a 2880 x 1440 px resolution and an awkward 18:9 aspect ratio. The LG G6 will be available in two variants – one with 4 GB RAM, 32 GB internal storage and the other with 4 GB RAM, 64 GB internal storage. Both the variants will have an expandable storage of up to 2 TB, when those card become available.
The LG G6 has a dual rear camera setup with two 13 MP sensors. One of the sensors supports wide-angle shots and has a 125 degree lens. The other sensor is for regular shots, with OIS 2.0 and 71 degree lens. The front camera is a 5 MP wide angle lens with a 100 degree field of view.
The LG G6 has a non-removable 3300 mAh Li-ion battery, which supports QuickCharge 3.0, and will work for more than a day according to LG. This will be the first non-pixel phone that will have the Google Assistant, which may excite some buyers. The LG G6 will also be the first phone that supports Dolby Vision video.
LG has not revealed the price bracket and/or availability of the LG G6 at the launch event at MWC in Barcelona. LG has however leveraged the large form factor of the LG G6’s display to create better multi-tasking and a better viewfinder for their camera App.
The LG G6 has a Usb Type-C port and much like the Samsung Galaxy 7, is IP68 water resistant. The front of the LG G6 houses a Gorilla Glass 3 protection, while the back has Gorilla Glass 5 in the curvature, along with Gorilla Glass 4 for the Camera lens covers at the back.
The design is a sealed unibody shell mix of metal and glass, which may be a refreshing change that LG needs for their lineup of plastic phones.
