Umi-X2

UMI X2 now available online, offers Full-HD display, Quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM; All for Rs.14000!

If you were too impressed with the specifications of Micromax Canvas HD and the price it is available at, this news will surely blow your mind! A Chinese smartphone-maker UMI has launched it’s flagship smartphone, the UMI X2 in India for Rs.14,000 and if the specifications are anything to go by, this is one smartphone you could have never imagined at such a low price.

So here it goes, the UMI X2 comes with a 5-inch Full-HD IPS display having a pixel density of  441 pixels per inch. The smartphone is powered by the MediaTek MTK6589 quad-core processor clocking at 1.2GHz, which is the same you would find inside the Micromax Canvas HD, but the UMI X2 pairs the processor with 2GB of RAM and PowerVR SGX544 GPU, unlike the Canvas HD, which comes with just 1GB of RAM. Now that’s more power than you could ever imagine at this price point.

Quick Specifications of UMI X2

  • 5-inch 1080p display
  • 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM
  • 13MP rear camera with flash, 3MP front camera
  • 32GB internal storage, micro-SD card slot
  • 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS
  • dual-SIM
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (upgradable to Android 4.2)
  • 2,500mAh battery

The UMI X2 runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out-of-the box and the company promises an update to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean by April 2013. The smartphone comes with 32GB of internal storage along with a micro-SD card slot, to further expand the storage by up to 32GB. The UMI X2 sports dual-SIM card slots and houses a 13 megapixel camera with flash at the back, along with a 3.0 megapixel front-facing camera. Phew! Seems too good to be true, doesn’t it?

The smartphone gets all the standard connectivity options like 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and also packs-in a 2,500mAh battery. The company says that the smartphone would be released between March 15-20. So, if you’re super-impressed (like us) with the on-paper specifications of the device, you can order one for yourself over here.

Please do not buy this mobile. This is a cheat company, has taken full amount online from thousands of users in India and have never given the phone nor the refund if requested. On the website you will not find any postal address and the numbers published are never answered. The refund policy mentioned is 10 working days but its almost 6 working months i have not received the refund.
As in my case i have paid full amount almost a year back and did not receive the phone for months and is requesting the refund from last 6 months.

UMI X2 – Cheating Indian public by Chinese Mobile company

I paid online Rs 16,500 on 1st August 2013 to UMI Mobile India
for purchase of UMI X2 mobile. The order was confirmed by UMI Mobile
India and they said that the mobile phone would be sent within 5 – 7
    working days.

After waiting for 7 days, I contacted UMI Mobile and asked about the
status of dispatch. They informed that it would take a month to deliver
the phone. Hence, I cancelled the order requested for refund.

Even after a week of request and sending my bank account details, UMI
Mobile India is not returning the money. I had sent two reminders asking
for refund. One Mr. Hemant called that they are processing the refund.
Whenever he spoke to me that he kept on repeating the same but they
never transferred the money till date. Today when I sent one more
    reminder, the mail got bounced.

I am very worried that Chinese mobile companies are cheating Indian
public.I think that I have lost my money. Such Chinese companies are
    merrily cheating public.

My advice is that we should never buy from fraudulent Chinese companies. It is better to buy from known websites.

Further I suggest that Indian Government should not allow fraudulent Chinese companies to operating online.

PradeepChaudhary do you know the manufacturing cost of samsung s4,….its around 10k approx,..but advertis,….service centers,r&d,export tax, import tax,…..so final cost is 41k in india,….but actual cost is around 10k,$244 from google search, cost of each part is mentioned on the net, total including assembling is 244$…..this clears your mind,….its not a joke,….manufacturing cost will be 7-8k on bulk for umix2,so they sell for 14k,….hope you got cleared.

I have placed a pre-order for the UMI x2 handset , but I found the website & delivery process to be quite inconvinient & un reliable, few points which I want to highlight
    1) There is no option for cash on delivery
    2) I had written to  on 28th March’13 for further clarifcation and till date I do not even have any form of acknowledgment or response
    3) The phone number provided on the website is switched off most of the time
    4) Finally when I was able to reachout to someone on the number provide, I spoke to Abhishek and even he did not have any answers wrt if there is a issue with the deliver of the handset post the payments have been made
5)The email address    is host thru zepo.in which raises further suspisions
After all this, I am apprehensive about ordering the handset thru their official site. Please let me know your views on this

Where to buy, i have seen one Uni mobile site, price was menioned 14k. But date delivery was not mentioned. Secondaly you need to pay money in advacne. There is no option for COD. Is there any idea when it will reach to retail stores.
Request to Mr Nagpal (igyaan), review the phone and let us know about the performance.

None of Indian smartphone brands including Micromax, Karbonn, Lava, Videocon, Onida, etc manufacture their products on their own, they source their smartphones either in fully assembled state or source individual parts from different vendors in China and then assemble in India with their final Brand name.

Don’t get fooled by high budget advertisements on print , online and TV  media by large Indian marketing companies like Micromax, Karbonn, etc

Outside India, no one has ever heard of brands like Micromax, Lava, Karbonn, etc but Chinese brands like UMI, XIAOMI,OPPO, JIAYU, THL, ZTE, HUAWEI , NEWMAN are household names in  Europe , Australia,Russia, Brazil and North America.

I strongly recommed UMI X2 and the soon to be launched  JIAYU G4

Don’t get carried away by million dollars advertisements , be smart !!!!!

Some important notes for the “Supposed Techie Reviewer”

The Chipset is good, even i know that but it “can” push 1080p screen as it’s not a dual-core. It would result in :-

    1.  Normal Battery Life as there is 2500 mAh battery to go along with the 1080p display (Except for Note2 & Moto Razr Maxx HD, I haven’t seen a good battery life.. There is no such thing as too much battery :))

    2.  It’s a PowerVR SGX544 GPU so it has enough gaming capabilities to run graphic intensive games (Normal fps).

    3.  I can say that while playing graphic intensive games it will heat up yes… but not in day to day normal use that much.

    4.  It’s true our eyes won’t distinguish detail above 300 ppi but it can see a real good screen when it see’s one, in this case a 1080p display compared to 720p display.

    5.  Sure it is a “China Phone” and u can’t trust it won’t give up after a few months.

    6.  Almost no service centres in India (though I must say MMX service centres are pathetic and it almost amounts to non-existent in some aspects).

    7.  For the UMI X1 there is a user base, hence there are Custom ROM’s that would be available for X2 after a length of time.

    8.  RAM is 2GB as you pointed out, but even you can’t ascertain whether the MMX RAM is also a good quality product now can you? You say no info about it and you jump to conclusions as to the RAM’s capabilities & reliability. I would like to know which company has disclosed it’s RAM details (read : which company, etc.) about their phones.

    9.  Internal Storage is 32GB, but as you say it would actually be a 32GB SD card mounted inside huh? I would like to know your source of that information for that too. Again it is all guesswork on your part as you say it’s very cheap hence it has to be that way. Again guesswork, show us the proof please :)

Conclusion : Please show us the facts to support your arguments about the device against the MMX A116 HD

End Note : Regardless of the self proclaimed techie’s advice, I’ll say that this is a Chinese Phone and they tend to be cheap. But cheap doesn’t necessarily translate to quality & reliability. Hence, it depends upon yourself to determine whether you want this phone or not. Wait for the benchmarks, hands-on & reviews and make an informed decision :))

    • DhananJayShembekar

@rk_ftw Totally Agree.I myself own a Xiaomi MI 2.its great better than 99% phones out there.

      • SangeetKhatri

@DhananJayShembekar  @rk_ftw  that is because the Xiaomi MI 2 has the best midrange CPU and GPU out there and they are pushing just 720p not 1080p

    • SangeetKhatri

@rk_ftw Brag on me as much as you can i don’t care, let this come out and then we will see. Anyways many companies tried 720p displays on MTK 6577 and it failed on Gaming with pathetic framerates, so i am sure my guess would be pretty much right,Anyways the MTK6859 scored the just playable on Canvas HD screen, with nenamark 2 score of 40fps and with a 1080p screen on same chipset this would be like pushing almost the double pixels with the same chipset, so not a good idea, the framerates would be like 20, that would be low. So it can run the screen at 1080p but not play games smoothly, the SGX 544 is not at that level still. And CPU does not help in displaying the GPU does.

I am sure that PowerVRSGX 544 can’t play dead trigger at 1080p smoothly, i can really put my money on that

And 720p is not bad as it offers the same quality as 1080p because of ppi, so why waste the processing power for that? Pushing double the pixels

And the 32gb SD card inside cannot be false as if would that have been real internal storage the half the price of the phone would be gone in just memory, Real internal storage is not at all cheap, don’t believe me check the wholesale prices of internal memory online.Anyways, if you really want to go, go ahead, it a free country anyways, i was just giving some advice based on my previous experiences and the little knowledge i could have shared with people with so much brains like you. :)

Anyways i am not going to reply anymore on this thing as i don’t like online trolling, so call me a ____________ or another _______ or a retarted __________. I wouldn’t reply so go ahead. But simple thing is that i wouldn’t put my money on that.

      • PriteshPanjiker

@SangeetKhatri  @rk_ftw agree.. Stick to major brands for better features..

        • SangeetKhatri

        • ArvindRamani

@PriteshPanjiker  @SangeetKhatri  @rk_ftw chinese are geniuses man major brands know only how 2 brand and market…. apple is an amazing example of it…

      • ultrasonichero

@SangeetKhatri  @rk_ftw  It can easily play Dead Trigger and dead space and other heavy gmes. If PowerVR  SGX 54o of Galaxy Tab 2, can play it why cant this one. My friend has Tab 2.

        • SangeetKhatri

          @ultrasonichero  @rk_ftw
Galaxy Tab 2 has just 1024×600 resolution while this thing has 1920×1080
that is 614400 pixels in Galaxy Tab vs 2073600 pixels of this phone with the same GPU, it is pushing more than 3 times the pixels and maintaining details at that resolution would not be possible for that chip, even if it could play that, if you don’t got what i said then better go for the phone and see it for yourself

        • ultrasonichero

  • SangeetKhatri

Some important things to note for the device.

The chipset is good I know but not that good to push 1080p screen. This combination would result in.
    1. Significantly Less Battery life.
    2. Less gaming capabilities (low fps).
    3. Heating Problems (even though MTK6589 is cool pushing so much pixels will cause the GPU to heat ).
    4. Anyways our eyes can’t even distinguish above 300 PPI so for our eyes 720p on a 5 inch screen is equivalent to 1080p on a 5 inch screen.5. It is a china phone after all, can’t trust without using.
    6. Almost no service centres in India.
    7. No userbase, hence no Custom Roms, Rooting methods and other user hacks would be available.

    Other Things:-
    1. RAM is good 2GB, but at this price seems they used the cheapest one, no idea from what company and hence no real reliability.
    2. Inbuilt storage is good, 32GB but it would be a actually 32GB SD card mounted inside the phone, that is Storage would be in 2 parts Real Internal Storage and Mounted SD Storage and apps that cannot be installed in the card would not install in that 32GB storage otherwise it will go in the real internal storage which would not be more than 1GB at this price.

My Conclusion : Do not buy this phone, even with good hardware the combination is not good enough and many compromises are done to reduce price. So please don’t try if you are buying this against the Canvas HD. I would still recommend going for Canvas HD as combination is a lot better than this phone.

This phone could give you the specs to boast about but in the long run, it would not give the best experience, that part is still left for 30k phones. Canvas HD is still the best in this range.

    • AbhinabaBasu

@SangeetKhatri I agree with you regarding 1080p resolution. But here are some difference between Micromax Canvas HD and Umi X2.
      1. 2GB Ram – Even if you doubt the quality, can we ascertain of the quality of Micromax HD Ram.
      2. Corning Gorilla Glass 2
      3. 13MP Camera

Btw, their UMI x1 model is quite popular. Also it have got few userbase and custom rom for UMI x1.

However here are some points to consider:
      1. Service Center (as of now 0)
      2. First time in my life, I find out that some company discuss with a blogger (gogi.in) to fix their phone pricing. I love to have Umi x2, but I really doubt if UMI India really represents UMI Brand. It can be a huge scam.

      • SangeetKhatri

        @AbhinabaBasu
        1. Certainly no, but guessing by the price, having a 2gb ram at this price this looks impossible, with other what they call high end specs. wheras the 1GB can be easily had in that price segment.

        2. Now that is a strong point, i am sorry i missed that.

        3. Megapixels are not equivalent to quality, the HTC one which costs more that 40,000 has 4mp camera but the quality is better than any other phone except Nokia 808 pureview, and yeah Canvas HD’s camers is not good, so for camera things don’t matter much between the two.

As for the gogi.in case LOL, i saw the blog of umimobile.in posting reviews of themobileindian.com in thier blogs :D, that is so much unprofessional. It doesn’t look like a company, looks like some Post Graduate Engineers are making the phones in a 10×10 ft office.

        • AbhinabaBasu

@SangeetKhatri  I don’t doubt about UMI, they are really trustworthy and established brand in China. Their UMI x1 is quite popular. But I do doubt about UMI India, totally unprofessional, just look like a cheap salesman. They first said that the phone will come out with a price within 12600, then they launch with Rs. 19000. After a hour they slashed their price to Rs. 14000, after consulting with gogi.in. I will be really happy if they really represent UMI. I feel it can be scam, to loot money which will they gain from preorders, and simply disappear.

        • SangeetKhatri

@AbhinabaBasu or maybe they give the phone with just some other hardware, which chinese companies do a lot, promise something give something.

One china phone said 5mp camera and the same was written in the back panel, but it had only 3mp

    • ArvindRamani

      @SangeetKhatri
to your 1 2 and 3 points it is not a chipset its a soc system on chip with cpu gpu and other units like wifi bluetooth and gps integrated on the same silicon dye for cpu… the powervr graphics is awesome is the same which is rumored to b used in the samsung s4 (ofc here in the single version avatar vs the 3 core in the s4) it can easily push 4k resolution and 1080p is dust compared 2 it….
the tdp is there for a reason and thats 2 keep heat down. that and the fact that its cortex a7 with in order architecture should also help. also the gpu and cpu in soc are in different parts of the dye and traditionally cpu design allocate the resources using a highly effecient algorithm based on their usage .. the only point of concern is proper ventilation but then that aint present on any other phone either wat with them wanting 2 win beauty pageants
our eyes cant differentiate but photos (by dslr) can damn well do(at 100 % zoom) and at 440 ppi the scripts of most languages appear damn near real or as real as on paper ….. the war of specs is an exciting albeit dumb one … atleast u can boast about it cant u ?
u have no idea abt china do u …. every damn phone has somethin made from china man…. chinese phones are awesome and they are levelling up in terms of build quality and finish and these ones like xiaomi are gonna b a hit in the home country…. this is far better than micromax …. forget roms and roots not wat an average user would do…
now rams have for the past year fallen tragically so much so thant many companies have shut down due to losses incurred … it is only in jan that nand prices have just started 2 inch up … 2gb ram aint gonna cost so much … over 1 gb … micromax just wants 2 keep a larger profit margin…( u can take a guess of samsung and then apple in that order and magnitude)
internal memory yes have read somewhere abt 32 gb sd card being used as internal memory …slower than nand and slower access times 2 but the flash i think could b embedded as the primary memory …. shouldnt affect ur ability 2 install apps or download them… but apps will load slower on2 the ram though 2gb ram should offset it … and ram might have lower latencies but should not be worser than what u get on ur micromax a116
now all that it comes to is whether it has service centres? does it even have 1 ? if u can take the risk then u might b rewarded …
if there are service centres then it should b no problem go for it blind eyed…. that is my opinion…
compared 2 sony xperia z or htc butterfly this costs a pittance…

      • SangeetKhatri

@ArvindRamani It is also called chipset go to any gsmarena specs page and see it for yourself for you i would say. Go for that phone it is amazing for guys like you. :D
The chipset thing proves what you are why should i give more explaination? Smart guys like you are the future of the country, so yeah go ahead :D

  • SnsBaid

i dont think they can maintain quality at these prices

  • DhananJayShembekar

WT!~…. This is some hardcore specs…but i BET the benchmarks will be not that good.please i mean i hope now…if even tht is good…then UMI X2 will own MICROMAX
