Report : BMW 1 Series To Launch In September
Indian Premium hatch segment seems to be heating up with every launch. Another addition from BMW India may set it on fire with its BMW 1 Series. According to sources, BMW India is all set to launch the BMW 1 Series in September 2013 and the car was recently spotted testing on the Indian roads. BMW 1 series will be another addition to the interesting list of the premium hatchbacks in the Indian car market. Even Mercedes recently launched its A Class over a month ago in India.
BMW India’s Chennai facility will assemble the car which is brought here via the CKD (completely knocked down) route, this BMW 1 series is going to be available in range of engines between 1.6 litres to 3.0 litres for the petrol variants and 1.6 litres to 2.0 litres for diesel variants. The new 1 Series is going to become the 3rd car from the Bavarian car maker to be launched in India this year.
Mercedes A Class which saw over 400 bookings within weeks, shows the excitement in Indian people for this segment. As per reports, BMW India has already geared up and started the marketing initiatives for this upcoming BMW 1 series hatch. Under this initiative, ten ‘lucky’ winners would go on a fully paid trip to Germany and get to drive the 1 Series along with cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar and Indian FIA GT driver, Armaan Ebrahim.
Being the smallest and the least priced car from BMW India, the BMW 1 Series hatch cars would be powered by a 2 litre turbocharged diesel engine with max power-torque figure of 184Bhp-380Nm and a 2 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that has a max power-torque figure of 150Bhp-200Nm. The engines will come mated to an eight speed automatic gearbox. Also, BMW would like to price this series 1 hatch at around Rs. 20 to 22 lakhs for the Indian market competition.
