Astounding 30,000 Bookings For Ford Ecosport In Two Weeks
When Ford launched its new compact SUV, the Ford EcoSport on June 26, 2013 with an unexpected starting price of Rs 5.59 lakh, it was pretty much clear that Ford is targeting numbers here and they don’t want to repeat the same mistake as they did with the new Ford fiesta pricing, and numbers never came. Recently Ford has announced that the Ford EcoSport has already got an astounding 30,000 bookings since the launch. Which makes it the third new launch that has hit the sweet spot this summer after Honda Amaze and the Mercedes Benz A Class.
“We had high expectations from the Ford EcoSport and the unabated response post the launch has been truly gratifying. Consumers are appreciating the value-for-money proposition that we are offering in the EcoSport’s compelling and smart package. The Ford India team is working closely with the suppliers at our Chennai facility to enhance output of the EcoSport to reduce the waiting period and to meet the high demand,” said Joginder Singh, president and managing director, Ford India.
Ford EcoSport ranges from Rs 5.59 lakh to Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), is avaiable in 10 variants and three engine options, a 1.0-litre petrol EcoBoost plus the 1.5-litre petrol, While the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine develops a maximum of 125PS of power, the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel units put out 112PS and 91PS respectively. All three engines in Ford EcoSport come mated to the standard 5-speed manual gearbox also employed in the Fiesta though the 1.5-litre petrol. Ford claims a fuel efficiency figure of 18.9kmpl for the EcoBoost-powered version.
The sub-4 metre compact SUV is also the first car in India to offer Ford’s voice-enabled in-car connectivity system, SYNC. This means you can operate your Bluetooth-enabled phone and USB devices, dial calls, read out text messages and browse and select music tracks via voice commands. In terms of safety equipment, the EcoSport will come with Ford’s Emergency Assistance system. This system enables the car to deliver a voice message directly to emergency operators in the event of an accident in which the airbags have been deployed or fuel pump shut-off is triggered.
The waiting period for the EcoSport is already at 6 months now and constantly growing. “Ford India is working hard to optimize deliveries and reduce the waiting time for delivery,” said Ford.
