Hyundai Will Also Get ‘Grand i10 Sedan’ In 2014
India’s second-biggest car maker Hyundai, is planning to introduce a entry level sedan to take on segment heavyweights like Maruti Dzire and Honda Amaze. This new entry level sedan will use the Hyundai’s upcoming Grand i10 platform. The carmaker is reportedly working on this new model (Grand i10 Sedan) which could go on sale during in the first half of 2014.
The Hyundai Grand i10 Sedan will share the same wheelbase as the forthcoming Grand i10. The model will be under four meters in length and comply with other technical requirements that would help the car attract lower excise duty.
“The under-four-meter sedan segment is very attractive. It holds volumes and is growing at a fast pace. It does interest us to consider a product here,” said Rakesh Srivastava, senior VP at Hyundai India.
Under the hood the Grand i10 Sedan will get the same set of engine options as the Grand i10, which means the familiar 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine and the all-new 1.1-litre VGT ‘U2’ diesel engine will be on offer. Also the Grand i10 Sedan will come with 5 speed manual gearbox as standard and the petrol will get a 4 speed automatic gearbox as an option.
Hyundai has tasted success in the premium segment with models like Accent and Elantra. But, it does not have an entry-level sedan, though it’s a promising segment. As a reminder, Hyundai India recently discontinued the Accent, fourteen years after it first hit production. It’s also been reported that Hyundai might bring back ‘Accent’ nameplate, which seems less of a possibility to us.
We will get more updates on the Hyundai Grand i10 Sedan, So stay tuned..
