The HDMI Forum Inc, today officially announced the launch of the 2.0 version of HDMI. The launch seems well planned keeping in mind the need for the latest ultra HDTV’s(4K), the 2.0 HDMI will add some improvements to the connection standard.

With a bandwidth capacity of up to 18Gbps, it has enough room to carry 3,840 x 2,160 resolution video at up to 60fps, this is 4 times the clarity of 1080p/60 video resolution, will support 32 audio channel and auto lip-sync and extensions to CEC.

The connector and the wire will be same as before, as the company claims the wire is capable of handling more bandwidth without being changed. We will get some detailed information this week from IFA in Berlin. Stay tuned!
