Sony Launches HMZ-T3W Head Mounted Display
Sony has launched the next iteration of its popular HMZ Series of head mounted displays. The all new Sony HMZ-T3W launched at this year’s IFA is a successor to the last year launched HMZ-T2 and this is also the third generation of in-your-face dual-screen headware by the company.
Sony HMZ-T3W comes in a new wireless iteration. The third generation of the Sony headset display now includes a semi-wireless features that allows you to stream media directly to the display. Although you still need to be tethered to a battery pack while you are watching your favourite movie. According to Sony, the battery on the HMZ-T3 can support up to three-hours with a wireless HD connection. On HDMI, it can supposedly go up to seven hours.
The head-mounted display supports 60GHz wireless transmission and has dual 720p OLED displays similar to what it was in its predecessor HMZ-T2. The HMZ-T3W can play back both 2D & 3D videos and with a 720p OLED screen aimed at each eye for an experience of a huge 750-inch screen being viewed from about 19 meters away. It supports 3D content via HDMI from Blu-ray players and also boasts of 7.1 channel surround sound capabilities.
The version that requires wired connection between battery box and a slightly lighter processor unit is called the HMZ-T3. Other than supplied earphones with 13.5-mm drivers that have 105 dB per mW sensitivity and a frequency range of 5 Hz to 24 kHz, the specs are the same as the wireless model.
The Sony HMZ-T3W will be landing in Europe over the next few weeks priced at around £1,300.
