Final Fantasy VI Coming to iOS And Android
As Square Enix director and producer Takashi Tokita told Kotaku, a modified version of Final Fantasy VI is on its way to iOS and Android this winter. The smartphone version takes the original and modifies it with refined graphics—still 2D but sharpened like Final Fantasy V‘s mobile release—and adjustments to the battle system that allow for less grinding.
“Square Enix has been offering smart phone versions of the Final Fantasy series which allow players to experience the roots of Final Fantasy which were released in the series’ dawning age,” Final Fantasy director Tokita said. “The games are part of our legacy campaign for Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy VI is now under development and will be available this winter. Just like Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy VI will be a refined 2D remake and we will be implementing an auto battle system for easier leveling up.”
Square Enix originally released Final Fantasy VI for Super Nintendo in 1994. It is a fantasy adventure with steampunk elements. Many fans consider it the best game in the franchise.
When Kotaku asked what was next for the series, Tokita suggested “If this Legacy project works out well, we would like to one day be able to work with VII.”
