Report : Airtel Begins 4G Trials in Chennai; Headed to Mumbai and Hyderabad Next
Starting today, Chennai will be the recipient of 4G services provided by Telecom major Bharti Airtel. According to PTI sources, Airtel will start trial of 4G services in Chennai from May 14 on 1800 Mhz band. The company has sent out invites to bloggers to experience its services.
Airtel customers in Chennai will get a complimentary upgrade to Airtel 4G at 3G prices to experience Airtel 4G speeds. This will be taken as an opportunity by the company to gather customer feedback for the quality of its 4G services. In order to avail this offer, customers with LTE enabled mobile devices have to upgrade to Airtel 4G SIM card. Mumbai and Hyderabad will be the next cities to receive the 4G services by the end of this month.
“The company’s network to launch FDD LTE (4G) in Hyderabad is also ready. The trials for the same are expected to start this month. In Mumbai, the company will provide TDD LTE (4G) in 2300 Mhz band. The trial for Mumbai 4G service is also planned for this month,” the source said.
Airtel is currently offering 4G services in 19 cities across the country. The cities include Kolkata, Bengaluru, Pune, Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula.
