Moto G5 And G5 Plus Start Receiving Android 8.1(Oreo) Update
Google launched its latest Android 9.0 Pie OS last month. But, many smartphone manufacturers are still rolling out the updates of the former Android 8.1 Oreo version. While Google’s Pixel smartphones are already running on the Android 9.0, Lenovo-owned Motorola’s Moto G5 and G5 Plus have started receiving Android 8.1 Oreo update. The update is still not available globally. The Moto G5 update will only be available in Mexico. Whereas, the Moto G5 Plus has started receiving the Oreo update in India and Brazil. The update has been rolled out in phases, which means it may take longer for all devices to start receiving it. Motorola has expressed that the Android Oreo update will soon be available in other regions as well. But, the company has not revealed any timelines or schedules.
The Motorola Moto G5 has a 5-inch, 1080 x 1920 pixels FHD+ screen and is powered by 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC. The smartphone has a 3GB RAM and 16GB RAM. For the cameras, the Moto G5 has a 13MP, f/2.0 rear camera along with a 5MP front facing camera.

The Moto G5 Plus on the other hand has a 5.2-inch, 1080 x 1920 pixels FHD+ screen, along with a 4GB RAM and 32 GB expandable storage. Under the hood, it has Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC. The smartphone features a 12MP Dual Pixel camera with an f/1.7 aperture along with a 5MP front camera.
In the past years Motorola was known for quick software updates to their otherwise robust phones. The company has fallen short of its promises in the last year, where their high selling G series devices are yet to receive the Android 8.1 update from 2017. Motorola has already announced the launch of the Moto G6 Plus in India, and the company also recently launched the Moto G6.
