Amazon Launches new Echo Speakers, Subwoofer Starting Rs 4499 On Sale Now
Amazon launched a new series of devices including a newly designed Echo, Echo Connect, Echo Plus, Echo Spot and Echo Button. The retail giant also launched devices like a voice-controlled microwave and a wall clock. With these products, Amazon is on its way to strengthen its foothold into the domain of home-appliances. The company recently expressed its ambition to make their automated assistant Alexa ubiquitous. However, the new products have done little to add to Alexa’s capabilities. Instead, Amazon has worked on enhancing the design and sound of the products.
The new Amazon Echo devices include:
1. The Echo Dot
Amazon Echo Dot is one of the most popular voice-controlled speakers. Now Amazon has launched it with improved sound quality and a new design. The device has a speaker size of 1.6 inch and weighs around 300 grams. It can also be connected via a 3.5 mm cable or Bluetooth. The improved voice quality enables Alexa to catch your far-field voice and carry out your orders. From setting your alarm to daily news and more, Alexa is well equipped to carry out your daily tasks. You can also ask Alexa about the movie showtimes, restaurant hours or use your voice to set timers, and create event reminders.
The device is priced at Rs 4,499. Moreover, the Echo Dot can place free audio calls to the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
2. The Echo Plus
For Echo Plus, Amazon is using the Zigbee protocol, a widely used smart home protocol that connects sensors, bulbs and camera and enable easy and inexpensive communication between these devices. Along with all the “Ask Alexa” features of Echo Dot, the Echo Plus also has a temperature sensor. It has new premium speakers powered by Dolby play 360 degree. The Echo Plus is also equipped with features like seven microphones, beam forming technology, and noise cancellation, enabling it to hear you from any direction, even while music is playing.
The device is priced at Rs 14,999.
3. The Echo Show
Amazon has revamped the Echo Show by giving the speakers an improved sound quality, and a new 10 inch HD screen. The bigger screen will let you see lyrics more easily and offers a better experience while streaming music, as well as watching movies, TV shows and the news. It also features a new fabric design, together with eight microphones and far-field technology. Like other newly launched products in the Echo Series, Echo Show allows you to place calls and control compatible Zigbee devices through a simple smart-home setup.
Echo Show is still priced at $229.99. If you also want an additional stand to tilt your Echo Show to adjust the viewing angle and camera, you can get it for $24.99.
4. The Echo Sub
Amazon Echo Sub is a subwoofer, a loudspeaker that reproduces low bass frequencies, and is priced $129.99. The device can be wirelessly paired with the series of Echo devices through Alexa to deliver better sound. Moreover, the 6-inch woofer delivers down-firing, 100W deep bass sound. You can also pair the Echo Sub with two of the same compatible Echo devices for rich left/right stereo sound.
The device is priced at Rs 12,999.
5. Amazon Smart Plug
The smart plug can be connected with compatible devices including lights, fans, coffee makers, and more. The device allows you to control your home appliances, through voice control as well as remote control if you are operating the devices through long distance. The Smart Plug, priced at $24.99, is easy to set up and can help you to maintain your routines and schedules.

8. Echo Wall Clock
A first glance, Echo Wall Clock looks like your regular analogue wall clock. However, you can connect it to your Echo devices to visually enhance timers, alarms and reminders. The clock is powered by batteries and is 10 inches in height. It can be connected to other Echo devices via bluetooth and is only available in the U.S. for $29.99.
9. The Echo Link and Echo Link Amp
Both, the Echo Link and Echo Link Amp will be available in the U.S. initially for $200 and $300 respectively. Both the devices can stream music using Alexa, either via speakers or through a stereo system.
The Echo Link features analog, optical, coax, headphone 3.5mm, and subwoofer line-outs; and analog, optical, and coax line-ins. It also has a volume knob, an Ethernet port for reliable connectivity, and support for multi-room music through Alexa.
Echo Link Amp is Echo Link with a built-in 60W, 2-channel amplifier. Additionally it has left-right speaker binding post outputs to support wiring directly to passive and non-powered speakers.
10. AmazonBasics Microwave
The AmazonBasics Microwave is available in the US-only for now and is priced at $60. It can be connected to an Echo device, which will allow you to control your cooking timings through voice. The microwave also has an Auto Popcorn Replenishment feature which can automatically reorder popcorn when you are out of popcorn. The device has a compact size, plus 10 power levels, a kitchen timer, and a child lock.
This new Echo series aligns with Amazon’s ambition to make Alexa’s presence known in areas where people spend majority of their time, that is, at home and in their cars. Recently, Audi revealed a new fully electric E-tron SUV making it the first vehicle to integrate Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa.
