The much awaited game-Red Dead Redemption 2 was finally released by Rockstar Games a few of days back. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a tale of a gang of outlaws on the run in late 19th century America. The game is set 12 years before the events of the original game. According to Sony, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the most pre-ordered full game on PS4’s PlayStation Network and has the biggest day one and three day sales of any game. The developer, Rockstar Games announced that the game had generated over $725 million in worldwide sales, three days after the launch.

Breaking the Records

This is the is the biggest opening weekend in the history of entertainment. Variety magazine points out that this has beaten Avengers: Infinity Wars, which has the highest grossing opening weekend in the film industry. The game’s success had send the stock price of Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive up by almost 12%. This also makes Red Dead Redemption 2 the biggest entertainment launch of 2018.

However, Grand Theft Auto V, another game made by the same company still holds the record for the highest grossing entertainment launch. Grand Theft Auto V was launched in 2013 and became an instant hit. It was a much needed update in the Grand Theft Auto series. The game made $1 billion in its first three days. Although, Red Dead Redemption 2 still claims the title for the biggest opening weekend to date.

The success of Red Dead Redemption 2 comes ahead of the release of its online multiplayer feature. Rockstar Games plans to release the beta version in November. It is expected that the Red Dead Redemption 2 figures will continue to rise in the coming months. The Online mode will provide a contribution to it. Rockstar Games may have another top-selling title in its arsenal.
