The Chinese smartphone giant, Huawei has recently launched the Mate 20 Pro. It is a flagship phone by the company which features a triple camera setup made in collaboration with Leica. The Mate 20 features a HiSilicon Kirin 980 processor. It ships in 6 GB and 8 GB RAM variants with 128 GB and 256 GB storage capacity. The phone also ships with a unique reverse charging feature. This allows the Mate 20 to charge any other Qi charging compatible phone. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro has a 6.39 inch Curved OLED display with a resolution of 3120 x 1440 px.

Screen Discolouration

Many users who have bought the phone have been complaining about an issue which shows yellow or greenish spots on the edge of the display. The discolouration can be seen when the phone has white or grey wallpapers. A yellowish or greenish colour can be seen around the edges under weak lighting on affected devices. The issue affected a large number of users. Because of the growing number of complaints on forums and social media, a Huawei UK community forum manager published the following statement:

“The Mate 20 Pro uses an industry-leading flexible OLED screen featuring special design curved edges for an enhanced visual experience and holding comfort. This may lead to slight discolouration when viewed from different angles.

The problem can be replicated in extremely dim lighting conditions, when the screen brightness is too low. If the colour cast affects your normal use, take your phone to an authorized Customer service Center for assistance.” said the manager.

However, while not an official statement by Huawei, The company spokesperson reached out to clarify that it has not yet released an official statement regarding the subject. According to users, the problem is widespread amongst LG’s OLED panels. However, handsets featuring BOE’s displays don’t have these issues. Some reports state that the colour shift is because of the glue that Huawei uses in their displays. Users are still waiting for an official statement from Huawei.
