Mahindra and Mahindra has shaken the D-segment SUV market with the launch of the XUV500. The company has cherished the super success of its Scorpio model for five years in a row and with XUV 500, Mahindra is expecting to further climb the ladder of supremacy and dominance. Mahindra XUV 500 is a crossover in which X represents SUV for Gen X whereas 5 stands for the 5th Mahindra SUV.
The Mahindra XUV500 has been developed from scratch and only one thing that is common in Scorpio and XUV500 is the mHawk diesel engine (which has also been fine-tuned to develop 140 bhp of maximum power and 330 nm of maximum torque). There is a six-speed manual gearbox with two variants as far as transmission is concerned – XUV 500 two-wheel drive model and XUV 500 four-wheel drive model. Micro-hybrid technology for better fuel efficiency is also in place in this new SUV.
The XUV 500 has futuristic features of digital integration for the passenger like integrated music system, automatic climate control system and integrated global positioning system. Multiple charging points are placed in each seating row for smartphones, and laptop onboard, with an inbuilt laptop holder. Safety features like front and rear disc brakes, 6 SRS airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), ESP (Electronic Stability Program), EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution), Reverse parking sensors/Reverse guide system and Cruise control plus Traction control makes it unmatchable in terms of performance, technology, safety and comfort.
Priced between Rs.10.80 lac and Rs. 12.88 lac, It is for sure that with all these features at less than the expected prices the XUV 500 is definitely good value for money. The main rivals of Mahindra XUV500 are Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Captiva, Ford Endeavour and recently launched Hyundai Santa Fe.
