AutoGyaan: Car Maintenance During Winters
Winters are here and your car needs special care. Here’s how you can upkeep your car during the season:
1. Take care of the windshield wiper blades: Fill your windshield-cleaner fluid tank with a winter-rated fluid. Antifreeze is added to the normal cleaner fluid so that it can handle colder temperatures. Also, keep the gas tank as full as possible to prevent moisture from freezing in the gas lines.Put a bottle of fuel de-icer in your tank once a month.
2. Battery check is Vital: Clean the battery terminal ends and add water, then load-test to check its ability to charge. If the battery is over four years old , you must replace it or get it serviced. Put together an emergency winter kit in the trunk of your car. The supply kit should contain battery jumper cables.
3. Pressure check for tires: Use a tire gauge to check tire pressure. Air contracts with the cold and tires may become low as temperature drops. So make sure the pressure is right in the tires, check there is air is the spare tire and that all proper tire-changing equipment in in the car before driving out.
4. Maintenance of brakes: Get your brakes checked if you haven’t had one in the last six months. Lights, heater and defroster must be in good working condition for passenger comfort and driver visibility.
