• Sony Has Reportedly Shipped Over 90 Million PlayStation 4 Units

Sony Has Reportedly Shipped Over 90 Million PlayStation 4 Units

PlayStation has not been known to release sales figures. But occasionally we do get to know details of PlayStation sales. This time around, the source is The Hunter, who serves as a senior gaming, tech and media editor for Walmart Canada. According to his statement in a popular micro-blogging website, PlayStation 4 crossed 90 Million units in sales.

This is no easy feat since Sony had confirmed in late October, that the company has shipped over 86 million shipments worldwide. Given the holiday season where everyone gave gifts has just passed, another 4 or 5 million in sales is not surprising. However, what is disconcerting is that Sony is said to be not participating in E3 this year. The PlayStation 5 has ben long anticipated. Specially since it has been almost 5 years since the playStation 4’s launch.

    Sony’s Statement

In a statement by Sony, they said that PlayStation fans mean the world to them and they always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, they have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. They have also said that they are exploring new and familiar ways to engage their community in 2019 and can’t wait to share their plans with the gamers. This has led to speculations suggesting that Sony might be planning their own event where they release a new PlayStation console. This kind of a stunt has previously been seen with big players like Microsoft and EA.

Another reason for Sony’s no-show is also believed to be the lack of game titles that are to be released in 2019 for the PS4 console. The very few games that are yet to be released include The Last of Us: Part 2, Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima. It will be exciting if Sony does release a new console in 2019 itself and not 2020. However, some speculations now suggest a 2020 release, but we will just have to wait and see what happens.

  • Sony ‘Silently’ Introduces New PlayStation 4 Pro Which Is Much Quieter

Sony ‘Silently’ Introduces New PlayStation 4 Pro Which Is Much Quieter

It has been two years since the launch of the PlayStation 4, and Sony has introduced a version which is quieter than the old models. The new PlayStation 4 bearing the model number CUH-7200 is significantly quieter. Now this may not seem like a big deal to people who have never owned a PlayStation before but it is. PlayStations are extremely noisy and can reach an unbearable decibel when used.

A few websites did a test on the new PS4 Pro and compared it to the older one. The new PS4 reportedly runs a bit hotter than the original model, but its fan remains a lot quieter. A reputed gaming website also recorded the decibel count. The new Sony PlayStation 4 Pro recorded 48 decibels at its loudest, compared to 55 decibels in the original. PlayStations have been known for their loud noise and the ‘Jet Engine Effect’ which can be extremely distracting for gamers. This move from Sony is a welcome change. They are generally loud because they generate a lot of heat and thus the fans have to work a lot to cool it down, causing a lot of noise. Playing games like Marvel’s Spider-Man and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey which have high graphics requirements makes the PS4 extremely hot and noisy.

    One More Thing

Another significant change includes a new power adapter. It is a figure eight power adapter, like the ones used in Xbox models. There is very little else that has changed. Some websites have also reported that the PS4 Pro will be bundled with Red Dead Redemption 2. The Red Dead Redemption 2 PS4 Pro bundle is currently available for $ 399 on Amazon. With Black Friday and Christmas coming up, there will be massive discounts on gaming consoles. Since both models look similar, it is best to check the model number before buying.

  • You May Soon Be Able To Play PUBG On Your PlayStation 4

You May Soon Be Able To Play PUBG On Your PlayStation 4

With PUBG hitting Xbox One, there are strong rumours that PUBG may soon feature on PlayStation 4 as well. The full release on Xbox One also had a label stating “console launch exclusive”. Reading between the lines, this can only mean further console releases at some point of time. Members of a video gaming forum recently unearthed the existence of promotional PUBG images that were sitting on the PS4 servers. These images were linked to an apparent digital game ID code. Searches with the code do not bring up anything on the Play Station website. However, the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea has apparently rated PUBG. This strongly hints at the game’s Play Station version’s existence.

PUBG is a battle royale game that first launched on PC on the Steam platform, which has since taken the world by storm. It has found success in its mobile version. It has faced tough competition from games such as Fortnite and very recently Call Of Duty Black Ops 4 which also are, or have Battle Royale modes. PUBG has been dealing with the competition by introducing regular updates, patches and new maps. It recently introduced the Night Mode that allows a user play the game in complete darkness, increasing the difficulty level.

PUBG was released on Xbox One in December 2017 and the PS 4 release is long overdue. The game retails at $30 for the Xbox One at the moment.  PUBG has suffered quite a bit since it’s first console release from certain performance issues. But now, it seems to be much more stable. There are strong hints that the game might drop on PS4 in December 2018 during The Game Awards 2018. Some are also speculating that there may have been a console exclusivity contract with Xbox One which may expire in December. There are also rumours that Tencent Games may announce the game in November itself but release it in December. It will be interesting to see how PUBG maintains it’s daily user base and if the user base increases significantly with the PS4 release.

  • Sony PlayStation 4 Crashing Due to Malicious Messages

Sony PlayStation 4 Crashing Due to Malicious Messages

Sony’s PlayStation 4 is reportedly crashing due to a malicious message, according to several users. These crashes are happening due to a message containing a string of characters and are freezing the PS4. In some cases, the PlayStations are requiring a factory reset due to this issue as well.

The Reddit user, who reported the issue first, said that he was playing Rainbow Six: Siege. His console bricked when a player sent him the message from a dummy account making his system crash. According to him, one user did not have to reset. It did not affect him as his PlayStation messages were set to Private. Sony is yet to respond to this issue. It would be wise forPlayStation 4 users to meanwhile not receive or open these malicious messages. The rise of bots and malicious messages have become a real issue in the phone as well as the console industry. How Sony handles this issue will be interesting to see. Speculations are doing the rounds that this is done by some users to get an edge over others in a game by DDOS-ing other players.

PlayStation 4, which saw it’s launch in 2013-14, is also reportedly receiving an update very soon which allows users to change their details. The PlayStation Network Online ID Preview Program will also start this year. According to the company, the first change will be free, with further changes costing €9.99/£7.99 for those who do not have a PS Plus account. We hope Sony rolls out a permanent fix for the message issue with the update or before that.

According to another Reddit user the following step solves this issue, for now:

Go to Settings > Account Management > Privacy Settings > Enter your password > Personal Info | Messaging, and set Messages to either Friends (if you trust them) or No One.

  • Sony Claims 36 Million PlayStation 4 Owners are Ready for VR

Sony Claims 36 Million PlayStation 4 Owners are Ready for VR

Sony, at its annual Vision Summit 2016, featured conferences targetted at industry professionals from the virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) field. The keynote addresses kicked off the event, with the biggest names of the industry being part of it.

    sony_vr_headset_reveal

Sony’s very own, Dr. Richard Marks, Director of the PlayStation Magic Lab, Sony Computer Entertainment, held a conference on the importance of Sony’s move into the VR market and outlined why developers around the globe should be excited to be working on VR for the PlayStation platform..

In a bid to position the company as the easiest route forward for reaching a massive audience of end users primed for VR technology, Marks said that the PlayStation 4 ecosystem consisted of over 36 installed PS4 systems, and hence would serve as a better launch pad into the VR world as compared to other companies such as Google, Oculus.

Hinting at what is the biggest hurdle for VR tech on PC, he talked about how VR headsets from companies like Oculus and HTC would need additional expensive hardware in the form of a high-end end system, but for developers ready to take the plunge and develop VR tech for Playstation 4, they would have no such bottlenecks to worry about, as he proclaimed that ” every single one of the Playstation 4 consumers is ready for PlayStation VR”

A recent report by Valve’s Steam Hardware survey site states that there are around 5 million systems with VR-capable graphics cards today. Compare that to the already VR capable army of 36 million PlayStation 4s at hand, and you know that Dr. Richard Marks claims are anything but hollow.

  • PlayStation 4 Bookings open up, Shipping in a Week

A couple of days back we reported that the PS4 aka the Playstation 4 will be arriving to India on 14th May, and lo and behold major online retailers have started taking orders for the magical black box.

Sony stores and online retails have started taking bookings for the PS4 which has been in shortage since its launch early this year. The Playstation 4 suffered from the Blue light of death problem which had caused the company to rework their console and hence the lack of supplies.

    ps4 stock

It is said that this new batch of consoles headed for release will be void of that problem and will work without any overheating or chipset issues. Sony is also lining up the console to be available in time for major game releases, so that console sales can see a boost.

There are reports that Sony is also planning to drop the price of the PS4 to around Rs. 34,999 by August, so for those not in a rush a savings of 5000 may be up for grabs later this year.

  • ‘Final Fantasy 15’ And ‘Kingdom Hearts 3’ Announced For Playstation 4

‘Final Fantasy 15’ And ‘Kingdom Hearts 3’ Announced For Playstation 4

We’ve already seen plenty from the Playstation 4’s initial unveil in February, but today we got a closer look at games from all developers, including Indie titles, as well as the actual PS4 hardware. Sony shared a quick look at two titles we’re sure many will be extremely exited to play.

    playstation 4

Sony dropped a bombshell at their E3 2013 press briefing by announcing that Kingdom Hearts III is currently in development for the PlayStation 4. This came directly on the heels of the company’s announcement that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is also coming to Playstation 4, under its new moniker: Final Fantasy XV.

In a wild gameplay trailer that saw lead character Noctis work his way through a crumbling building, fighting masked, sword-wielding soldiers and flying monsters, Square confirmed that it would continue the series on PlayStation 4 as Final Fantasy XV. This was actually the first major gameplay trailer released of the game in some three years, and the first ever officially shown to the public. It’s no surprise that after seven years of reportedly tortured development, the game has become a PlayStation 4 title rather than another game for the aging PlayStation 3.

More surprising, though, was the announcement of Kingdom Hearts 3. It’s also been seven years since the last major Kingdom Hearts game, with the beautifully strange Kingdom Hearts 2 on PlayStation 2. Sony showed only the briefest trailer of a teenage Sora battling Heartless enemies known from the series and ended with the statement that the game is “now in development.” Meaning it’s far from actually coming out any time soon. Still, after nearly five handheld releases in the series, it’s hugely exciting to see Kingdom Hearts 3.

  • Sony Set To Launch The Playstation 4 For $399 “This Holiday Season”

Sony Set To Launch The Playstation 4 For $399 “This Holiday Season”

Sony today announced the PlayStation 4 and the next generation gaming console has been price at $399/€399/£349 (~Rs 23,250/-), $100 cheaper than the Xbox One.

For the £350 asking price you’ll get the Playstation 4 console complete with a 500GB hard drive, built-in Blu-ray drive and the brand new Sony PS4 controller effectively pricing Xbox One’s Kinect sensor at $100.

    playstation 4

The console, according to SCEA president and CEO Jack Tretton, the console will not contain any authentication requirements; no “always online” and no “stopping” if you have not authenticated in 24 hours.

PlayStation Plus carries over PS4 and while you can still play all your single-player games, you will need a Plus membership to play online multiplayer games.

The new console, shown off at the company’s press conference at E3 in Los Angeles looks to be slim and thin, a vast contrast to Microsoft’s large and bulky Xbox One console.

“It is sleek and visually impactful wherever you put it.” Anthony House, head of Sony Computer Entertainment said as he revealed the new console to the packed stadium.

Keeping with the black and blue colour scheme the console will be able to be sat vertically and horizontally on your shelf.

Sony began by talking about its existing hardware: The PlayStation 3 and the handheld PS Vita. However, no hardware refresh was announced for either device.

“Vita is just beginning its life cycle,” Sony Computer Entertainment President and CEO Jack Tretton said, noting that the Vita will be the “ultimate companion device” to the PlayStation 4.

Despite the lack of new hardware, Sony did show off a slew of big-ticket new games that will work on the PS3, including Batman: Arkham Origins and Grand Theft Auto V.

  • Sony’s New Playstation 4 Teaser Reveals Console Appearance

Sony’s New Playstation 4 Teaser Reveals Console Appearance

After the Sony’s Playstation 4 event concluded, questions immediately blew up social media asking what the console actually looks like. We have our first glimpses of the console today, thanks to an officially released teaser by Sony.

    PlayStation 4

The timing of the tease is no surprise, with Microsoft set to reveal its own next-generation Xbox tomorrow at its campus in Redmond, Washington.

Sony will present its E3 event on June 10 at 6 p.m. Pacific time. At that point, we will likely see the PlayStation 4 in the flesh along with some new games and features.

The video, seen below, shows off bits and pieces of the console in quick video cuts. You’re able to see the logo, various ports, and other portions of the device that help you form a general idea of what the Playstation 4 will look like.

Sony will be shipping the PlayStation 4 with an eight-core 64-bit processor based off AMD’s “Jaguar” processor line. Though x86 cores are the brunt of the new console’s might, Sony stated at its event that another low-power core will be bundled in, as well. The additional processor exists not to help with games directly but instead to process tasks in the background.

Sony states that the PlayStation 4 graphics chip, which is derived from existing Radeon technology and integrated into the Jaguar processor die, can push 1.84 TFLOPS. That number puts the power of the GPU roughly on par with a Radeon HD 7850 video card.

Sony has also packed in eight gigabytes of RAM, an absolutely massive increase over the 512MB found in the PlayStation 3. And the RAM is high-speed GDDR5, which will let Sony maximize the system’s data pipe.

  • Sony Launches The PlayStation 4, Yet We Don’t Know What It Looks Like

Sony Launches The PlayStation 4, Yet We Don’t Know What It Looks Like

Sony has officially lifted the lid off the PlayStation 4 during its New York City event today, showing that it wasn’t just gathering journos, developers, and the watching world for the biggest practical joke ever.

The console, which Sony didn’t show once during the 2-hour gathering, should arrive by holiday time 2013. It marks the first major system introduction from the Japan-based company since the PlayStation 3 was launched in 2006.

News.com.au sums up the much hyped PlayStation 4 event perfectly, it was like hosting a gala wedding and not inviting the bride.
Not surprisingly, Microsoft’s Xbox Live programming director Larry Hryb was quick to mock the Sony event. “Announce a console without actually showing a console? That’s one approach,” he tweeted.
However, we do know SOMETHING about the PS4.

With under-the bonnet power considerably in excess of that of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, it will usher in a new breed of games with startlingly lifelike graphics, set in virtual worlds that operate in a much more believable manner than the current crop. But it will not have that ground to itself: Microsoft is applying the finishing touches to a successor for its Xbox 360 which, it is believed, it will unveil at the E3 Show in Los Angeles in June. That, too, is likely to go on sale this Christmas, unleashing a titanic battle for living room supremacy between Sony and Microsoft.

The console owns an eight core, x86-64 AMD Jaguar CPU.

It houses 8GB of GDDR5 unified high-speed memory, and a “highly advanced” PC GPU with “remarkable longterm potential.”

That processor, also made by AMD and referred to as a “next-generation Radeon based graphics engine” in a post-conference press release, boasts 18 compute units that together produce 1.84 teraflops of processing power.

We’ll also see Blu-ray and DVD support in the PS4, along with HDMI, Analog-AV, and optical digital output.

Sony has inserted a secondary chip completely dedicated to uploading and downloading titles, regardless of whether the system is on or off.

Using Gaikai’s technology, a company which they bought in 2012, to provide backwards compatibility gives the PlayStation 4 an economic edge, too: it means that costly backwards-compatibility chips can be dispensed with, making it cheaper to manufacture.

PlayStation Cloud will let gamers stream games from former PlayStation consoles, including the PS1, PS2 and PS3 to their shiny new Sony PS4 over their home broadband connection, using integrated Gaikai tech.

With Gaikai, the lion’s share of the game processing will take place server-side, rather than within the Sony PS4 console itself, but your PS3 disks will not be compatible with the PS4.

    playstation

We’ve also been introduced to the all-new DualShock 4, a touchpad-packing controller especially designed for the new system.

The PS4 DualShock 4 controller features two sticks, four triggers, a directional pad, plus triangle, cross, circle, and square buttons, just like a classic PlayStation controller.

But it also has a touchpad across its face, and a PlayStation Move-like “light bar” across the top. The start and select buttons have been moved to the sides to make room for the touchpad, and the DualShock 4 also features a “share” button next to the triggers and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The touchpad can be used for touch interactions and doubtless other processes that have yet to be revealed or imagined, while the color-changing light bar allows the controller to interact with the PS4’s evolution of the PlayStation Eye, presumably for motion and pointing controls.

The PlayStation controller hasn’t changed much over the years, from the original PS1 DualShock to the PS3’s Sixaxis and DualShock 3 controllers.

The PS4’s DualShock 4 controller is both a huge departure from that formula and more of the same.

No pricing details were revealed at the event, so all we’ve got to go on are various rumours from before the launch – but it might be that Sony has a price point of around $400 in mind for the US release. That translates to around Rs 22,000.

With the PlayStation 4’s incorporation of cloud gaming and power, Sony appears to have launched a convincing first salvo in the impending console showdown with Microsoft. Final pricing, a launch date and the console’s physical design, along with a firm line-up of launch games will surely emerge at the E3 Show in June, along with Microsoft’s rival console. This Christmas could be the most exciting one ever, as far as gamers are concerned.

Sony posted a couple of videos on YouTube for the PS4, check them out below :

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]f a report from market hardware news watch website Digitimes reports that, Sony’s manufacturing partners will begin building the Playstation 4 by the end of this year for a launch schedule of quarter 2 2012. There are no specific details , but most rumors talk about a kinect type motion sensing technology to replace the current generation PS3 Move.

Sony has always held in strong opinion that physical controls are essential for gaming. Dropping that claim would be very convenient for the company and possibly beneficial. Foxconn and Pegatron, the two manufacturing firms charged with assembling Sony’s PlayStation 3, will build the new console according to DigiTimes’ sources. Also mentioned in the report, shipment volume for 2012 is set at 20 million.

With the Wii U and the next Xbox coming next year, if was only expected that the third giant upgrade their flagship console.

Sony PlayStation 5 Benchmark Reveal A 4x Performance Jump Over PS4

Sony revealed a few key details about its next generation of gaming console a few weeks ago. This device assumed to be called the PlayStation 5, will be the successor to the PlayStation 4 launched in the year 2014. The loading times of the upcoming console were shown off a while ago which revealed a ten times improvement over the last generation. Now, a tipster on the microblogging website Twitter has leaked the benchmarks scores of the PlayStation 5 and it is claimed to be four times as much as the PlayStation 4. The tipster notes that the four time improvement will not apply to the latest PlayStation 4 Pro.

    Sony PlayStation 5

According to the tipster on Twitter, the Sony PlayStation 5 has been codenamed, Gonzalo. The upcoming console has scored an impressive score of 20,000 on the 3DMark Fire Strike benchmark. This is four times higher than the roughly 5,000 score of the PlayStation 4. It also corroborates the company’s promise that the latest device will be a big jump in performance and power. The score of the upcoming gaming console are on par with what the NVIDIA GeForce 2070 has scored in the test, if not better. This is supposedly an indication that the PlayStation 5 can finally match up to the gaming performance of gaming PCs.

Sony previously revealed information regarding some features of the upcoming console. For instance, the PlayStation 5 is expected to sport 3D audio technology, which will enable gamers to have immersive gaming experience. Another speculated feature of the PS5 is the incorporation of a Solid State Drive or an SSD. This will lead to visibly faster game load times and seamless switching between various applications within the console’s interface. The device is expected to launch towards the end of next year at an expected price of US$ 550 (~INR 39,000). This is the same time when Microsoft will also announce its latest gaming console, called Xbox Project Scarlet.
