Apple has completed the process of acquiring Shazam, the popular music identification app. The deal closed at $400 million. With the deal, Apple also made the promise to users to make the app ad-free.
Shazam rose to popularity for its ability to identify songs playing in the background. This includes songs that may be playing on your radio, in a bar, or anywhere around you. The app only needs to listen to a fragment of the song. It can then provide you the name of the song, the artist and even the lyrics.

The iPhone X had a lot of changes that iPhone loyalists had been asking for. The beautiful edge-to-edge OLED display and wireless charging are some of the new features introduced. However, due to the reduced size of bezels, Apple had to remove the home button which also housed the iconic Touch ID. Apple replaced that with Face ID, its own version of facial recognition which has been prevalent in Android phones since the time Android 4.0 ICS.
Now, Apple has confirmed that it will just concentrate on Face ID for all its upcoming devices. It has announced a US $390 million investment in Finisar, a facial recognition technology company. Apple announced that it would invest [...]
Last week, it was reported that Apple was on the verge of acquiring of Shazam. On the 11th of December, Apple confirmed the acquisition of the popular music recognition app, Shazam. While neither of the concerned companies disclosed the value of the deal, a report by TechCrunch claims that the deal is worth US $400 million and that Snap and Spotify were potential buyers as well.
Acknowledging the acquisition, Apple said in a statement:
We are thrilled that Shazam and its talented team will be joining Apple. Since the launch of the App Store, Shazam has consistently ranked as one of the most popular apps for iOS. We have exciting plans in store, and we look [...]
A new report claims that Apple is nearing a deal to buy the song identification app, Shazam, which could be on announced on the 13th of December.
One source describes the deal as in the nine figures; another puts it at around £300 million ($401 million). We are still asking around. Notably, though, the numbers we’ve heard are lower than the $1.02 billion (according to PitchBook) post-money valuation the company had in its last funding round, in 2015.
Shazam was founded in 1999 and has long been one of the most popular song identification apps on all platforms. Shazam announced last year that it had reached one billion downloads on smartphones. But, only recently did it [...]
Google has rolled out an update to the Google Assistant which enables the AI assistant to recognise songs. One of the more popular features introduced in the Pixel 2 phones is ‘Now Playing‘, wherein the Pixel2 can recognise songs playing and pull up links to buy or stream them. The catch here is that while Pixel 2 doesn’t use the internet to search for songs, the Google Assistant needs the internet to recognise the song and pull up results.
This feature will come in handy more than you think. If you are always reaching into your pocket and struggling to open Shazam just in time for it to catch the song and show a result, this feature can be [...]
Google launched the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL on the 4th of October at a launch event at the Google HQ. Google talked about the integration of software, hardware and AI in their new range of products. One nifty feature that combines the three is the ‘Now Playing’ feature. When activated, it uses the always listening microphones of the Pixel 2 smartphones to detect a song in the background and display the name and artist of the song on the lock screen. In the notification window, it then displays links to buy or stream the song. The differentiating factor from Shazam here is that the phone doesn’t need to be connected to the internet for this feature to work. The [...]

Siri with her lovely voice introduced the concept of personal assistants (PA) on phones. It was the closest people could get to own their own JARVIS and wasn’t she one snarky lady. Google tried to match up to her, but they could only muster up a personality less voice.
Microsoft is now bringing its answer to Siri and this woman comes directly from the world of Halo. She has been called one of the sexiest women in video game history and GameTrailers put her in the “top 10 babes who are out of your league” list (which for gamers is probably every woman ever.) She was originally based on the Egyptian princess Nerfititi and [...]
