    Delhi Metro to Provide Free Wi-Fi in All Trains and Stations

    DMRC or Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is working on launching free Wi-Fi for all its passengers at all 187 stations and 250 + Km of track on its 222 trains. The service will be free to passengers and will be rolled out by the end of 2016.

    Delhi Metro Network is amongst the largest Metro Networks in the world with ridership touching 3.5 Million in a day. With lines launching in 2016 which will also interconnect existing lines, daily ridership is expected to increase dramatically.

    The current model is set to provide seamless connectivity via the Metro app or a Third party app which will also track your location and tell you wat station you are on or if your stop has arrived.

    Earlier this year DMRC had also announced smart-tags which could be managed using their app to be reloaded and used to access train stations. The DMRC is trying to catch up with the modern world. Hopefully, their execution is as exciting as these launch announcements.

    Shatterproof Motorola X Force Now Available for Rs. 34999

    The Moto X-Force which has a shatter shield display is now available for Rs 34999 after a massive discount of Rs. 15000 has been applied to it. The X-Force which initially launched for Rs. 49999 received huge flack for the pricing and it looks like the company wants to make this device more affordable for the consumer.

    The display on the X-Force is really the key for the handset, made up of multiple layers of clear polycarbonate the display doesn’t really shatter. We ran multiple tests of the handset to try and break the screen and found it surviving all of them. The best part is that the 64 GB variant is available for just Rs. 3000  at Rs 37999

    Apple Recovers US $ 40 Million Gold Thanks To New Recycling

    Apple has run its recycling program for a very long time and users often return their old beat down phones to Apple in efforts to properly dispose of the ruined smartphone. Apple’s latest Environmental Responsibility Report (PDF) shows that it recovered 89 million pounds of materials in its recycling program last year, including $40 million worth of gold.

    Gold is used in many Apple portable components and circuit boards because “it has low electrical resistance and, unlike copper, doesn’t corrode.” This adds to the efficiency of the product and if recycled properly can save the wastage of the precious material.

    Apple has already shown off its interests in Recycling this year, pushing the user to add to helping save the environment and the new Auto Recycling Robot LIAM.

  • Ask iGyaan : What is ppi (pixels per inch) ?

    Ask iGyaan : What is ppi (pixels per inch) ?

    We often get similar questions from multiple users, this new section is to address exactly that, and we begin with the most asked question in recent times.

    User Question :

    Bharat Addresses to “ppi” in his videos, what does this mean? and does it have any relation to the camera resolution?

    iG Answer :

    PPI (pixels per inch), often referred to as pixel density is a measurement of the resolution of display of the device in question. this can also be the density of the images captured by a camera, but in Bharat’s reference it is always in terms of the display of the device in question.

    PPI, is an actual count of the number of pixels found in one inch of a display, which varies depending on the resolution of the display and the overall size of the display.

    Lets clarify further:

                 1. Calculate d_p.

    d_p = \sqrt{w_p^2 + h_p^2}

    2. Calculate PPI:

    PPI = \frac{d_p}{d_i}

    where

    • d_p is diagonal resolution in pixels,
    • w_p is width resolution in pixels,
    • h_p is height resolution in pixels and
    • d_i is diagonal size in inches.

    The HTC One M9+ has a screen resolution of 1440×2560 px

    So,  d_p =  [underoot of = (2073600 + 6553600)] =2937.2 (approx)

    The diagonal size in inches is 5.2 inch, therefore d_p/d_i = 2937.2/5.2 =  564.84

    Therefore the pixels per inch (ppi) of the HTC One M9+ = 565 (rounded)

    Micromax : Nothing like getting arrested?

    Two owners of the popular mobile phone company Micromax mobile have been arrested in a bribery case in New Delhi. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) caught the company bosses amidst a Rs 30 lakh bribe to the engineers of North Delhi Municipal Corporation for clearance to a banquet hall construction. Incidentally the whole scenario has nothing to do with the Micromax Mobile division, but since the owners were involved the company has come into dark waters.

    The CBI on Wednesday arrested Rajesh Agrawal and Manish Tuli, both of Micromax Informatics, the officers also arrested two junior officials of the municipal corporation and carried out a total of 15 searches between MCD offices and Micromax owner residences and has recovered Rs 40 lakh in cash from the premises of one junior engineer  Kapil Dev. Vikas Jain, co-founder and business director of Micromax, declined immediate comment on the matter. The Gurgaon-based company is the 12th largest mobile handset maker in the world, according to its website.

    Micromax had recently launched the Micromax Canvas 4 and is ready to launch two new handsets in the next 45 days according to co-founder Vikas Jain. This will not affect the company’s operations in any form – said another spokesperson.
