IFA : Philips showcases Fidelio X1 Headphones

Audio seems to be the main focus of Philips right now with the Fidelio range at the very peak of what the company has to offer.

Philips has added to its Fidelio premium audio line with the X1 headphones which drip with luxury at every turn. Fusing metal and leather, they give you a classic yet contemporary look. They are as wonderful on the eye as they are on the ear: especially the calf leather finish to the headband.

These are substantial headphones, designed for home listening, and are incredibly comfortable.

Apparently benefiting from use with a large amplifier, these 50mm neodymium driver-canns sit alongside the Fidelio L1 and M1 sets brought out by Philips in the last 12 months.

  • Facebook to crackdown on fake, automated “Likes”

Facebook to crackdown on fake, automated “Likes”

Facebook Inc is weeding out fake “Likes” on its social network that are being caused by spammers, malware and black marketeers as it strives to maintain credibility as an advertising platform.

Facebook said the number of Likes, or endorsements by users, on corporate pages is likely to drop by less than 1 percent, on average, after the crackdown.
“Newly improved automated efforts will remove those Likes gained by malware, compromised accounts, deceived users, or purchased bulk Likes,”

“While we have always had dedicated protections against each of these threats on Facebook, these improved systems have been specifically configured to identify and take action against suspicious Likes,”  Facebook said in a post on its official blog on Friday.
Thanks to a growing black market, companies can instantly raise their profile on Facebook by purchasing thousands of Likes at a time – a practice that is forbidden by the No. 1 social network, which has 955 million users.

Many of these Likes come from bogus Facebook user accounts rather than genuine users of the social network.

Meanwhile, various spam-like programs on Facebook deceive users into unwittingly liking something when they perform another action, such as clicking to watch a video.

Facebook said the cleanup will benefit both users and companies that maintain pages on the network, by giving a more accurate measurement of fan count and demographics.

Ensuring the integrity of Likes is serious business for Facebook, which depends on advertising revenue from large brands and other businesses. Many of the ad campaigns that companies conduct on Facebook are designed to garner Likes – a sign that their marketing message has resonated with consumers.

“It’s their currency,” said Jeremiah Owyang, a partner at research firm Altimeter Group. “Facebook is playing the Federal Reserve, to take the counterfeit currency off the market to ensure that there’s quality in the marketplace.”

The problem is not unique to Facebook, say analysts, who note that Twitter and Google Inc also grapple with fake accounts, spam and other techniques to game the service.

  • Apple win over Samsung won’t affect parts deal

Apple win over Samsung won’t affect parts deal

While Samsung Electronics is reeling from a patent pounding by its smartphone rival Apple Inc, this is unlikely to damage the other part of their relationship – where Samsung is the sole supplier of Apple-designed chips that power the iPhone and iPad.

At an emergency meeting in Seoul early on Sunday following the damning U.S. legal defeat, the South Korean group’s post mortem was led by vice chairman Choi Gee-sung and the head of the mobile business JK Shin, rather than by CEO Kwon Oh-hyun, whose primary role is in charge of the components business.

The reason that Kwon was reportedly not present, even though he is the CEO of Samsung, is because the company has a “strict internal firewall” between its component supply business and handset operations, according to Reuters.

Citing an unnamed executive who took part in Sunday’s meeting in Seoul, it was said that Samsung considers its supply contract with Apple a “separate issue from the litigation,” in which Samsung was found to have copied features of Apple’s iPhone and iPad..

While Apple and Samsung are fierce competitors in the businesses of smartphones, tablets, computers and more, Samsung is also Apple’s largest supplier of components and parts for its popular devices. Most notably, Samsung is responsible for building the custom processors featured in Apple’s iOS devices, including the iPhone and iPad.
