  • HTC changing its geometry with the new Vertex Tablet!

HTC changing its geometry with the new Vertex Tablet!

    Whoops! Something went wrong!

We have a new report that sheds more light on this HTC product. Apparently HTC has forgotten all about its past in the tablet market and is planning the HTC Vertex HD, a tablet that has already shown up in benchmark tests.

According to Slashgear, the new tablet will sport a 10.1-inch display with 1280 x 800 resolution, 1.3GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, a 2-megapixel rear-facing camera and a front-facing 1.3-megapixel shooter, Bluetooth 4.0 and Beats Audio support. The device is running Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich right now, although that may change by the time it hits stores.

Speaking about availability details, we don’t have any launch dates or pricing for this new Android device, so we’ll have to wait for HTC and its carrier partners to officially unveil it, or leak more details about it. What’s clear so far is that the device doesn’t appear to be necessarily an iPad contender, but it’s neither an affordable 7-inch device meant to take on the Google Nexus 7.

Could the Vertex be a budget 10-inch tablet? Anyone interested in a new HTC tablet?

  • Google Maps adds walking directions for 44 African nations

Google Maps adds walking directions for 44 African nations

Google has just announced an update for its popular Maps service, extending support for walking directions to 44 African countries. Following the mandatory safety warnings that come with the beta tag (routes may be missing pedestrian crossings etc.), Google is encouraging residents to try out the service, available today on both web and mobile. A separate update will no doubt be appreciated by cyclists in Europe and Australia.

As the African continent develops, there should be no shortage of users for the mobile version of the service. Telecoms & Media reported last year that Africa is now the second most connected region in the world in terms of its mobile subscription count. There are currently more than 500 million mobile users on the continent, and by 2015, there are expected to be 265 million mobile broadband subscriptions in Africa, a significant increase from the current estimate of 12 million.

Support for cycling directions has also been improved. Previously only available in the US and Canada, the service has now been extended to both Australia and Europe, just in time for the yearly post-Tour de France cycling enthusiasm. Routes devised for biking are designed to make use of dedicated bike lanes and avoid significant hills whenever possible.

Galaxy S3 Explosion was a fake! Samsung Calls Foul Play, Owner Admits !

After the whole Galaxy S3 explosion story went all over the world, Samsung went ahead and investigated the issue, it turns out the explosion was actually a way for the owner to get a replacement. After Samsung and a Third Party investigation was concluded it appears that the explosion occurred as a result of “external energy” being applied to the device, not anything from within the phone itself. The original poster dillo2k10 has posted an update on Boards.ie, indicating it was a mistake by someone else in an attempt to recover the phone after it got wet.

Fire Investigations UK  reports on finding that the phone itself was not responsible for generating the heat that caused the damage. So now owner and potential buyers can breathe easy.

  • Xperia P has the ‘Brightest Smartphone Display’

Xperia P has the ‘Brightest Smartphone Display’

    Whoops! Something went wrong!

Test Factory after a  Test of 12 smartphones conducted in independent certified laboratory conditions in May 2012 has adjudged the Sony Xperia P to have the brightest display.

All environmental influences were minimised, each smartphone’s display set to maximum; with automatic functions turned off, and then a spectrometer was used to evaluate the brightness of each display.

This is due to Sony’s WhiteMagic, a technology that makes its smartphone debut with Xperia P. On a normal LCD display the color of each pixel (including white) is produced by mixing three subpixels: red, blue and green. But, Xperia P’s 4” Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine has a fourth white subpixel. This makes it possible to significantly brighten the display to guarantee a clear and sharp picture, even in dazzling sunshine.

Amazon may be planning a Smartphone

If popular media company “Bloomberg” is to be believed Amazon is planning a smartphone to be launched this year. Amazon is apparently already in pursuit of wireless patents and a production agreement with major OEM Foxconn for manufacturing the said Smartphone.

No further details on the matter are available, although Amazon is very capable of delivering a smartphone to the market, with their ecosystem already in place, the App Store, the Cloud services, the Music streaming and Kindle. The only thing you can be sure of is, that if Amazon does make a Smartphone there is almost a 100% chance that it will be an Android ICS 4.0 or Jelly Bean 4.1 device and it is likely to be skinned by Amazon to match the Kindle Fire UI.

Nexus 7 infringes our patents : Nokia

Whoops! Something went wrong!Google’s Nexus 7 is fast, slick, and cheap, but Nokia claims it also infringes some of its patents in the process.

Nokia has announced that the tablet infringes a number of its patents connected with the IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi standard. In fact, most mobile device manufacturers license the patents from Nokia; currently, neither Google nor Asus is on the list of licensees.

A Nokia spokesperson told The Inquirer that “companies who are not yet licensed under our standard essential patents should simply approach us and sign up for a license.” Hence, Google and Asus can almost certainly approach them to get their paperwork in order—if they think they need to.

Asus replied by saying “at the moment, Asus will not be providing any response/comment related.”
