Leaked Images Reveal Details of Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 2 Pro

Xiaomi is reportedly working on a ‘Pro’ version of its recently release Redmi Note 2. A few days ago some leaked images of the upcoming device revealed a sleek, all-metal body as well as a fingerprint scanner. A new leaked image straight from China shows a clearer view of the metal back.

    Redmi Note 2

As rightly suggested, the Redmi Note Pro will have a metal body and it will be the first Xiaomi device to feature a fingerprint scanner. The sensor will be just below the the camera and LED flash on the back. You will also notice a speaker at the bottom while the power and volume buttons will be on the right side.

In terms of hardware specs, this model is expected to come with the same specs as seen in the Redmi Note 2. The Redmi Note 2 Pro will likely sport a 5.5-inch touchscreen, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 chipset, and at least 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage with a 3,060mAh battery. On the camera front, the device will likely feature a 13 MP primary camera and a 5 MP front.

    Redmi Note 2 01

With an all-metal design, the Redmi Note 2 Pro can be expected with a price slightly higher than the Note 2, but still in the budget friendly zone nevertheless. The Redmi Note 2 has proved exceptionally successful in China due to its $150 price tag, making it one of the bestselling smartphones in the market currently.

Nothing is official as of yet so the leaks and rumours should not be considered the final word on the Xiaomi device Watch this space for more Note 2 Pro updates.

  • Xiaomi to Host a 3-Day Sale for the Diwali Season

Xiaomi to Host a 3-Day Sale for the Diwali Season

With the festive season just around the corner, and companies all over are offering all sorts of Diwali offers, Xiaomi too has taken to social media to tease a sale. The company put up Twitter updates on its Indian handle which read as follows:

The hashtags and the numbers all hint at a Diwali sale between 3rd to 5th November. The sale could include discounts and attractive offers across e-commerce websites like Amazon and Flipkart as well as on mi.com itself. Discounts and free gifts were already available on Xiaomi devices, along with exchange offers, last month.

The company has been hinting at sales and exciting offers for two days now. It is only natural for us to speculate about these social media updates. Diwali this year might indeed turn out to be brighter than always.

  • Samsung and Xiaomi to Incorporate 3D Touch-like Technology in Future Devices

Samsung and Xiaomi to Incorporate 3D Touch-like Technology in Future Devices

3D Touch is the new cool thing in town and everyone wants to have a piece of it. It is indeed true that the touch-sensitive feature has opened up new possibilties in the way your phones works for you. It is also a feature many gaming companies are excited to ‘tap into’. We had earlier reported that Samsung was in talks with Synaptics to bring the 3D Touch feature seen in Apple’s iPhone 6s series into its 2016 flagship Galaxy S7. Samsung plans on calling it ClearForce.

Now, fresh rumours suggest that Samsung is not the only brand looking to incorporate the pressure sensitive feature into its phones. Reports emerging from China tell us that Xiaomi too is interested in having this technology for its future flagship devices. This could be one of the reasons the expected Mi5 announcement has been delayed.

    iPhone 6s 12

G for Games cited Weibo that said that Xiaomi is working on a 3D Touch-like feature for its upcoming devices. Whether Xiaomi is going solo on this project or is seeking help from Synaptics (as it did with the Mi 4c, which uses Synaptics’ ClearPad S3708 capacitive touch controller) is not yet known. Meanwhile, Synaptic claims that its ClearForce technology will be superior to 3D Touch feature.

ClearForce – What We Know So Far

For those unaware, 3D Touch enables the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus to understand three distinct levels of pressure. This, then, enables new gestures such as Peek and Pop that lets you quickly see inside an app without actually having to open it. Users need to press the screen lightly to get a ‘Peek’ at a photo, email, web page or other content, and if pressed a little deeper, they can ‘Pop’ into the content itself.

    iphone 6s plus 3

ClearForce, on the other hand, is planning to take the feature up a notch. From what we know so far, the ClearForce technology, besides the expected 3D Touch functions, will have the ability to understand the difference between speed scrolling, zoom, gaming, texting and even operate photo editing tools by noting subtle variable pressure on the surface. Some of the new features, according to Synaptics, are as follows:

    • Variable speed scrolling
    • Picture zoom and panning
    • Function preview and selection
    • Continuously variable gaming control functions
    • Unlock and wake up
    • Right-side mouse click behavior (open contextual menus)
    • Line thickness control while drawing (e.g., when writing Chinese characters and creating artwork)
    • Image editing (brightness, contrast, saturation)
    • Upper case and symbol selection (to bypass keyboard mode changes)

    ClearForce

The rumoured tie-up between Xiaomi and Synaptics is not yet confirmed and we will have to wait and see for more information on that. Synaptics has also mentioned that it plans to work with other OEMs as well. So we could see brands other than Samsung and Xiaomi making use of ClearForce in the months to come.

  • Huawei Replaces Xiaomi as China’s No. 1 Smartphone Manufacturer

Huawei Replaces Xiaomi as China’s No. 1 Smartphone Manufacturer

Research firm Canalys reports that Huawei has replaced Xiaomi as the number one manufacturer of smartphones in China, a first for Huawei to have topped the ranking. While Xiaomi’s sales declined, Huawei’s increased by an 81% over the last one year. Though Canalys didn’t share the exact details, the firm says other details will be made available by the end of this month.Xiaomi-Mi-Note-Natural-Bamboo-Edition-2

Both Xiaomi and Huawei have been warmly welcomed in the country as well, providing smartphones with impressive specs and price-tags friendly with the average Indian pocket. Huawei however has been more in news lately primarily because of one of the two latest Google Nexus smartphones. Nexus 6P is the device which is made by Huawei and has provided a high-end gadget to the smartphone industry.

    Huawei Nexus 6P
    Huawei Nexus 6P

Xiaomi on the other hand grabbed the limelight with its Mi 4c, which has similar specs as the other Nexus device launched recently, Nexus 5X, but at half the price. You can find the entire comparison here. While the two tech giants fight it out in the world, tell us your preference in the comments below.

  • Xiaomi’s Mi 4c Offers Similar Specs as the Nexus 5X, but at Half the Price

Xiaomi’s Mi 4c Offers Similar Specs as the Nexus 5X, but at Half the Price

Yesterday saw the official launch of Google’s Nexus 5X with pre-orders having already begun on Amazon. By now you must be aware of what the Nexus 5X has to offer and the price of the phone as well. Just to refresh your memory, the Nexus 5X will come at a price of Rs. 31,990 for the 16 GB variant and Rs. 35, 990 for the 32GB variant in India.

    LG Nexus 5X 4

From what the phone offers in terms of specs, the price is a bit steep, especially when you compare it with the China-only Xiaomi Mi 4c, The Mi 4c comes very close to the Nexus 5X, at least specs-wise. The Mi 4c has a 5-inch display and is powered by a 1.8 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 64-bit processor, 2 GB RAM and USB Type-C port, all similar to the Nexus 5X.

    Mi 4c

On the camera front, the Mi 4c has a 13 MP primary camera and a 5 MP front, whereas the Nexus 5X features a 12.3 MP primary camera and a 5 MP front. On paper, the Mi 4c seems to have a better camera, however, the Nexus 5X has 1.55 micron pixels that allows for sharper images that can take on the iPhone 6 camera.

    LG Nexus 5X 10

Xiaomi’s Mi 4c has a bigger battery at 3,080mAh when compared to the Nexus 5X’s 2,700 mAh battery. In terms of performance, you’ll find both the devices at par, giving a smooth and fast handling.

Keeping these specs in mind, we come to the prices. If the Mi 4c launched in India, the price of the device would have been around Rs 13,500 for 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage, and around Rs 15,500 for 3GB RAM and 32GB internal. In comparison, the Nexus 5X starts at Rs. 31,990 for the 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal. Clearly, the Mi 4c offers almost the same specs but at half the price.

  • Xiaomi India Launches PickMi Doorstep Service

Xiaomi India Launches PickMi Doorstep Service

Chinese mobile companies like Xiaomi have established a popular base in India and are doing really well. In fact, they seem to be doing better than most other established OEMs. One of the most important point of interest for electronic consumers is the after sale service. Knowing that there are plenty of service centres around for your device, among other things, is what drive customers towards that brand. So it’s even better when these brands come to your doorstep, take your phone, service it, and return it back to you at your doorstep.Mi5

This is exactly what Xiaomi India is now providing. The company launched the PickMi service in India. It is a doorstep pick up and drop service for all Mi products at Rs. 189. According to a Facebook post, Xiaomi announced, “PickMi service across India! We bring our service to your doorstep. Call us on 1800-103-6286 and avail our pick up and drop service for all Mi products for just Rs. 189.”

    Xiaomi India

Xiaomi has been busy expanding its services across India. The company has been tweeting and posting updates on Facebook about new service centers being introduced. Last week, Xiaomi opened two exclusive service centres in Rohini and Daryaganj, New Delhi. And just yesterday the company tweeted the launch of a centre in Ambala, Punjab.

Miezu is also getting into the doorstep service game. The company plans on providing the service once it launches around 40 customer care centres across 20 Indian cities.

The focus on customer service by these Chinese brands is providing the right push and the right image for them. Xiaomi is already off to a good start and must now keep up the pace and deliver the goods, quite literally.

  • Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Could Release Next Month

Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Could Release Next Month

Xiaomi Mi Note 2, the successor to Xiaomi Mi Note Pro, is expected to arrive next month. The tentative date for the release is 5th November. Since Note Pro never made it to Indian markets, we can only hope for Mi Note 2 to release here. Xiaomi-Mi-Note-Natural-Bamboo-Edition-2

If sources are to be believed, the phablet is expected to have top drawer specs which include a 5.7 inch display with 1440 x 2560 resolution. A 4 GB RAM accompanies a 32 GB internal memory, along with 16 MP camera and pre-installed Android 6.0. However, since November 5th is too early for a Snapdragon 820 chipset, if Xiaomi goes ahead with the launch, 2016 would perhaps bring with it another version of Mi Note 2 with an updated chipset.

  • Xiaomi Under Investigation For Allegedly Misleading Potential Buyers

Xiaomi Under Investigation For Allegedly Misleading Potential Buyers

New reports have suggested, that Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi Corp is under investigation for allegedly violating China’s new advertisement law. This new law, that became effective from the 1st of September, 2015, states that the use of superlative adjectives in promoting products would be banned.

    Xiaomi-Logo

Investigation of the matter is being made on suspicion of the usage of phrases such as “the best” to describe their product. Zhu Dalin, an analyst at the Beijing based Internet Consultancy Analyses told the Economic Times :

“The new law will have a certain impact on Internet companies, but not too much-after all, consumers are so accustomed to cliches such as ‘the super phone’ and ‘the omnipotent TV’ that these phrases make no real sense to them now.”

Allegedly, Xiaomi has also been in a similar situation earlier, when it had launched the Red Mi Note 2, where it showed the device to be equipped with panels from Japanese electronics giant Sharp Corp and the Taiwan manufacturer AU Optronics Corp. Soon, after buying the product, consumers found that the screens were actually produced from a  Microelectronics Co Ltd based in Guangdong province.

This kind of an allegation is probably going to cost the manufacturer its reputation. However, no official reports have been made by the company so far.

  • Xiaomi Mi 5 To Be Launched by December With Snapdragon 820

Xiaomi Mi 5 To Be Launched by December With Snapdragon 820

After the success of Xiaomi Mi 4 earlier this year, it can be easily assumed that the company’s Mi 5 will also go the Snapdragon way when it comes to the chipset. Electronic industry analysts like Pan Jiutang had earlier predicted March, 2016 as the release date for Mi 5. However, he has changed his views to December this year, provided Qualcomm manages to supply its chipset in time. Xiaomi Mi 4

The newest Xiaomi addition to the smartphone industry is expected to have a display of 5.2 inches along with a 1080 x 1920 resolution. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC is most likely to accompany a Kryo CPU core and a GPU of Adreno 530. The front camera will be of 8 MP and the main camera is expected to be of 16 MP. All of these along with a 4 GB RAM, a Type-C USB port and Android 5.1.1 are likely to be part of the package.

  • Xiaomi is Officially Working on its First Laptop

Xiaomi is moving onto bigger things. The Chinese company is now working on its first laptop, according to reports. Since the company’s inception in 2010, Xiaomi has grown rapidly to become the fourth biggest smartphone maker in the world. The company is looking to create the same magic in the laptop game. The notebook is being manufactured by Inventec.

Xiaomi has made an impact in the smartphone market by selling near-premium phones at budget prices. But whether the company will use the same formula for its first laptop is a different story. “I am not sure if the smartphone approach will be applicable to notebooks, but I expect Xiaomi’s entry into the notebook industry to bring something new to the market,” said Inventec chairman, Richard Lee.

Leaked images of Xiaomi’s laptop were moving around as far back as December 2014, and it showed a very Macbook Air-ish design.

The leaked pictures of this laptop uncannily resemble the Macbook Air. Who knows it may even be called the Xiaomi Air when released.
The leaked pictures of this laptop uncannily resemble the Macbook Air.

Lee also stated that Xiaomi’s first laptops will start shipping in the first two quarters of 2016. “I am upbeat about the business outlook for Xiaomi’s notebook computers, as the firm has more than 200 million registered smartphone users,” Lee said.

The company recently launched the China-only Mi 4c smartphone and introduced the Mi Mobile service in China with which the company is looking to compete against other Chinese-based carriers.

Though the news of Xiaomi’s new notebook was made official on Wednesday, rumors of it have been circulating much before. Bloomberg reported earlier this month that Xiaomi’s first laptop is likely to be in the range of Apple’s Macbook Air, thereby stating who the Chinese company is planning to compete with. We will have to wait till next year to confirm the authenticity of those images.

Xiaomi Mi 4c Will Not Launch In India

Xiaomi unveiled its Mi 4c yesterday at Rs.13,500 and after studying its specs we soon realised that it was a whole lot like the OnePlus 2 and could be Xiaomi’s unofficial response to its competition. However, unlike most Chinese vendor smartphones that eventually get released in India a little later, Xiaomi’s India rep confirmed to iGyaan that this phone will not get released in India. Despite that, let us have a look at its features since it’s OnePlus’ new competitor.
