  • NOW : Airbags in cellphones

    NOW : Airbags in cellphones

Amazon CEO has applied for a patent that is quite a shocker, or shock preventer. The latest patent may seem ridiculous at first, but if implemented may actually turn out to be a great idea.

The patent calls for a sensor and airbags built within the mobile device. The sensor will sense the falling motion of the device and deploy airbags before it hits the ground.  There is also the inclusion of springs and air streams to orient the device along the airbag.

A technology like this seems practically impossible, but also did a touch screen phone that does everything a phone does today.

Amazon has bought several domains related to the Kindle, including KindleAir.com, Kindlesocialnetwork.com and Kindlesocianetworking.com. The Kindle Air could be the next version of the Amazon kindle, possibly the one with a color E-ink display.

The name is pretty evident of the fact that the company is going the Apple way, and may announce a Thinner and Lighter Kindle possibly unibody construction.

Apple Planning to buy HULU – Bring it to the World

Looks like Apple is in talks to buy HULU, according to a report by Bloomberg.  In June, Hulu announced that it had hired Morgan Stanley and Guggenheim Partners to assist with a the sale of the company earlier reports stated that Yahoo! was interested in making a bid at that time.

Currently Hulu is available only in select countries. Should Apple buy it, we can expect a massive video service offering from Apple , that would easily take on the likes of Netflix, even make it available in less fortunate countries, like ours. (redundant sarcasm)

  • The Kindle – Your New Text Book

The Kindle – Your New Text Book

When we were in school and college, we often forgot our textbooks at home or in the hostel and we sat through class with no clue of what was going on. Enter the Kindle. Amazon has launched a new service called Textbook Rental, which lets you store all your textbooks and notes in the cloud.

Amazon’s new service, which was announced today, allows students to rent their textbooks for as much as 80% off the listed price. They can rent the textbooks for a month, a year or any duration in between with additional days being charged on a per-day basis. Not only will this service allow students to make killer savings, but it will also reduce the amount of stuff they need to carry to school.

This service, along with the Kindle app which is available on all major platforms including iOS, Android, Windows Phone 7 and Blackberry, will allow students to read their textbooks and jotted notes on virtually any device. The kids today get all the cool stuff.

  • Foxconn to Make Amazon Tablet

    Foxconn to Make Amazon Tablet

Apple’s largest manufacturer of their devices like The iPhone and The iPad – Foxconn (they also the worlds largest contract manufacturer of electronics) will now produce the Android gutted tablet from the stables of Amazon. A report released yesterday claims that a 10.1 inch display is in the manufactory, and Quanta Computer, another contract manufacturer from Asia, is already shipping a 7 inch device to Amazon.

Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) has reportedly landed orders for 10.1-inch tablet PCs from Amazon with shipments to begin in 2012, while Quanta Computer has begun shipping a 7-inch model to Amazon. Foxconn declined to comment on market speculation.

The smaller version dubbed “coyote”  packs a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra processor and will be available in Aug-Sept timeframe. While the larger 10 inch version will ship later this year and is dubbed ” Hollywood”, has a quad-core Kal-El chip.

Foxconn already manufacturers the Kindle for Amazon, about 12 million a year, compare that to the 40 Million iPad for Apple this year and it seems like even Foxconn has a lot to loose if they loose Apple as a client.

Looks like Apple lost on securing their manufacturer by signing an exclusive deal of tablet manufacture with them. It is highly unlikely of Apple to allow such a thing to happen, hopefully no high level exec gets fired from cupertino – because he didn’t read his memo!

  • Apple sues Amazon over App Store trademark infringement

Apple sues Amazon over App Store trademark infringement

Apple was already in Battle with Microsoft for their “APP Store” Trademark infringement. Now Amazon is releasing its APP Store for the Android OS platform. But, Amazon’s Android Appstore seems to have been intentionally contracted to a single word to differentiate its name. Apple claims it reached out to Amazon on three separate occasions asking it to rename its software download offering, but when faced with the lack of a “substantive response,” it decided to take things to court.

“We have a long-standing practice of not commenting on pending litigation,” Mary Osako, a spokeswoman for Seattle-based Amazon, said late yesterday.

Apple said in the court filing that it contacted Amazon three times to demand that it cease using the name and that Amazon hadn’t “provided a substantive response.”

“We’ve asked Amazon not to copy the App Store name because it will confuse and mislead customers,” said Kristin Huguet, a spokeswoman for Apple.
