Garmin Forerunner 245 & 245 Music Smart Watches Launched In India
The United States based Garmin has introduced the latest smartwatches under its Forerunner lineup in India. The wearables carry the Forerunner 245 and Forerunner 245 Music and they were originally launched in the US in the month of May. Both devices are targeted towards runners and cyclists who wish to keep track of their workout stats. Besides, the newly launched devices also offer support for strength training, yoga, elliptical and tracking sleep cycles. The key difference between the two devices is that the Forerunner Music 245 can locally store upto 500 music tracks.

Forerunner 245 & 245 Music Design and Features

Both the Forerunner 245 and Forerunner 245 Music have an identical look with a circular form factor and a wide polymer strap. The smartwatches measure 42.3 x 42.3 x 12.2 mm and can fit wrists with a circumference of 127-204 mm. They feature a circular colour display that measures 30.4 mm or 1.2 inch. The touchscreen display has a resolution of 240 x 240 px.

The Forerunner 245 and Forerunner 245 Music duo of smartwatches weighs in at 38.5 grams. In terms of battery life, Garmin claims the two devices can provide a battery backup of upto 7 days on smartwatch mode, upto 6 hours on GPS mode with music and upto 24 hours on GPS mode without music. Both devices are also water resistant and a rated to 5 ATM of pressure.

The Forerunner 245 and Forerunner 245 Music duo of smartwatches include a whole host of sensors including GPS, GLONASS, Compass and an Accelerometer. Connectivity options on the two devices include Bluetooth, ANT+ and Wi-Fi. Safety and tracking features on the smartwatch duo include incident detection during select activities like fall detection.

The two smartwatches from Garmin also support traditional activity tracking features including a step counter, calories burned, distance travelled, stress tracking and body battery energy monitor.

Remember Garmin’s Vivosmart that made a debut in September last year? It was one stylish accessory that had the qualities of an activity tracker and the smartness of a watch. The very fitness tracker is now coming to the e-commerce website Snapdeal next month.

The news has reached us from a reliable source, who confirms that Vivosmart is coming to India via Snapdeal. There is no information how much will it cost, but may be priced somewhere close to Rs. 15,000. The company has tapped into the tech enthusiasts together with the sporty audience who want a single, classy gizmo for a smartwatch, as well as a fitness band.

Recalling the features of Vivosmart, it’s the ultra-thin, rubberized tracking band that sits comfortably on your wrist. It sports an OLED display, which is completely invisible when not in use. But one can read the content when it’s on. It measures almost steps taken, number of steps remaining to reach the goal, distance covered, calories burnt, total inactive time in a day and a lot more. Besides displaying the date and time, the band allows you to control your iPhone music.

The Vivosmart ventures into the smartwatch territory with the vibration feature. The band alerts the user about the incoming calls, texts, calendar reminders, and emails by vibrating. The wristband connects to your phone through Bluetooth and throws all the notifications on the display of Vivosmart along with a short vibration. The Vivosmart is compatible with Android and iOS devices. Also, the tracker is resistant to water up to 164 feet.

IFA 2014 : Garmin’s Fitness Tracker Vivosmart Comes With Smartwatch Capabilities

Fitness trackers have created their own niche market in the tech industry. While they are small, easy to manage and minimalistic than most smartwatches, they are also seem restricted to certain features.

At the ongoing IFA 2014, Garmin, popular in-car navigation systems maker, has introduced a new wearable device that combines the communication features of a smartwatch with the fitness-centric capabilities of an activity tracker. The Vivosmart does what typical activity trackers do best, along with which it borrows some of the key features typically found in smartwatches.

Unlike its predecessor, Vivofit, Vivosmart can also receive notifications from your smartphone for everything from social media updates to emails and text messages, all displayed on the device’s horizontal screen. You can also use the Vivosmart to control your smartphone’s music player.

Vivosmart has a hidden OLED display which light ups with a double tap. A finger swipe on the display rotates through various customizable display pages, like the fitness-focused ones. The Vivosmart is waterproof up to about 50 meters and is fueled to get up to 7 days of battery life.

It also tracks your sleep, based on movement, and offers daily reports on how much time you spent moving vs being still. In fact, through the Garmin Connect app, all your activity data gets translated into easier-to-understand charts and graphs.

None of the fitness trackers from the likes of Jawbone or Fitbit, two of the biggest names in fitness bands, can do this, giving the Vivosmart a huge advantage over its rivals. The Vivosmart goes on sale in mid-September exclusively at Best Buy for $169 or $199, it is already up for pre-order.

Garmin Launched its Fitness Tracker ‘vivofit’ on Flipkart for Rs. 9990

Garmin, satellite navigation provider, just announced a new fitness tracker called vivofit. The plastic tracker is set on a rubber wristband that will be exclusively available on Flipkart in black and slate colour options.

The fitness tracker’s design seems inspired by the Nike+FuelBand. It comes equipped with all the basic features needed to track ones activities – a step counter, distance travel meter, calories burnt, sleep tracker, basic clock, date and time, and is capable of syncing with Garmin’s Heart rate monitor.

“Garmin has been providing fitness monitoring devices for over a decade, and with vívofit we say hello to the fitness band that knows your potential,” said Tony An, Sales and Marketing Director, Garmin Corporation, “Being able to monitor the quality of rest after retiring for the night, being challenged by personalized daily goals and doing so without having to charge it every few days, makes vívofit a fitness band that should be on everyone’s wrist.”

The Garmin vivofit keeps an eye on everything from your sleep patterns and steps to calories burned and distance traveled. It’s water resistant and durable, and syncs with your smartphone.

But where vivofit really sets itself apart, is its ability to let you completely forget about charging it. This fitness band can keep chugging for a full year before you even have to think about swapping out its power supply.

To sync this data to your mobile phone you need to download the Garmin Connect application from the App store for Apple devices and Play Store for Android devices and connect with Bluetooth. This tracker along with smartphone sync, can also be synced to any computer using the ANT+ dongle, which is included in the box and Garmin express software, syncing it to Garmin Connect.
