  • Android 4.4 KitKat has a All New Photo Editor

Android 4.4 KitKat has a All New Photo Editor

Everyone has an idea of what the new Android OS 4.4 KitKat will bring to its users, Google launched the new OS along with the launch of the Nexus 5.

What we are talking about here is the feature that has not been noticed lately, as the Android 4.4 will include a new photo editor. The company’s Nicolas Roard shows, users can now apply effects, filters and adjustments at very precise levels, down to specific color channels and regions. Users can create presets, and every change made can be reversed. As demonstrated in the video it takes just a couple of taps to revert to the original image.

  • Upcoming Nexus 5 Poses In Latest Leak

Upcoming Nexus 5 Poses In Latest Leak

The Nexus 5 release date should be sometime next month as pictures of the device hit the internet this week.

The photos were taken by a MacRumors user who happened to encounter the device while out and about. He released a brief report detailing his experience with the Nexus 5.

“Got to handle the Nexus 5,” he said. “It is smaller than the G2. Didn’t actually measure it, but holding it in the hand it is smaller. It does feel good holding it. The black back cover feels like my Nexus 7. The screen was ok, didn’t wow me like the Note 3. The bezel is very small.”

This is another solid and somewhat clear view of the back plate, albeit partially obstructed by another device at the bottom (likely to cover up any identifying information), that shows off the vertical “Nexus” logo and large camera pod in the top left corner. The back seems to be of a similar material as what we’ve seen before, but giving the lighting we can’t be sure.

The device that appears in the new pictures closely resembles the handset seen in the Android 4.4, KitKat software unveiling photos. This enhances the possibility of the Nexus 5 sporting this same design seen in both pictures when it launches later this year.

Documents at the FCC confirmed a few specs: display of 4.96-inches, 2,300mAh battery, 2GB of RAM, 16-32GB of internal storage, LTE connectivity, 13MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing camera.

Blue HTC One Spotted, Early Android 4.3 Build For The Device Leaks

A blue version of the HTC One is coming, and what was previously only a render is now a fully-fledged leaked device.

A version of the device in a sea-coloured hue was spotted on a subway train in China, and was uploaded to Mobile01, a smartphone-related forum. This confirms the previous leak by evleaks and a leaked casing of the handset in the same colour.

HTC must be planning its HTC One follow-up already, as the device was announced in February and released in April. Rumours of a One Max persist, with an announcement slated for early next month.

At present, the HTC One has been released with 3 colour variants, Silver, Black and Red.

An early build of Android 4.3 has leaked to XDA, and one developer, LlabTooFeR, has already released a custom ROM with the build as a base. Build 3.09.401.1 still uses Sense 5.0, but has a number of minor improvements, including Bluetooth LE support, improved animations throughout the OS, the ability to use your own music for video highlights and, unfortunately, a task manager added to the app drawer.

HTC One Mini Specs Leaked Along With New Image

Photos of the HTC One Mini popped up just last week. Now there’s a new image to go along with some hardware specifications for HTC’s upcoming 4.3-inch phone.

Bloomberg is confirming what we already knew. According to “two people familiar with the matter,” HTC will release a smaller version of their popular HTC One flagship phone. The report indicates that the One mini will have a 4.3-inch display and “will probably have a less-powerful Qualcomm Inc. processor and lower-resolution screen than the flagship.”

When the images of the HTC One mini leaked online a couple weeks ago the resolution was confirmed to be 720p with a dual-core processor, 16GB internal storage, 2GB of RAM and the trademarked 4MP UltraPixel camera. No insight into what version of Android, probably 4.2 Jelly Bean. Bloomberg’s sources, “who asked not to be identified because details aren’t public,” stated the smaller version of the flagship One “will go on sale by August.” The price is expected to be around $550 (€400).

The HTC One Mini will go head-to-head with Samsung’s Galaxy S4 mini.

  • Yet another iPhone 5 image leaked

Yet another iPhone 5 image leaked

KitGuru has leaked what it claims is a “test sample” with the glass front panel roughly intact. We’ve seen the darker steel sides, aluminum back and new dock connector before, but the front gives us a much better sense of how the finished product  will turn out. Sitting next to an iPhone 4S, it’s suggested that the new model would stuff in that bigger screen more through a better use of the available area — there’s much less blank space than on the iPhones we’ve known since 2007.  Now as we’re getting closer to the official launch of the next iPhone, be prepared for an avalanche of leaked images!

  • Toshiba Unveils a New CMOS Sensor

Toshiba Unveils a New CMOS Sensor

Toshiba has released a new CMOS image sensor with a 0.25 inch optical format. This new sensor has the smallest pixel size to date of 1.12 micrometers and delivers cutting edge peformance with its built in back-side illumination technology.

The sensor has been designed to accomodate tight form factors and still capture high definition images. Due to this feature, the company expects it to be embedded into mobile devices such as cameras, smartphones, tablets and even laptops in the near future. The 8.08 MP sensor can capture video at 60 frames per second at both 720p and 1080p resolutions.

Andrew Burt, vice president, Analog and Imaging Business Unit, System LSI Group, TAEC had this to say,

As smartphones and other portable digital devices move to smaller form factors, image sensors must also shrink in size. This presents imaging subsystem designers with a challenge: how do you get smaller and smaller image sensors to support higher image resolutions when miniaturization can cause a fall off in performance? Our BSI technology overcomes this problem by deploying the lens on the rear of the sensor, on its silicon substrate, not on the front, where wiring limits light absorption. This positioning boosts light sensitivity and absorption, and allows Toshiba to make finer quality image pixels in smaller-sized CMOS image sensors. This increased sensitivity also makes our BSI CMOS image sensors more suitable for video applications, such as video capture or video chat.

  • App a Day: ToonPAINT for iOS and Android

App a Day: ToonPAINT for iOS and Android

Today we have an image editing software for you which manipulates images and allows you to re-colour them. Like the caricature artists in fairs you too can now cartoonize and re-colour your images from your photo albums or take fresh images from your camera. You can share your images in the ToonPAINT hall of fame, post them directly to facebook, tweet about them and also e-mail them.

Lets look at some of the features of the app. After you’ve selected your image, the app processes the image and you can pan/zoom to the desired region, change shading options and the sizes of various attributes that modify the image. After you’ve set the image the way you want it, we move on to the painting section. Here, you can select colours, set brush sizes and pan/zoom into a section of the image and work your magic.

The palette  has a few other options to Auto Colour the image (Available as an in-app purchase) and an Alpha Brush(Available as an in-app purchase), which re-colours your image from the original. Although the interface is attractive, several of the actions are a pain to complete as you must switch between control panels constantly.
