Windows Phone 7.5 ‘Mango’ update being pushed from today

Microsoft has already started seeding the Mango 7.5 builds of Windows phone to existing device holders.  The company’s eager to do a much more efficient job , considering they wern’t able to do it properly during the NoDo update.

As far as supported devices go, According to MS almost all phones are covered in their update schedule. The new update brings over 500 new features and additionally allows users to install apps from third party developers without the need of sideloading them. Microsoft confirmed that Internet Sharing — the long-awaited mobile hotspot functionality — will not be available for existing devices. Which may be a big deal breaker for some users.

ALL Existing Windows Phone 7 Devices to get the official Mango Update within 2 weeks

According to Microsoft’s official Windows Phone Blog, the Windows Phone 7 Mango Update should be available to all existing WP7 devices within another week or two. The Windows Team indicates it won’t be pushed to your phone OTA when the time comes, so you’ll need updated versions of the Zune for PC or Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac installed on your computer.

Looks like this time around the Update may come out the same day, unlike with No-Do when it was over several weeks.

  • HTC is working on a Windows 8 Tablet

HTC is working on a Windows 8 Tablet

According to industry insider Eldar Murtazin, HTC is working on a Windows 8 slate that will be powered by a Qualcomm-built ARM chipset. HTC is usually the first vendor when it comes to portable OS launches from Microsoft. As was the case during launch of Windows Phone 7. Now HTC is possibly going to be the first manufacturer to run windows 8 in tablet form. The only difference here is that a large mass of PC vendors/manufacturers (the likes of Dell, HP, Samsung, Lenovo, Tosiba, Asus, Acer, MSI)  that have the hardware equipped to run Windows 8 tablets already have their devices to boot.

Many tablet PC’s may emerge industry winners when it comes to quick boot Windows 8. Now if someone would port windows to our cheap Touchpads…..!

All four NVIDIA® processor brands will support Windows 8. NVIDIA’s next-generation, quad-core Tegra® processor, code-named Project Kal-El, is an ARM-based system on a chip that will power lightweight, energy-efficient tablets and notebooks. NVIDIA will also support Windows 8 on x86 systems with its GeForce® GPUs, which deliver the best gaming experience; Quadro® GPUs, the leading graphics solution for film-makers and other professional workstation users; and Tesla® GPUs, which provide breakthrough performance for scientific research, data centers, and high performance computing.

“With its elegant user interface and support for tablets and notebooks using ARM-based processors, Windows 8 will bring a seismic shift to the industry,” said Jeff Fisher, senior vice president of the PC Business Unit at NVIDIA. “Our expertise in both ARM and x86 environments, and our intimate familiarity with the Windows code base, makes us uniquely qualified to support Windows 8 developers.”

Microsoft values NVIDIA’s leadership in providing tools to the community.”

Tim Sweeney, the founder of Epic Games, said, “For over a decade, Epic and NVIDIA have worked closely together to ensure that Unreal Engine takes advantage of state-of-the-art GPU technologies. From the incredible DirectX 11 and PhysX effects in Epic’s Samaritan demo to the eye-popping 3D Vision experience in Bulletstorm, our engineers have always enjoyed collaborating with NVIDIA. NVIDIA’s developer support is the gold standard for chip makers. We’re excited by the announcement of their developer program and look forward to a continued partnership and to making the best games on the planet.”
