  • LG G2 Quick Window Case gets official launch before the phone’s launch.

    LG G2 Quick Window Case gets official launch before the phone’s launch.

    LG G2 is the next upgrade for the LG Optimus G which is slated for launch on Aug 7th, but the company is not holding back in sending out accessories for the slated handset. Just like Samsung’s S View cover the Quick WIndow case has a cutout window in the front. But LG has gone one step forward and designed a new QuickView UI which will light up the area with incoming call details, text messages, a clock, weather report, alarm or music player.

    The availability for the LG G2 is still a mystery, but if LG intention to launch accessories is clear, it seems that the phone is not too far away!

    It’s inevitable that LG will follow-up the popular 4.7-inch Android-powered Optimus G with another flagship device. Rumours have been pointing towards something called the “G2? that has a bigger display, more powerful processor, better camera and bigger battery. Engadget might have solved this mystery as they’ve posted an image of a spec sheet that shows the “Optimus G Pro” will be hitting NTT Docomo in Japan soon.

    Apparently, it would sport a 5-inch full HD screen on the front, along with a Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU inside, clocked in at 1.7GHz, and 2GB of RAM to go along with it.

    Furthermore, the device is said to include 32GB of internal memory, along with a 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back, the same as the original Optimus G did.

    The new smartphone is also said to be heavier, at 160 grams, thicker, and 10.1 mm, and to sport a 3000 mAh battery (Optimus G landed last year at 145g and 8.5mm, while featuring a 2100 mAh battery inside).

    For the time being, however, no official confirmation on the existence of this device has been provided, which means that we should take the above with a grain of salt. However, more on it might emerge in the near future, so stay tuned to learn the news.

    LG TO CHANGE MARKET DYNAMICS WITH OPTIMUS G BY FOCUSING ON DIFFERENTIATED USER EXPERIENCE

    LG’s New Flagship LTE Device Offers Superior User Experience for “Living Without Boundaries”

    SEOUL, Sep. 18, 2012 – Today LG announced the launch of the Optimus G, a new premium flagship device offering a unique User Experience (UX) supported by innovative hardware performance. The powerful hardware included in the Optimus G allows for the possibility of such a creative and engaging UX which will enable Optimus G users to “live without boundaries.”

    With a powerful quad-core processor, Snapdragon™ S4 Pro, as its base and industry best technologies for enhanced viewing and longer battery life, LG adds the finishing touches on the Optimus G with a beautiful sleek design and innovative UX features. The offerings in the Optimus G will provide users an experience currently unavailable on any other smartphone.

    “The Optimus G is a groundbreaking premium device not only in the history of LG but also in the smartphone industry,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “With the Optimus G, users will be able to experience unsurpassed UX features that will allow them to perform tasks that really enhance their daily lives.”

    New Form of Cross-Tasking and Engaging UX

    With reliable and speedy performance, LG’s Optimus G doesn’t solely enable multi-tasking but “cross-tasking” of activities without limitations. If multi-tasking applies to running various applications at the same time, cross-tasking applies to complex tasks that can be completed simultaneously without having to compromise other tasks. Some new UX features that will be included into the Optimus G to showcase its cross-tasking and engaging capabilities are:

    · QSlide Function shows two different screens simultaneously on one display. As it doesn’t show a part of the screen but the entire screen of both functions, the user can complete two tasks concurrently – such as sending a text message or searching the web while watching a video;
    · Live Zooming enhances the video-watching experience as users can zoom in up to five times while the video is being streamed for a close-up of one’s child while watching a recorded video from a school recital;
    · Dual Screen Dual Play not only allows mirroring between the smartphone and a TV, it also has the ability to display different content on each screen wirelessly. For example, a slide presentation can be displayed on the TV while the Optimus G shows the accompanying speaking notes;
    · QuickMemo allows users to write, draw, or jot a memo with their finger directly on the captured screen for sharing instantly with others as an attachment or a URL. The QuickMemo can also be used as an overlay feature – like jotting down a number using the QuickMemo and directly dialing the number while the number is on the top layer;
    · Screen Zooming allows for the zooming in and out of lists in music player, email, text messages and photo gallery. It also offers the ability to change the font size and screen layout;
    · Application Link launches preset applications (Email, calendar, weather, etc) when the alarm is turned off – making your preparation time in the morning go a little faster with all the information prepared on your screen;
    · Icon Personalizer allows users the ability to customize icons by editing size and adding images so the most frequently used apps can be most easily accessible.

    In addition, smart and fun camera features in Optimus G will allow for capturing and seizing those special moments in our lives. Utilizing the industry’s highest resolution camera at 13MP, users will have the opportunity to capture their favorite scenes with:

    · Time Catch Shot enables the user to choose the best among various shots taken before the shutter button is pressed;
    · Cheese Shutter takes photos easily with voice activation command just by saying cheese, LG, kimchi or smile;
    · Smart Shutter senses camera vibration or the movement of the subject and adjusts the shutter speed for the best shot;
    · Low Light Shot Noise Reduction employs a light monitoring system and activates when the camera is used in a low-light situation for the least amount of noise.

    Design Masterpiece with Timeless Value

    Inheriting LG’s design DNA and heritage, the blend of delicate design and technology placed the emphasis on simplicity with a completely black unibody form in the Optimus G. For this unique look, LG developed and patented the Crystal Reflection process, which is applied to the back of the Optimus G for a luxurious look and feel. Crystal Reflection gives the Optimus G’s back cover the ability to display different patterns depending on the viewing angle and lighting. Also, the intricate polarized pattern, which sparkles under the sleek surface, creates a three-dimensional illusion that is eye-catching and exquisitely reminiscent of a jewel. And finally, laser cutting gives the Optimus G a clean finish with metallic highlights.

    Unparalleled Technologies for Ultimate UX

    The elegant yet sleek design and the imaginative UX experience displayed in the new Optimus G were possible thanks to a collection of technologies from industry-leading developers in their field.

    Optimus G complements the enhanced UX features with unsurpassed speed and power from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon™ S4 Pro Quad-Core processor. The state-of-the-art technologies such as the Zerogap Touch and True HD IPSPLUS Display from LG Innotek and LG Display harmonize to offer the slimmest, sharpest and clearest viewing experience yet. The new battery from LG Chem has a longer life of 800 cycles, a significant improvement over existing mobile phone batteries. An ultra high-resolution, compact 13MP camera is employed in the Optimus G to offer the sharpest photos without pixelation – even when creating extra-large prints.

    LG Optimus G will go on sale in Korea starting next week followed by key global markets in October.

LG is also banking of future deployments in countries like India and China.

    the home theater segment came out strong with an operating profit of more than double last year at $187.5 million despite slightly lower sales due to an increase in sales of premium products like its Cinema 3D HDTVs. LG also expects to be the top 3D display maker in 2012.

    LG Air Conditioning and Energy Solution Company posted operating profit of KRW 70 billion (USD 60.76 million), a 17 percent increase year-over-year. Revenues increased 21 percent quarter-to-quarter but declined year-over-year to KRW 1.47 trillion (USD 1.28 billion) due to weak residential conditioner sales in Korea and low demand in developed markets. LG ANNOUNCES SECOND-QUARTER 2012 FINANCIAL RESULTS

    Solid Performance in Home Appliance and Home Entertainment
    Helps Offset Difficult Quarter in Mobile Phones

    SEOUL, July 25, 2012 –- LG Electronics (LG) today reported a 46 percent increase in net profits for the second quarter of 2012 versus the same period a year ago. Despite the continuing recessionary conditions, LG’s operating profit in the most recent quarter increased significantly year-over-year. Stronger performance in home entertainment and home appliances compared to the second quarter last year helped offset profit declines in LG’s mobile business.

    Due to a combination of more premium products, strategic focus on developing markets and aggressive cost reductions, second-quarter net profit increased 46 percent year-over-year to KRW 159 billion (USD 138.02 million) while operating profit more than doubled to KRW 349 billion (USD 302.95 million) from the same period last year. Revenues, while 5.2 percent higher than in the first quarter, declined from last year’s second quarter by 10.6 percent to KRW 12.86 trillion (USD 11.16 billion) due to declining feature phone sales and weak demand for IT products.

    LG Home Entertainment Company posted significantly improved operating profit in the quarter compared to the same period in 2011. Due in large part to an increase in sales of more premium products and improved supply chain management, operating profit more than doubled to 216 billion (USD 187.5 million) year-over-year. Sales declined 5.8 percent from the same period a year ago to KRW 5.48 trillion (USD 4.76 billion) but increased 2.8 percent from the first quarter of 2012. LG’s popular CINEMA 3D TVs will continue to drive sales in the second half as it pushes ahead to become the top global seller in the 3D segment.

    LG Mobile Communications Company, after a positive first quarter, struggled somewhat in the most recent quarter with an operating loss of KRW 57 billion (USD 49.48 million) mainly due to greater marketing expenses related to new model launches in the quarter. Overall revenues declined 28.5 percent year-over-year to KRW 2.32 trillion (USD 2.01 billion) as a result of shrinking feature phone sales but smartphone shipments rose to 44 percent of unit sales, up from 36 percent the previous quarter capitalizing on LG’s strength in LTE phones. The company is planning to introduce new LTE models in the second half in developed 4G regions including North America and parts of Europe and Asia.

    LG Home Appliance Company saw its second-quarter 2012 operating profit nearly triple to KRW 165 billion (USD 143.23 million) from the same period last year thanks to a better product mix and improved cost efficiency. Revenues also increased year-over-year to KRW 2.88 trillion (USD 2.50 billion) from growth in developing markets. The company still expects improved results in the second half compared to the previous year despite ongoing weak demand in developed markets.

Revenues increased 21 percent quarter-to-quarter but declined year-over-year to KRW 1.47 trillion (USD 1.28 billion) due to weak residential conditioner sales in Korea and low demand in developed markets. However, profitability improved year-over-year led by higher contribution from system air conditioner sales. The company will focus on improving profitability by introducing more energy-efficient products and by accelerating growth in its commercial air conditioner systems business.

  • LG Optimus Black Review

    LG Optimus Black Review

    The LG Optimus Black was announced a while back, March 2011 to be precise, but the device appeared on our shores much later in July. People awaited the LG Optimus Black with much anticipation as it offered brilliance on a budget.

    Does it really stand up to its name? Does it deliver brilliance? Lets Find Out!

    Build Quality

    The Optimus Black is possibly the most well built phone in LG’s stable, only after the 2X. With a slim profile and tapered glossy black accents, the device also has a tough front glass and a brilliant camera. The device is built to last and will not fail to deliver in that respect. The plastic is of superior quality and the device does not rattle or squeak from anywhere.

    Name Type
    Operating System   Android OS v2.2
     Dimensions  122mm x 64mm x 9.2 mm
     Weight  109g
     Display Screen  4 inch WVGA IPS LCD
     Processor  1 GHz Cortex A8 Processor
     RAM  512 MB
     Storage  2GB Internal + 32GB Optional
     Camera  5 MP Rear : 2 MP Front (AF)
     Video  720P VIDEO @30 fps
     Connectivity  Wi-Fi, 3G, GPRS, EDGE,
    A-GPS, Bluetooth v3.1 with EDR
     Battery  1500 mAh Li-Ion
    The Price of the Device is about : Rs. 19,800 in the Market

    Camera & Multimedia

    The device features a brilliant 5mp Autofocus camera on the back that does HD video at 720p (watch sample below). The picture quality  from the 5mp snapper is absolutely stunning, the camera focuses with precision and the LED does a wonderful job of eliminating darkness. The camera is also snappy at taking pictures and responds quickly.

    Video quality is pretty great and almost close to what the iPhone 4 has to offer in good light, but kind of waivers in low light.

    The front facing camera is simply superb quality and works just fine with Skype and other video softwares.

    Audio from videos is low, but in game audio and music sounds are loud. The preference file some where needs to be tweaked to output proper audio. the speaker is fairly loud when the audio is proper. But, not as great as we would have like it to be.

    The display is absolutely brilliant with a 700NIT brightness. The brightest display on a mobile device ever, makes the quality of the display that much better, whether indoors or outdoors. The only drawback of a very bright display is low battery life.

    Phone & Messaging

    The earpiece and microphone are great to pick up sound, but one unfortunate error in the design of the Optimus black prevents you from using the phone as a PHONE. every time you hold the phone in your hand, the network drops. So much so that we went able to get through a decent phone call to test audio quality. At first we thought the device was defective and got a replacement test unit, but alas!, still no proper network. So how good is a phone thats not a phone? its pathetic, is what it is, purely pathetic.

    The touchscreen is a 4 point multitouch which allows for a simply great messaging experience, not to forget the iPhone style keyboard. The network issue prevails here as well, as you grip the phone to type, the device looses network.

    Data & Battery

    The Optimus Black is almost Satan’s child when it comes to how hot it gets on a data connection, its almost impossible to handle. The device gets blazing hot and starts to loose battery at an alarming rate, flat dead in 25-40 minutes. With data off, you get about 4 hours of talk time along with about two days of standby.

    Not having been able to test internet performance we can’t comment on the battery life beyond that.

    Conclusion

    Its a pity that LG let us down yet again, we really liked the device when we got it at first. The device has good specs, excellent build, brilliant cameras and a very – very bright display. A great touch screen and decent hardware, but the device basically fails at being a phone. The death grip network loss issue is beyond excuse and cannot be mended with any kind of fix. ( except a full silicon cover or gloves on the users hands) the phone also performed poorly in the benchmarks.

    We had a lot of expectations from this device and feel totally let down. LG really needs to step up their game, they have possibly good hardware, but something somewhere went wrong with the Optimus Black.

  • LG joins the Android QWERTY bandwagon with Optimus Pro

    LG joins the Android QWERTY bandwagon with Optimus Pro

    Looks like a Samsung Galaxy Pro competitor from Samsung competitor – The LG Optimus Pro is on sale in Italy and coming to the rest of the world soon. Known specs include Android 2.3 gingerbread a 2.8 inch QVGA touchscreen and a 3.2 MP camera. All of this will run on a 800MHZ processor and 256mb of RAM. The device has a nice Candy Bar design and should fare well against competition if the pricing is right. Currently it sells for €179 which seems a tad bit high.
