  • iOS 7 Battery Drain Fixes for iPods, iPhone 4, 4s, iPhone 5, 5c and iPhone 5s

iOS 7 Battery Drain Fixes for iPods, iPhone 4, 4s, iPhone 5, 5c and iPhone 5s

If you recently upgraded your iPhone 4, 4s and or 5 to iOS 7 then you are probably suffering from massive battery loss on your iOS device also known as post-upgrade-drain-syndrome. However we have been able to locate a few causes that could be the culprits behind the whole iOS 7 battery life drain issue.

Check out the ten quick fixes below and the ultimate fix at the bottom.

    o-IOS-7-BATTERY-LIFE-570

    Quick Fixes

    1. Brightness and Display Timeout : It’s an age old problem, and probably the easiest to fix quickly : ensure that the brightness is not turned up too high and the timeout of the display is at 1 minute. This will save the battery considerably as the biggest consumer of iOS 7 battery is the Display.

    2. Location Services : In iOS 7 a lot of apps ask for location use consent and users mostly agree without realizing that the use of GPS causes sufferable battery drain, quickly fix theis by going to Settings > Privacy > Location Services and turning off apps you don’t want using this service. For example Google Chrome may use location to find localized results but you may not need that, so turn it off. Also at the bottom of the Location services menu, you will find a System Services panel, which can be further tweaked to turn off options like Location Based iAds etc. that you don’t need.

    o-IOS-7-BATTERY-LIFE-570

    3. iPhone 5/ 5s Parallax : The fun new animation which causes the wallpaper in the background to move, making the whole plane of the iPhone look 3 dimensional also affects the battery life drastically. Head over to Settings > General > Accessibility  and set “Reduce Motion” to On. This will disable parallax and increase iOS 7 battery life.

    4. Background App Refresh: If your apps are getting updated and refreshed while your phone is resting, its not really resting. While your phone is on standby , its actually getting drained pinging the servers for data refreshes. turning this off will improve battery life considerably. Find it in Settings > General “Background  App Refresh” you can turn it off completely or turn off apps you can refresh manually.

    5. Push Mail / Fetch Mail : Push Mail and Fetch mail also check the servers for new email frequently, using up data and battery life, setting this to manual will help the battery life of your iPhone / iPod. However some would rather have this feature on. Find the settings in Settings > Mail,Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data.

    6. Incompatible Apps : Some apps that have not been optimized for iOS 7 may cause battery drain issues, one such daily use app is “Whatsapp”. In our testing we saw that battery drained 200 times faster if Whatsapp is actively running on the iOS 7 device. If not using this app is not an option, then double tapping the home button and sliding the app away to fully quit the app may be a good option to save battery life.

    7. iPhone 5/ 5s Airdrop: On the iPhone 5, 5c and 5s a new feature called Airdrop allows you to share files between other iOS devices that support this feature including Mac OS devices. However if you don’t use this feature frequently turning this off from the control center will save additional battery. Swipe the control center up and tap on AirDrop , then tap “Off” and you are all set.

    o-IOS-7-BATTERY-LIFE-570

    8. Spotlight Settings : With iOS 7, you can now search for anything on your iPhone using Spotlight. All you have to do is pull down on your Home screen and you can search pretty much every part of your phone, from notes to music, to mail. This also takes a mjor hit on the Battery, simply reduce the search options to the ones you do use : go to Settings > General > Spotlight search and set it to use only things you use.

    9. Siri: Unless you use Siri frequently, turn her/him off. If you do use Siri, then turning off “Raise to Speak” in Settings > General > Siri will keep the proximity sensor from being used all the time.

    10. Bluetooth and Wifi: Although the essence of any Smartphone, if you are not a frequent user of Bluetooth and Wifi, then turning them off will help improve iOS 7 battery life.

Although the above fixes will help a lot with the battery life drain, turning off only those features you can live without is recommended. If all else fails try the major Fix below.

    Major Fix:

Set Up as a new device:

In most cases when we update any hardware from one generation of OS to the next, it is recommended that a fresh install be done. Similarly when you upgraded your iOS 6 device to iOS7, a lot of profiles and cached files, tmp file and even some preferences get carried over to iOS 7 which may not essentially be compatible with the new OS and may cause the processor on the iPhone/ iPod to get overworked.

Take a backup of all your images, sync up your contact to iCloud or any similar service, and bid adieu to the old messages. Put your iPhone / iPod in DFU mode , and restore the device via iTunes, once the new iOS is downloaded and flashed on your iPhone / iPod, set it up as a new device and do not restore from backup.

Simply sync back your images, contacts, music and apps and you are good to go. You will see a drastic change in the battery life of your iDevices, as this method will make your device fresh and delete all the garbage that was not required.

  • Samsung Says First Gold S4 Was Sold Even Before The Gold iPhone Was Announced

Samsung Says First Gold S4 Was Sold Even Before The Gold iPhone Was Announced

Apple released its two new iPhone’s on 10th September 2013, iPhone 5c and 5s. iPhone 5s was launched with the new color ‘gold’ and since then, we have seen leaks for HTC phones going Gold but in the recent news we saw Samsung Galaxy S4 in gold color.

On Friday, Samsung posted to the company’s blog, Samsung indirectly acknowledged the popularity of Apple’s new gold iPhone 5S by posting a gallery where they showed all the phones launched in gold color by them(including Gold S4 ). The blog said:

“Everybody loves gold, which is why we sometimes make phones in that color. (Or sometimes even with actual gold for the body!) See below to check out some of the phones we’ve released in gold in the past”

The blog post was likely crafted in response to voices on social media channels like Twitter that took Samsung to task for claiming (indirectly) earlier in the week that it had a gold smartphone on the market before the iPhone.

Samsung to Reportedly Make 30-40 Percent of Apple’s A8 chip

The A8 chip in Apple’s next flagship smartphone will be made by Samsung, as reported by Korean daily Hankyung, but majority of the manufacturing will be handled by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.

TSMC will have the major responsibility of manufacturing 60 to 70 percent of the A8 processors, while the rest would be manufactured by Samsung itself. Samsung will be manufacturing 30 to 40 percent of the processors for Apple’s next generation devices.

Earlier, reports showed that Samsung manufactured the A7 chips for Apple, but this time Apple has signed a deal with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company in the month of June to start manufacturing chips for upcoming Apple devices.

Apple Hires Nike FuelBand Designer Ben Shaffer, iWatch Coming Soon ?

Apple has hired the Nike design director Ben Shaffer, according to a source at Nike with knowledge of the details behind Shaffer’s departure. Ben Shaffer was the Studio Director of the Innovation Kitchen which is Nike’s research and development lab where new product designs are created.

Nike was named the most innovative company in 2013 by Fast Company. Nike’s Innovation Kitchen has been connected to wearable products like the popular Nike Fuel Band, and most recently, the Flyknit shoe. Earlier, Apple also hired fitness expert and Nike FuelBand consultant Jay Blahnik.

After all this one can simply assume that the company’s upcoming wearable will incorporate some of Nike’s fitness-tracking tech, probably the iWatch would have the same or better qualities. Only time will tell, or if we get any exclusive leaked news we will keep you informed!

Rumoured Specs Of iPad 5 And iPad Mini 2 (In Gold) Leak

The iPad Mini 2 is rumored to come in the same colors as the new iPhone 5S, we have already seen a photo of the Space Gray version, and now it looks like we have some photos of the gold version of the iPad Mini 2.

    ipad

Sonny Dickson, the Australian blogger who revealed most of the details about Apple’s iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c before it was launched, has just revealed a ton of details and shared leaked photos of the next generation iPad mini.

Dickson also mentioned that, according to his sources, the iPad mini 2 would include Apple’s new A7 64-bit chip, the M7 motion coprocessor we’re seeing in the iPhone 5s, along with 1GB of RAM. As for the 9.7-inch iPad 5, Dickson’s sources revealed that it will pack 2GB of RAM under the hood, presumably sporting the same specs as little brother. He also claims that iPad mini 2 will come in Space Gray, Gold and Silver. The iPad mini 2 will also include Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which was introduced with the launch of iPhone 5s.

If Apple wants Touch ID to be taken seriously and gain mass appeal, it makes sense to have it on as many devices as possible. With that in mind, we’d say it was likely that the iPad 5 will get the same fingerprint scanner, although we can’t say for definite.

Rumour has it that Apple is hosting a media event on Oct 15, which likely will serve as the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 release date and Apple fans are crossing their fingers for the prayer to become real.

  • Apple Releases iOS 7.0.2 Update To Fix Lock Screen Bug

Apple Releases iOS 7.0.2 Update To Fix Lock Screen Bug

Apple has started to roll out iOS 7.0.2  to fix a lock screen security bug which was discovered just the very next day when iOS 7 was available for the general masses.

Apple says iOS 7.0.2 will fix the issue where users could bypass an iPhone lock screen to gain access to personal information like photos, email, text messages, Facebook, Flickr, and Twitter accounts. It seems iOS 7.0.2 is a basic security update, however, Apple also said that the new update will also include a Greek keyboard option for passcode entry.

    ios 7.0.2

A NULL dereference existed in the lock screen which would cause it to restart if the emergency call button was tapped repeatedly. While the lock screen was restarting, the call dialler could not get the lock screen state and assumed the device was unlocked, and so allowed non-emergency numbers to be dialed. This issue was addressed by avoiding the NULL dereference,” said Apple.

  • Apple Ordered to Pay $3 Million Over Patent Voilation in Japan

Apple Ordered to Pay $3 Million Over Patent Voilation in Japan

Apple is again into the news but this time it is not because of the iPhone 5c or the iPhone 5s, it is because of the iPod as Tokyo District Court ordered Apple to pay ¥300 million ($3.3 million).

Apple is been asked to pay this amount to Japanese inventor Norihiko Saito for infringing on a patent covering the touch-sensitive click wheel used in the iPod Classic and older models of its music player.

The patent that Norihiko Saito’s company applied for in 1998 covers a technology for the Click Wheel controller that Apple has adopted for the music player in Japan since 2004, Judge Teruhisa Takano said in the ruling.

    ipod_classic_

Saito’s damages come more than five years after he filed the patent lawsuit, during which time he demanded damages of ¥10 billion ($101 million), based partly on the number of iPods Apple had sold during that period. The final figure($3.3 million) that came up is way less than what was demanded ($101 million) before, Apple might not have any problems paying this amount considering the sales of the new iPhones.

  • Fake iMessage App For Android Surfaces, Raises Security Concerns

Fake iMessage App For Android Surfaces, Raises Security Concerns

There’s something fishy about this iMessage app for Android, and it’s not the fact that it’s using an outdate iOS 6 skin. While that should be a first warning sign, the reality is that the app, which recently appeared in the Google Play Store, is the work of a third-party developer. It by no means provides official cross-platform access to Apple’s popular messaging service.

9to5Mac reports that scrutiny of the .apk file – the form the program takes outside the Play Store ecosystem – suggests that there is a serious potential risk to personal data. The app works by using the developer’s own server as a proxy to spoof messages into appearing to come from an iPad Mini, thus bypassing the strict “Apple Only” nature of the iMessage protocol. However, in doing so, it means that the developer has access to all of your message data.

People that have tried the app reported varying results – some report that they can only message other Android users, while others have only some Apple contacts.

In addition to these security flaws, the iMessage app requires you to sign in with a working Apple ID. As you probably already know if you have one, your Apple ID stores payment information and personal data, and serves as your gateway into a number of Apple services.

The iMessage for Android app is available as a free download in the Google Play Store and is by a developer called Daniel Zweigart.

  • Apple Updates iMacs With Haswell Chips, Faster GPU

Apple Updates iMacs With Haswell Chips, Faster GPU

Apple today announced a refresh to its iMac lineup, which adds Intel’s new Haswell processors, next-gen Wi-Fi, and more.

The base 21.5-inch model will most likely sport the quad-core Core i5-4570R (2.7GHz base clock, turbo up to 3.2GHz with Iris Pro graphics), and the top of the line 27-inch SKU bringing what is likely the Core i7-4771 (3.5GHz base clock, turbo up to 3.9GHz).

The faster 802.11ac Wi-Fi (also known as Gigabit Wi-Fi) paves the way for up to three times faster wireless data transfers compared to the previous generation. Apple of course recently updated its AirPort wireless appliances with 802.11ac compatibility.

Due to the new PCIe-based flash storage (also found in the mid-2013 MacBook Air), Apple says the iMac’s optional Fusion Drive (a HDD + SDD combo) is now up to 50 percent faster than the previous generation.

iMac comes standard with 8 gigabytes of memory and a 1-terabyte hard drive, and customers can choose to configure their iMac with up to 32 gigabytes of memory and up to a 3-terabyte hard drive. iMac also comes with two Thunderbolt and four USB 3.0 ports for connecting to external storage and other high performance peripherals.

On the graphics side, the top spec gets a decent upgrade, with the Nvidia GTX 780M offering higher clock speeds and more RAM over its predecessor, the GTX 680MX. On the low end, we see Intel’s own Iris Pro integrated graphics take the place of Nvidia’s GT 640M, a good indicator that Intel’s graphics efforts are making inroads on lower specced machines.

The new iMacs ship with Mac OS X Mountain Lion. Indian pricing and availability will be announced soon!

  • Apple Sells 9 Million iPhone’s in First Three Days

Apple sold 9 Million iPhone’s in first three days, the company said that sales of the iPhone 5S and 5C had beaten previous launches of new phones. Apple did not revealed separate sales figures for the 5s and 5c. The 5s model, whose price starts at $649, the device offers a touch ID that can scan a user’s fingerprint to unlock the phone. The less expensive 5c, which starts at $549 comes in an variety of colors.

Demand for the iPhone 5s has exceeded the initial supplies and online orders are scheduled to be shipped in the coming weeks, the company said in a statement.

Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive said: “The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we’ve sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5S, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone.” he added

    iphone5srumor-1378352082

When Apple unveiled the iPhone 5 a year ago, it sold more than 5 million in the first three days after its launch. Apple also said in a regulatory filing it expects total revenue for the fourth fiscal quarter to be near the high end of the previously estimated range of $34 billion to $37 billion.

  • Cops in NY promotes iOS 7’s Security Features

The New York Police Department seems to be a big fan of iOS 7, the department has officers out on the street encouraging the iPhone owners to update to iOS 7, which has new security features that they believe might cut down on thefts.

Devices running iOS 7 can be remotely secured when lost and with the touch id it can be further secured(if one ignores the exceptions). The NYPD hopes that these features will discourage thefts, specially for Apple devices.

    BUuWywlCAAEBbiG

The changes in iOS 7 have received praise from both New York’s attorney general and the San Francisco district attorney. In a joint statement earlier this week, the two say :

iOS 7 is an important first step towards ending the global epidemic of smartphone theft.”

Thefts might not stop overnight, but they believe that the Activation Lock (the remote securing feature) is an important effort that might reduce phone thefts in the near future.
