Airtel Joins Hands With Tata To Survive The Jio Storm

The introduction of the Reliance Group’s Jio network has brought substantial changes in the Indian telecom industry. It is a common occurrence in businesses to have acquisitions and mergers taking place for mutual benefit between two or more parties. The added edge of two companies working together helps provide an advantage to both parties and increases economical prospects, such as the Airtel and Tata merger.

According to a new report, Tata Teleservices’ Consumer Mobile services have now officially been integrated into Bharti Airtel. The news of the completion of the merger arrived after a joint statement issued by both the companies.

The aforementioned companies have seen their fair share of business troubles ever since the debut of the highly competitive Jio network. Reliance Group’s critically acclaimed network had brought data packages and call rates to an all-time low. Noteworthy, India currently holds the title of consuming the highest amount of mobile data per head, which is somewhat due to the Jio revolution. This seemingly undercut every one of the prevailing competitors such as Airtel, Vodafone and Idea. Furthermore, the move caused massive losses to other telecom service providers and forced many to slash rates or start a joint venture, such as the Idea India and Vodafone merger.

As of July 1st 2019, the arrangement regarding the merger of the Consumer Mobile Businesses of Tata Teleservices and Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) into Bharti Airtel and Bharti Hexacom are now in effect. In accordance with the merger, Airtel will absorb the Tata Telecom services operations in 19 telecom circles. It has also agreed to take all the customers, assets, spectrum, and agreed liabilities of the Consumer Mobile Business from Tata.

The merger will boost Airtel’s spectrum pool with a significant addition of 178.5MHz spectrum in 1800, 2100 and 850 MHz bands. These are used in 4G and translate to better overall connectivity, spread and penetration of the network. This is a welcomed move as existing Airtel and even Tata customers will largely benefit from the business merger. It is yet to see how performance is affected in real-world practice but positive results are expected all across the board.

Tata Indicom To End CDMA Service In Delhi From 19th March
Due to the continuous number of subscriber loss, Tata Indicom is shutting down its CDMA services in Delhi. In fact, in 2016 alone, the company has lost 19,08,994 customers. The company will be scrapping of the operation from 19th March 2018. Due to continues subscriber fall and financial losses, the company is all set to wrap of the services to prevent the financial burden.

Reliance and Tata Indicom were the major CDMA service providers in India. Reliance recently shut down its service and now its Tata Indicom’s turn to do the same.

All active customers are receiving a text message to opt out of the service within the above-mentioned date. If not, the user will witness the permanent disconnection from the services.

If a user likes to retain his number, then he has to use Mobile number portability service.

Set-Top Boxes to Allow Internet Browsing on Television Sets

Even though this news is of not much consequence for smart-television users, it is an interesting development for those who use standard television sets. Tata Sky and Videocon d2h have announced that their set-top boxes will now also feature web browsing.

DTH (direct-to-home) service providers have experimented with various interactive features which have only been supplemented by things like 4K display support on TV channels. Internet browsing is yet another feather added to the cap. This doesn’t mean, however, that users can use services like video streaming.

Tata Sky offers this new service to all existing customers free of cost, while Videocon d2h is yet to confirm details of its offers. Those using a smart-TV already have access to the Internet along with a pre-loaded app store. Having said that, this is still an interesting tech development for others.

Android Nanodegree : Google Announces a New Course For Young App Developers

If you’re looking for a course in coding apps, Google and Tata Trusts may have the answer for you. The two names have come together to launch an Android Nanodegree in partnership with Udaycity. The course aims at letting developers work on their skills from anywhere in the country on a phone, laptop or tablet. Google and Tata Trusts will also offer a 1,000 scholarships for students as part of the programme.

Rajan Anandan, VP & Managing Director of Google South East Asia and India said at the launch event of the initiative, “With the launch of this program we want to bridge the gap by providing India’s developer community an easy access to learn and build high quality apps for the world. Today, only 2% of apps built in India feature in the top 1000 apps globally and our goal is to raise this to 10% in next three years. We’re pleased to announce, that Google along with Tata Trusts will offer 500 free scholarships each to developers for Android Developer Nanodegree program.”

The Udacity Android Nanodegree program is open for enrollment right now. The program takes an average of 6-9 months and costs Rs. 9,800 per month with Udacity refunding 50 percent of the tuition upon completion. Google will also host a career summit for thirty of the top graduates from the Android Nanodegree program in Bangalore by end of this year. Ratan Tata Buys Stake in Xiaomi

Recently we heard the Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi, claiming that it wants to be an Indian company. Today, according to an official post by Xiaomi, Ratan Tata has acquired stake in the brand, making him the first Indian investor.

Tata Motors launches eight models including CNG Nano

Tata Motors has launched eight new products across five brands to mark ‘Horizonext’, its new passenger car business strategy, at its plant in Pune. While some models get additional kit and a choice of new colours, the company has also unveiled CNG variants for the Indica, Indigo and the Nano. Horizonext is all about evolution rather than revolution. Which is why all eight products showcased at the company’s plant in Pune encompassing cars and utility vehicles, are refreshes rather than all-new products.

The Tata Indigo eCS now comes with a new powertrain, a new Feather-shift gearbox and an all new noise, vibration and harshness package. The Sumo Gold gets dual AC, bluetooth and USB connectivity. There is a new Nano with keyless entry, twin glove boxes, a four speaker music system with blutooth, USB and aux-in connectivity. The new nano also features a chrome strip on its hood and a new vent on its boot for better engine cooling. The Nano can now also be customised with personalisation kits.

The Indica is now available in a new range of colours and graphic designs. It also gets a refreshed exterior, dual path suspension set-up, multimedia entertainment options and Feather-shift gearbox with smart-shifter gear technology. Tata Motors also announced the launch of the Safari Storme Explorer edition, which is equipped with a double DIN touchsreen multimedia system, a nudge guard, door visors, explorer decals among other gear.

The CNG lineup includes the Nano (called emax), the Indica and the Indigo.

According to Tata Motors, these refreshes mark a new direction for Tata Motors. The company now wants to focus on improving existing technology and fine-tuning it to function better. Improvement in ergonomics, interior quality and features are other focus areas for Tata Motors as part of this strategy along with speed in bringing out new and improved products. The company added that it was its new mission to bring about desirable products that will make sense not just today but in the future as well.

We expect to see all the updated models as well as the CNG variants in showrooms very soon.

2013 Tata Nano coming this month

The 2013 Tata Nano is all set to hit the markets next week, however you will be hard pressed to tell the difference between itself and its predecessor. The 2013 Nano comes only with minor cosmetic changes and no significant upgrades.

The 2013 Nano gets new bumpers and strips of chrome both on the front and rear on what is otherwise a largely unchanged exterior. The rear bumper does get bigger air vents though for better cooling of the engine.

The noticeable change on the inside is the addition of a glove box, with the rest of the interior staying largely the same except for some colour, trim and fabric changes. The top-end model however will come with an integrated music system (with both speakers placed on the dashboard) with CD, MP3, Aux-in, USB and Bluetooth capabilities. Such additions may make the Nano more appealing to its customer base.

Other upgrades are largely focused on improving the quality and reliability of the car including a new clutch to replace the highly criticized one on the outgoing model. A few mechanical and electrical upgrades have also been done. The proven 623cc, twin-cylinder engine is carried over from the 2012 model and continues to deliver acceptable performance and impressive fuel economy.

The 2013 Nano is something of a stepping stone for the much awaited power steering and CNG equipped variants, both of which are expected by the end of the year. The power steering would surely help Tata’s sales as the effort required to park this car due to its heavy steering is well accounted in the automotive world. The new Nano is expected to come with a marginal increase in price.

Sat-nav systems are of great help in finding locations reducing wastages of time and fuel while also making one’s drive comfortable and safer. Sat-nav systems are yet to pick up in India due to incomplete and inaccurate mapping, however organisations such as MapmyIndia are working to provide an updated range of maps across cities outside the metros. Expect to see more indigenous cars with in-built and functional sat-nav systems in the coming years.

Jaguar XJ Ultimate Edition Launched At Rs 1.88 Crore

Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover today launched luxury sedan Jaguar XJ Ultimate Edition, priced up to Rs 1.88 crore (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

The XJ Ultimate, imported in India through completely built unit (CBU) route, will be available with Jaguar’s existing 5.0-litre V8 petrol supercharged engine and 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged diesel engine, all driving the rear wheels via an eight-speed transmission.

New oval exhaust pipes have also been added to the model, finished in polished stainless steel.

The Jaguar XJ Ultimate Edition is also coming with massage and ventilated seats, a full length leather trimmed central console, Meridian 20-speaker surround sound in-car entertainment system, a bespoke champagne chiller mounted between the two rear seats, two third-gen iPads with wireless keyboards in the rear, wireless headphones for the rear passengers and much more, which will definitely be appreciated by future owners of the model.

Tata Launches Indica Vista D90 For Rs 5.99 Lakh

Tata Motors has launched the new Vista D90 hatchback in India that is powered by the Quadrajet diesel engine with variable geometry turbocharger (VGT).

Price of the car starts from 5.99 lakh rupees and at present it is available in two variants- VX and GX+.

The new Vista D90 is around 15000 Rupees more than corresponding 75PS Vista trim (ex-Delhi price).

In terms of exterior, it is quite identical to the usual Vista, with the only difference being the black contrast roof which was seen on 10th anniversary car. Various external accessories are offered by Tata and these include rear spoiler and side skirts.

Major changes can be observed in the interiors. Vista got the dashboard like that of Manza. Vista also offers the automatic air-con along with three modes. Apart from this, there is an all-new touch-screen stereo system accompanied with the Bluetooth and GPS.

At present, Vista is available in three engine choices and these include two diesels and one petrol version (65PS).

On the safety front the Vista D90 gets ABS, EBD and dual airbags. The Vista D90 is being offered in five different colours; Porcelain white, Spice Red, cavern Grey, Jet Silver and a new shade called Ultra Violet.

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, Tata Motors sold 2,202 units of Nano in December 2012 in the domestic market as compared to 7,466 units in same month previous year. Exports also came down to 40 units during the month, from 548 units in December 2011.

2013 Range Rover Launched in India

Tata owned Jaguar Land Rover Automobiles have launched the all new 2013 Range Rover in India. The 2013 Range Rover is available in three variants, the Vogue SE is set at Rs 1.72 crore, the all new Autobiography at Rs 1.79 crore and the range topping Autobiography petrol at a mind numbing Rs 1.84 crore ex-showroom-Delhi. According to Jaguar Land Rover, the 2013 Range Rover is the world’s first all-aluminium monocoque and also lays claims to be the largest automotive panel in the world’.

The new Rover has a redesigned body shell, which is lighter by about 400kg and this should contribute to better agility, performance and fuel efficiency.

The 2013 Range Rover also has a larger more spacious wheelbase (40mm more than the previous version), expanding the legroom for the middle row by 118mm.

The Range Rover’s off road capabilities also get a boost thanks to the 18mm increase in ground clearance. The wading depth is also now a claimed 900mm, up from the previous 700mm with an all new Terrain Response 2 system with auto setting and intelligent suspension control based on the terrain. The driver will also have the ability to set from 5 manual options for the ride quality.

The Autobiography Petrol has a 510PS supercharged V8 petrol engine with a response time from 0-100kmph of 5.1 second while the Diesel variants come with 258PS SDV8 which improves acceleration times when compared to the existing outgoing version. With a 1920 x 1080 High-definition size, and H.264 movie compression, beautiful movies can be shot even longer. With a dedicated movie button, starting and stopping movies is easy with a single touch. Linear PCM method is used for clear audio quality when recording.

DUAL IS Image Stabilization
DUAL IS is an image stabilization system that counteracts the direction of camera shake by moving the CMOS sensor via a shift-type image stabilization mechanism, and uses digital SLR algorithms. By using this function in combination with high-sensitivity shooting, camera shake and subject blur is effectively reduced, providing double image stabilization.

Magic Filter
Dramatic and Random Tile have been added to the popular Magic Filter mode. In addition to previous options, the two new filters make a total of 12 different options to choose from: Pop, Pinhole, Fisheye, Sketch, Wedding, Rock, Watercolor, Crystal, Miniature, and Mirror. Pop, Pinhole, Sketch, Fisheye, Wedding, Rock, Watercolor, Miniature, and Mirror can also be used when shooting movies.

Beauty Mode*6 Makeup Function
The Makeup function has been added to Beauty mode, allowing users to apply full makeup to people’s faces in images after shooting. This function offers a full range of 17 different effects that will make women happy. Because effects are divided into four different themes such as Makeup, Eye Effects, Performance, and Spa, they are easy to choose from.
The Makeup menu screen is packed with cosmetic choices such as Cheeks, Eye Shadow, and False Eyelashes, so that users can easily choose and apply effects. In the Eye Effect menu, users can not only change eye color, but make eyes appear bigger. In the Spa menu, users can make subjects faces appear smaller, and add effects such as Lift-up to make faces look even more beautiful.

High-Speed Continuous Shooting
This camera is able to shoot 5 fps at 14 megapixels. In high-speed continuous mode, the camera can shoot at a maximum speed of up to 30 fps. Continuous shooting function: 2 fps (14M), 5 fps (14M), 10 fps (5M), 30 fps (5M)

3D Photo*7 Shooting Function
This function enables capturing everything from everyday scenes to dynamic scenery in 3D.
3D Photo brings a fully three-dimensional feel to photos so that it feels like looking at actual scenery. For even more intense enjoyment, users can view the images on a 3D compatible TV or computer.
By simply selecting 3D Photo from the shooting mode, pressing the shutter button and sliding the camera horizontally, a 3D photo is created. Both the 3D data (MPO format) and the JPEG data are saved. 3D Photo can be used in Auto (after the first shot is complete, the second shot will automatically be taken once the camera is moved to match the target) and Manual (after the first shot is complete, the user takes the second shot after matching the semi-transparent layers). To play back, users simply select 3D Photo or regular photo, and then images can be viewed on a 3D compatible TV or computer.

MPO Files (Multi Picture Format)
This is a file format that conforms to CIPA standards for treating multiple images as a single image file. With 3D Photo, the two images with a disparity between the left and right eyes are merged into a single image and recorded as a Multi Picture Format file.

Pet Mode (Scene Mode)*8
Dogs and cats are automatically detected. By selecting Pet-cat or Pet-dog modes, the camera will automatically detect cats or dogs and focus on their faces. Up to ten dog or cat faces can be detected.

Auto Shutter
Capture pets’ cute expressions. With Auto Shutter, the camera will automatically shoot when a pet faces the camera head-on. With this function, users won’t miss the whimsical antics of their pets. (Auto Shutter can detect only one pet.)

Eye-Fi Support*9
Eye-Fi cards are SDHC memory cards that contain an internal wireless LAN. Images can be wirelessly uploaded to picture services, online photo albums, and computers.

SNS Upload Function
This function allows images to be easily uploaded to services such as Facebook and Flickr.
After shooting, images users want to share can be added to a list, and then transferred to a computer. Images added to a list on a computer can be searched with a single touch and easily uploaded. (It is necessary to preinstall the included software, OLYMPUS Viewer2, on a computer.)
