Xiaomi Lowers Price of Redmi Note 4G by Rs 2,000

Great news for Xiaomi fans. The company has announced a price cut for Redmi Note 4G in an official tweet.

From today, people can buy the Redmi Note 4G at a discounted price of Rs. 7,999 from Xiaomi’s website as well as various leading websites and retail stores. The news is not only exciting for existing Xiaomi fans, but should also excite those who have been looking for a new phone.+

It seems Xiaomi has reduced the price to take on the K3 Note, which was recently launched by Lenovo and has similar specifications. The new price cut makes the Redmi Note 4G more affordable than the K3 Note.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G is a 4G LTE ready device. It is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 CPU coupled with 2GB of RAM. The Redmi Note 4G sports a 5.5 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, a 13 MP front camera and has a storage capacity of up to 64 GB. The phone runs on a 3,100 mAh battery, which is often counted as one of the phone’s strongest features. If the price drop doesn’t convince you to buy the phone, maybe these specifications will.

Spec Battle: Lenovo K3 Note Vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G Vs Yu Yureka

Today, Lenovo launched its highly anticipated phablet, the K3 Note, at a launch event held in New Delhi. The company had teased ‘Note the Date’ clearly indicating that they had plans on releasing the K3 Note that was launched in China earlier this year.

In the previous post, we mentioned that the Note could go against the likes of Redmi Note 4G and the Yu Yureka. Let us see now, how the K3 Note fares against these well-established handsets:

As we can see above, Yu Yureka is leading out of the three, with its pricing. Almost every spec of the Yu Yureka is as same as the Redmi Note and the K3 Note, yet easier on the pocket. However, Lenovo’s new offering comes with a better display. Before making any bold statements we would like to get our hands on the K3 Note to see what this device is capable of.

  • Power Struggle: Xiaomi and OnePlus Play Tug of War

Power Struggle: Xiaomi and OnePlus Play Tug of War

These days if there is another gadget which is more sought after than a smartphone, it’s a powerbank. Since smartphone manufacturers have failed miserably at providing batteries that last more than a day, the powerbank industry is currently booming.

OnePlus and Xiaomi, two manufactures that entered the Indian market last year, recently launched their own battery packs in the country.  If you haven’t noticed, the young Chinese companies have kept an eye on each other. Their current flagships, the Mi4 and the One, both come with similar specifications and a similar price tag. So much so that the OnePlus One and Xiaomi Mi4 have even faced price cuts at the same time.

Now it seems like OnePlus and Xiaomi are playing the same game with their powerbanks.

OnePlus, after teasing their portable charger endlessly, finally brought it to India earlier this month. The charger provides 10,000mAh of power, can easily slip in your pocket and apparently charges the OnePlus One 3 times on a single charge. OnePlus introduced the power bank at an affordable price tag of Rs. 1,399.  Less than a month later, Xiaomi retaliated.

Yesterday, Xiaomi announced they’re bringing in the massive 16,000mAh external battery, priced same as OnePlus’ power bank, down to the last Rupee.

    xiaomi powerbank

Other than the amount of power they provide and their design, the two power banks are almost identical in features. Both feature two USB 2.0 ports and one Micro-USB port; both can charge two devices at the same time.  Since it’s an additional device you need to carry around, it is worth mentioning that the OnePlus power bank weighs 225g and the Xiaomi power bank weighs, 350g.

We have an inkling that the OnePlus powerbank may face a price cut within the next few weeks. Only time will tell how the company decides to play its cards – it’s time for their move.

  • Xiaomi Launches Internet Finance Unit to Compete with Alibaba and Tencent

Xiaomi Launches Internet Finance Unit to Compete with Alibaba and Tencent

The widely popular Chinese electronics manufacturer Xioami is making headway into the finance sector with the launch of a new product service. Termed as ‘Huoqi Bao’, the newly launched personal finance service will offer deposit rates higher than the traditional Chinese banks. The recently inaugurated financial unit by Xiaomi pits it against the big players in the online finance arena like Alibaba, Tencent and Baidu.

The China’s Apple has collaborated with a fund management company called E Fund Management that, as per Xiaomi, will expand into offering personal lending and security brokerage in the near future. The Huoqi Bao service will be accessible via an app bundled with Xiaomi’s operating system.

Xiaomi Co-Founder Hong Feng said in a statement –

We’re aiming to build a smart platform to help financial partners find high quality clients, while helping our users earn money and borrow money.

China’s two biggest internet companies, Tencent and Alibaba, have established themselves in such a short span of time. Xiaomi aims to follow the footprints of the firms and provide investors with higher growth rates and cash-on-demand service. As per Reuters report, the world’s third largest smartphone brand has recently “generated annualized returns on deposits of 4.5 percent.”

Alibaba’s financial arm Yu’E Bao was reported to have assets of worth 578 billion yuan ($93 billion) by end 2014. The E Fund Management is not exclusive to Xiaomi only and will also provide services to the Tencent’s Licaitong.

  • Xiaomi Fans Shouldn’t Expect a SD Card Slot on Future Flagships: Hugo Barra

Xiaomi Fans Shouldn’t Expect a SD Card Slot on Future Flagships: Hugo Barra

You must have noticed that high-end smartphones from Xiaomi doesn’t offer MicroSD card support, except the first-gen handset. Many top smartphone brands like HTC, LG, Samsung offer expandability option up to 128GB (which surprisingly Samsung decided to skip this time in the latest Galaxy S6 series), but the China-based electronics firm is against its inclusion on their handsets. Xiaomi’s Hugo Barra remarked that its devotees shouldn’t expect a SD card slot on the future flagships.

Xiaomi’s Vice President of International, Hugo Barra said in a statement –

For high performance devices, we are fundamentally against an SD card slot. It is a trend: SD cards will disappear. You should basically not expect SD card slots in any of our flagships.

He just didn’t make a statement but also backed his verdict on ditching SD card slots. According to Hugo, his team doesn’t want to sacrifice battery capacity and ergonomics for extended content storage. The microSD cards is of no good to the device and adversely affects the functionality of the phone. As per Hugo’s description microSD cards “are incredibly prone to failure and malfunctioning of various different sorts.”

140722-xiaomi-mi-band-05Explaining in fine detail how SD cards ruin the overall functionality of the phone –

You think you’re buying like a Kingston or a SanDisk but you’re actually not, and they’re extremely poor quality, they’re slow, they sometimes just stop working, and it gives people huge number of issues, apps crashing all the time, users losing data, a lot of basically complaints and customer frustration. It’s gonna be a while before you finally accept that maybe the reason why it’s not performing is because you put in an SD card, right? You’re gonna blame the phone, you’re gonna blame the manufacturer, you’re gonna shout and scream and try to get it fixed, so many different ways until you say, ‘Actually, let me just take the SD card out and see what happens.

From this, it can be concluded that the upcoming Xiaomi flagships will not have an option of removable battery too. Since removable back only sorts the purpose when you have to put a second card slot.

The lack of an SD card is not likely to create a stir in Xiaomi-ruled markets. The company releases smartphones with sufficient memory space, but for folks who choose lesser space handsets to add an SD card later will surely be disappointed. For now, Redmi series handsets sport expandability option.

There have been news of Xiaomi’s next flagship coming in two variants – Mi 5 And Mi 5 Plus. The latter one is, no doubt, inspired by Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus.

Along the new Mi 4i, Xiaomi introduced another much-desired product to the Indian market – the Mi Band. Xioami’s fitness band is one of the cheapest available in the market and helps keep a track of users’ sleep, workout and overall fitness. The company announced at the Global Mi 4i Premier that it will give away the Rs. 999 Mi Band for just Re. 1. The first 1,000 units of the tracking device are going up for sale, but massive number of people are registering to secure it.

Xiaomi claims that the Mi Band is a reliable activity tracker which offers a battery life of 30 days. Users can set alarms, get missed call notification right on their wrists. The water-proof band is IP-67 certified and works under water. It connects with both iOS and Android smartphones through Bluetooth 4.0 and a companion app.

As Xiaomi has kept the price negligible at Re. 1 for the Mi Band Preview, a massive crowd is sure to login the official Mi website. To be the lucky one, willing buyers will continually attempt to make a purchase, which will cause an unwanted onslaught of traffic. This will cause a problem for the rest of the buyers who wish to buy smartphones, power banks or other accessories. There might be chances of the website facing a temporary outage. The registrations started from April 28, and the sale will commence at 2pm on May 5.

In January, Xiaomi announced the Mi Note and the Mi Pro but did not reveal a successor to their victorious Mi 4, which came out last year in January. However, this can change as the new device, tentatively named as the ‘Mi 5’, may arrive this summer. Recently leaked photos reveal new details about the new phone.

The phone looks a lot like its predecessors in terms of its body design, only molded a bit more taller and thinner. Below are the alleged specs of the device.

The phone is expected to have a 5.2-inch QHD display, 4GB RAM and powered by a 2.7GHz Snapdragon 810 chipset. The rest of the rumoured specs include a 16MP primary camera, integrated with an Optical Image Stabilisation for steady shots, a fingerprint scanner via the handset’s button and a 3,000mAh battery. All these were tipped off by a Chinese blogger. If true, this will be a significant upgrade over the Mi 4.
