Dual cameras, a trend that started in 2016 in flagship phones trickled down to budget smartphones in 2017. In a sea of budget smartphones with identical specifications and price, which dual-camera phone should you buy this holiday season? iGyaan brings you its pick for the best budget dual-camera phones you can buy right now:

    Xiaomi Mi A1

One of the best budget phones to be launched in 2017, the Mi A1 combines Xiaomi’s hardware and Google’s stock Android OS in this perfectly priced budget phone.

The smartphone has a 5.5 inch 1920 x 1080 px display with Corning Gorilla Glass on top for protection and metal unibody build.

The phone has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, 2.0GHz octa-core processor, 4GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage which is expandable via microSD card. Handling the graphics under the hood is the Adreno 505 GPU. The pyrolytic graphite sheet will help in heat management as well, Xiaomi claims. The Xiaomi Mi A1 has an IR blaster to control appliances in your home or office. Powering the device is a 3,080 mAh battery and fast charging through the Type C port

The fingerprint sensor sits at the back of the device below the camera. Xiaomi has also included a dedicated headphone amplifier for better music listening experience.

The Mi A1 runs pure Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS and thanks to Android One program, the Mi A1 will get software to Android 8.0 Oreo and Android P as well.

It’s worth noting that despite the stock Android OS, Xiaomi has still introduced a few apps of its own like the Mi Camera app, since Google’s app doesn’t support dual-camera right now. Other apps like the Mi Remote and the Mi Store are also present in the Xiaomi Mi A1.

In terms of optics, the smartphone features a 12MP dual-camera setup with 1.25-micron pixel size. The rear cameras capture videos in 4K at 30 FPS and the front camera records videos in 1080P at 30 FPS.  According to Motorola, additional features such as Night Display and Quick Reply enhance the software experience. The implementation of the dual-camera setup on the Moto G5S Plus is different than that on the Mi A1.

    Lenovo K8 Note

The Lenovo K8 Note features a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 px display with a pixel density of 441ppi and a Corning Gorilla Glass with oleophobic coating for scratch and smudge resistance.

The K8 Note is also splash resistant due to its P2i coating, although the resistance might decrease with time due to wear and tear of the nano coating. The fingerprint sensor sits at the back of the device under the cameras.

The camera UI will also feature a stock Android layout with no customisation offered by Lenovo apart from the depth mode.

This is the only smartphone on this list which has four cameras. The rear of the phone contains a 16 MP main sensor and a 2 MP secondary sensor, while the front has a 13 MP camera and another 2 MP secondary sensor.  A fingerprint sensor is placed at the back of the phone since the phone has thin bezels and no physical button at the front of the phone.

The Moto X4 looks and feels different from the Motorola phones launched in recent years. The device has a glass front and back which gives it a very premium look but, it also means that the phone will attract fingerprints. The dual camera at the back protrudes a little but, it is not that prominent and thanks to the presence of Corning Gorilla Glass, the camera glass won’t get scratched up easily.

Thanks to the curved glass at the back, the phone is extremely comfortable to hold in the hand and is also very grippy unlike phones with a matte finish.

The moment you switch on the Moto X4, you will notice why Motorola phones have been so successful over the years. The company’s commitment to stick with stock Android OS shines on the Moto X4, too as the phone is very responsive and day to day tasks are a breeze. The camera on the Moto X4 is also much improved with some tweaks and new features.

The Moto X4 is powered by a 3000 mAh battery with TurboCharge capabilities. The company claims that the 15 mins of charge can give up to 6 hours of talk time.

The Moto X4 is the only smartphone in this price bracket that has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.

Like every Motorola phone, the Moto X4 runs stock Android 7.1.2 Nougat. Motorola recently announced that the Moto X4 will receive an update to Android 8.0 Oreo by the end of the year.

The new smartphone will also feature Alexa, the Amazon AI voice assistant, when Alexa officially launches in India. This isn’t the first time that Alexa has made its way onto a smartphone, the Huawei Mate 9 was the first smartphone to feature the voice assistant. Since then, we have also seen Alexa make its way to the HTC U11. The 4 in Moto X4 signifies that the new smartphone will be able to share the sound with up to 4 devices, thanks to the presence of Bluetooth 5.0.

The Moto X4 has a dual-camera setup at the back. The main camera is a 12MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, and the 8MP secondary camera with an f/2.2 aperture is equipped with a wide-angle lens. Unboxing The Xiaomi Mi Note 3

The Xiaomi Mi Note 3 was launched in China on the 11th of September at a starting price of CNY 2,899 (Rs. 28,300 approx.). The Mi Note 3 succeeds the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 which was launched in 2016 with a fair amount of upgrades. Let’s unbox the Mi Note 3 and see what we get inside:

The Xiaomi Mi Note 3 looks premium. It has a glossy finish to the curved back and the dual-cameras do not have a bump. The phone is very slippery and hence, we recommend that you use the soft cover that Xiaomi provides in the box.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 3 has a 5.5 inch 1920 x 1080 px IPS LCD display with a pixel density of 403ppi and a 94.4 percent NTSC colour gamut.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi Mi Note 3 has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, Adreno 512 GPU, 6GB RAM, and 64GB or 128GB onboard storage options. The onboard storage can not be expanded. Unlike the Mi Mix 2, the Mi Note 3 features a dual-camera setup at the back. The primary 12MP camera has a wide angle lens and an f/1.8 aperture and the secondary 12MP camera has a telephoto lens with an f/2.6 aperture. • Unboxing The Google Pixel 2

    Unboxing The Google Pixel 2

Google launched the next iteration of its flagship Pixel smartphone lineup, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL on the 4th of October during a launch event at the Google HQ. The most interesting aspect of the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2XL is the tight integration of its software, hardware and AI. Google talked a lot about the importance of AI in the future and how the new devices take advantage of the Google Assistant. We have the smaller sibling of the two, the Google Pixel 2 with us which starts at a price of Rs 61000 in India for the 64GB storage variant. Let’s unbox it and see what we get inside:

    • Google Pixel 2
    • Sim ejector tool
    • Documentation
    • USB C to 3.5mm jack converter
    • USB C cable
    • Wall charger

The launch of the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL has been marred by the glaring issues with the smartphone’s display. However, most of the complaints have been directed towards the Pixel 2 XL for its pOLED panel.

The Google Pixel 2 has a 5 inch 1920 x 1080 px AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top for protection. Powering the device is a 2700 mAh battery and it runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. As is with with every Google phone, the new Pixel 2 will be first in line to receive Android P update in 2018. Under the hood, the device has typical 2017 flagship specifications. It has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, 2.4GHz octa-core processor, Adreno 540, 4GB RAM and 64GB/128GB onboard storage. The fingerprint sensor sits at the back of the device but, this time around the “glass window” is smaller. The two-tone colour of the phone is also reminiscent of the original Pixel from 2016. Google claims that the fingerprint sensor is the fastest on a smartphone. The Pixel 2 is water resistant as well.

Google has decided to go for a single camera setup similar to last year’s Pixel phones. The rear-facing camera is a 12.2 MP sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and 1.4 micron pixel size. On the front is an 8MP camera with an f/2.4 aperture. Google has introduced new features in the camera department like the addition of AR. You’ll be able to add 3D characters and emoji into photos and videos and see them move around as you’re capturing the scene. That includes things like a sleepy coffee cup, but also some recognisable characters. Google is going to be partnering with third parties to add in some famous faces. This year, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL use a technology called “dual-pixel” which divides every pixel into two.
