    28 November 2011

ARM® Development Studio 5 Community Edition helps Android™ application developers create native software that can run up to 4 times faster than Java code.

Cambridge, UK – 28th November 2011 – ARM today announced the release of the ARM® Development Studio 5 (DS-5™) Community Edition (CE) – a free-to-use edition of its reference software development toolkit. The new edition is dedicated to the Android application developer community and helps them create native software for compute intensive tasks that can run up to 4 times faster than Java code. DS-5 CE complements the standard SDK and NDK Android development kits by offering developers a unique set of tools to help them achieve the performance and energy-efficiency advantages made possible when ARM native code is used in Android applications.

DS-5 Community Edition includes limited, but essential functionality from the premium DS-5 toolkit to help solve common Android application developer pain points. It achieves this by providing an integrated graphical debugger for NDK-generated code and visibility of advanced processor information, including ARM NEON™ Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) registers. The new toolkit permits development of Java and C/C++ code in the same Eclipse integrated development environment (IDE) to maximise productivity and ease of use.

DS-5 Community Edition features a tailored version of the ARM Streamline™ Performance Analyzer for use with compatible Android development platforms. Streamline captures detailed, system-wide performance statistics from a variety of sources which helps developers to locate hotspots in their code and isolate potential causes. Platform builders can add support for Streamline by integrating an open source driver available from the Linaro website.

“With over half a million apps on the Android market today, developers need to deliver an outstanding user experience to succeed commercially,” said John Cornish, executive vice president and general manager, system design division, ARM. “ARM DS-5 Community Edition offers developers an easy to use environment for debugging and optimizing C/C++ code. This allows them to take full advantage of ARM processor technology using native code to deliver the performance and functionality that consumers demand.”

    Partner Quotes:

“We have been using DS-5 extensively for system level debugging and performance tuning”, said Duan ZhiQiang, CTO, Thundersoft. “With the release of the Community Edition, it will enable our ISV and IHV partners to access similar capabilities, improving our platform as an application development target and expanding its ecosystem.”

“The community edition of DS-5 (DS-5 CE) will further reduce the barriers to open source development on ARM. We have worked closely with ARM to ensure that DS-5 support is available as an easy to install add-on for Linaro Ubuntu images in the past and are working together to deliver a similar convenient developer experience for DS-5 CE as part of our Android images”, said Alexander Sack, Platform Technical Director, Linaro. “This initiative will help users of the community edition take full advantage of Linaro optimized images.”

“The release of ARM DS-5 Community Edition is welcomed by Orange and solves some of the pain points of Android native apps developers”, said Yves Christol, Head of Advanced Software Centre, Devices, Orange.

    Availability

The DS-5 CE is available free-of-charge for use by individuals and organizations with annual revenue of $100,000 or less, and up to 10 employees. DS-5 CE is available from ARM and can be downloaded now. For more information go to:

Bring Siri dictation to your favorite iDevice – Jailbreak and Siri0us required

A new package for jailbreak friendly iDevices has been released that enables Siri dictation on the iPhone 4 / 3GS and all those that run a Jailbroken iOS 5. The package is available to be downloaded from a repo that uses Siri Api (without permission) to connect to the servers that the speech recognition company hosts for apps instead. This method will allow only dictation on the iPhone and not Siri itself. We have a feeling that the package might be removed soon so get it before it goes.

MCAFEE LABS EXAMINES THREAT LANDSCAPE IN LATEST EDITION

    OF THE “SECURITY JOURNAL”

McAfee and Security Industry Thought Leaders Outline the “Quantum Leap” in Security, Data, and Privacy Concerns

India, November 17,2011 – McAfee today announced the 2011 edition of McAfee Security Journal, a publication designed to inform security executives and technical personnel on cutting-edge topics to help them make better-informed security decisions. The Journal, now in its seventh edition, comprises in-depth articles from McAfee Labs researchers and security thought leaders. It examines the future of information security as it pertains to interconnected technologies, recent acts of cyberespionage, the rise in hacktivism, and increasingly sophisticated malware such as Stuxnet and Duqu.

“As security experts, we need to be leaders in understanding what the next-generation threats are,” said Vincent Weafer, senior vice president of McAfee Labs. “Technologies are more interconnected than ever before, and that has led to new types of security threats and data and privacy concerns. As new platforms gain traction and visibility at the attacker level, now is the time to examine these threats and inform organizations and individuals on how they can protect themselves.”

This edition of the Journal, “Security beyond the Desktop,” is based on articles compiled by international experts who issue an urgent “call to arms” to the security industry. No longer is a defensive posture sufficient to protect the ubiquitous devices and data of today’s digital world. Instead of defensive methods being installed on computers, in networks, and in the cloud, there is an urgent need to “step back,” to take a broader look at security, and to take preemptive measures. The report’s authors say now is the time to avoid enemy attacks altogether by taking a more inclusive stance, looking both inside and outside the network.

The report details the following highlights on the evolution of cyberthreats and the need for a more inclusive security strategy:

      • The human link: There is an ever-widening disparity between the sophistication of a network and the people who use them. Cybercriminals often use social engineering toolkits to exploit unsuspecting employees when direct attacks on an organization’s defenses fail. Educating employees on secure practices is not enough; organizations need to install the proper framework to empower and encourage employees to use these secure practices.

      • Mobile is everywhere: Mobile attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated every year. Instead of rendering the device unusable, hackers are now finding ways to steal sensitive personal data to exploit. Additionally, hackers are broadening their target range to include other, more uncommon mobile systems, such as the GPS system in a car.

      • Cloud-based apps are on the rise: The popularity of cloud-based applications has made them an attractive target for hackers and other cybercriminals. However, the cloud is also a highly efficient way to scale security and protection for a business. Leveraged correctly, the cloud both helps reduce your security costs and can actually increase your overall security posture and protection.

      • Data is king: Whether stored on a smartphone, in the cloud, or on a network, data is what cybercriminals seek. Taking the proper precautions to secure this often ubiquitous data is a crucial step for many organizations.

      • Learn from previous mistakes: History is a great teacher for those who take the time to study it. Analytics help identify patterns, vulnerabilities, and even motives. Understanding any of these concepts can help prevent attacks in the future.

Experts in the report are McAfee Labs researchers, as well as Chris Roberts, founder and Chief Geek of One World Labs, Jayson Street, author of Dissecting the Hack, andDavid Kennedy, creator of The Social Engineering Toolkit. All these experts agree that the recommendations laid out in the report are preliminary, and these are just the first steps that need to be taken industry wide.

A new twist of development has taken place in porting Siri to other Apple devices. A new exploit found would allow users that already own a iPhone 4S to enjoy the exploits of Siri on other iDevices. Sure a unique identifier could be formed but Apple would easily find it and ban it for abuse.

The best thing here is that this may actually hold possibility for Siri to be ported over to Android and other platforms. But the situation will always remain same. You will need an identified for the software to work with Apple’s servers.

Adobe Reaffirms Fourth Quarter FY2011 Revenue Target, Restructures to Align Business around Digital Media, Digital Marketing
    For immediate release

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Nov. 8, 2011 – Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today provided a business update for its fourth quarter fiscal year 2011, ending Dec. 2, 2011. The company also announced plans to further align its business around the explosive growth categories of Digital Media and Digital Marketing solutions.

Adobe Restructures to Align Business around Growth Opportunities
Adobe is investing aggressively in Digital Media and Digital Marketing, two growing market areas. In Digital Media, the company is the industry leader in content authoring solutions, enabling customers to create, distribute and monetize digital content. In Digital Marketing, the company intends to be the leader in solutions to manage, measure and optimize digital marketing and advertising.

In order to better align resources around Digital Media and Digital Marketing, Adobe is restructuring its business. This will result in the elimination of approximately 750 full-time positions primarily in North America and Europe. We expect to record in the aggregate approximately $87 million to $94 million in pre-tax restructuring charges. Included in these charges are (i) approximately $17 million to $19 million primarily related to the consolidation of leased facilities and (ii) approximately $70 million to $75 million related to employee severance arrangements. We expect to record approximately $73 million to $78 million of these charges in the fiscal quarter ending Dec. 2, 2011.

See separate release issued today for more information regarding the company’s strategy and goals with its business realignment.

Adobe Reaffirms Fourth Quarter FY2011 Revenue Target Range
With approximately four weeks remaining in the quarter, the company believes it will achieve fourth quarter revenue within the $1.075 billion to $1.125 billion range it previously provided on Sept. 20, 2011.

“We expect to report record revenue within the fourth quarter target range we previously issued,” said Mark Garrett, executive vice president and CFO of Adobe.

Based on the impact of the restructuring charge discussed above that the company expects to take in the fourth quarter, Adobe updated its targeted GAAP diluted earnings per share range to be $0.30 to $0.38 in the quarter. The company had previously targeted a fourth quarter diluted earnings per share range of $0.41 to $0.50 on a GAAP basis.

Adobe continues to target a diluted earnings per share range of $0.57 to $0.64 on a non-GAAP basis in the fourth quarter. A reconciliation between the company’s GAAP and non-GAAP financial targets is provided at the end of this press release.

Adobe plans to report its fourth quarter results on Dec. 15, 2011 after the market closes.

Adobe to Outline Growth Strategy at Financial Analyst Meeting

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov 08, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Adobe Systems Incorporated ADBE -9.04% will host a Financial Analyst Meeting tomorrow in New York, where company executives will outline its strategy to target the explosive growth categories of Digital Media and Digital Marketing and its plans to drive long-term revenue growth. Adobe will also comment on its business update for its fourth quarter, ending Dec. 2, 2011. See separate release.

Company Focuses on Digital Media, Digital Marketing Opportunities

Moving forward, Adobe will offer customers the ability to make, manage, measure and monetize content and applications across all devices. The company has long been the leader in content authoring solutions with its Adobe Creative Suite(R) product franchise. Its Digital Media growth strategy revolves around its recently announced Creative Cloud and will enable the company to rapidly deliver new product capabilities and services; penetrate untapped market segments; and increase overall engagement with customers. Important elements include:

    — Continuing to deliver innovation on PCs through its Creative Suite software while extending its customer reach through tablet-based touch apps and Cloud-based software delivery

    — Shifting resources to support even greater investment in HTML5, through tools like Adobe(R) Dreamweaver, Adobe Edge and PhoneGap, recently added through the acquisition of Nitobi

    — Focusing Flash resources on delivering the most advanced PC web experiences, including gaming and premium video, as well as mobile apps

    — Enhancing digital publishing solutions to empower media companies to profit through publishing their content to any screen

    — Investing in media monetization, including the large growth opportunity in video advertising, facilitated by the acquisition of Auditude announced last week

    — Extending its leadership in document services with its Acrobat product line and increasing its focus on the growing category of electronic contracts and signatures through the recent acquisition of EchoSign

While Adobe’s Digital Media business centers on content creation and publishing, its Digital Marketing business is focused on enabling customers to maximize the impact of their digital experiences across devices and media types. Adobe’s Digital Marketing growth agenda is focused on becoming a mission-critical solution provider and partner to marketers. Key elements include:

    — Extending Adobe’s leadership in analytics and reporting to drive rapid growth in new areas like mobile and social

    — Personalizing digital experiences across all digital channels, ensuring that customers can deliver the most relevant, customized content in real time

    — Driving multichannel campaign management, enabling marketers to make informed decisions about all aspects of a marketing campaign, from search to email to display advertising

    — Accelerating media monetization solutions for content publishers by enabling them to segment their audiences and maximize their advertising revenue, leveraging the company’s acquisitions of Demdex and Auditude this year

“Our mission is to produce the world’s content and maximize the impact of that content,” said Shantanu Narayen, Adobe president and CEO. “Adobe is doubling down in the Digital Media and Digital Marketing categories, markets rich with opportunities for innovation and growth.”

Company Unlocks Potential for Higher Revenue Growth

Moving into FY2012, Adobe will focus its research and development and sales and marketing investments on these two opportunities. In Digital Media, the company expects to attract new customers and increase recurring revenue through its new subscription offering. In order to drive increased Digital Marketing bookings, which are recognized as recurring revenue, the company will reduce its investment, and expected license revenue, in certain enterprise solution product lines. These changes will reduce FY2012 revenue growth by approximately four to five percentage points. As a result, the company expects annual revenue growth of approximately four to six percent in FY2012. However, the company expects non-GAAP operating margins in FY2012 to be similar to those it will achieve in FY2011. Beyond FY2012, the company anticipates double-digit revenue growth with an increasing percentage of recurring revenue.

“We believe that by focusing resources on two large initiatives and shifting our business model, we can drive faster and more predictable growth in FY2013 and beyond,” said Mark Garrett, Adobe executive vice president and CFO.

Company executives will discuss more details about Adobe’s growth potential and business model adjustments at tomorrow’s Financial Analyst Meeting.

Adobe to Webcast Its 2011 Financial Analyst Meeting in New York

Adobe will provide a live webcast of its Financial Analyst Meeting tomorrow.

The live video webcast will last approximately seven hours. • Google is scared of Siri says Eric Schmidt

Google is scared of Siri says Eric Schmidt

Google’s Eric Schmidttold a Senate subcommittee recently that he believes Apple’s Siri technology poses a threat to Google in the search market.

As I noted this past June, my statement last September was clearly wrong. The Internet is dynamic and has changed significantly. The importance of social networking to consumers’ online experience has changed remarkably-even over the past year. Consumers are looking for answers when they conduct searches online, and social search has become a serious competitor in helping people find those answers online. Similarly, Apple’s Siri is a significant development-a voice-activated means of accessing answers through iPhones that demonstrates the innovations in search. The tech industry is one of the most competitive and dynamic spaces in the entire economy, with small companies as well as larger companies competing hardagainst each other in lots of areas. Google has many strong competitors and we sometimes fail to anticipate
the competitive threat posed by new methods of accessing information. We compete against a broader arrayof companies than most people realize, including general search engines.

    -Eric Schmidt

Eric Schmidt was answering questions posed in the Antitrust hearing, acknowledging that fact that Siri is a hugely viable competitor as a search engine.

The Microsoft Internet explorer has been the most popular browser since forever, it still is. But its share has rapidly dipped from the 95% high seven years ago to around 50% and dipping. The market is more attuned now to using new age browsers like Chrome and Firefox, which are much more flexible to the users needs. According to  Net Marketshare’s latest report the browser has dipped to its all time low and is expected to dip further by the end of the year. The browser is still the highest used, but the gap is quickly decreasing with Firefox now owning 23% and Chrome sustaining a large 19% chunk of the market pie.

There are no details as to when this will happen, or how, since most are still awaiting the 2.3 version of the LG firmware.

“[LG Official Statements on Ice Cream Sandwich OS Update]
LG firmly denies the rumors that claim LG will not be providing the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS update for the LG Optimus 2X. These rumors are NOT true. LG is currently in the process of planning the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X as well as other LG high-end smartphones. Detailed information on the ICS OS update schedule for specific models will be announced, once the ICS OS is publicly released by Google. Please stay tuned for more updates from LG.
    Thank you very much.”
