  • Samsung Galaxy S8 May Feature A Screen Ratio of Over 90%

Samsung Galaxy S8 May Feature A Screen Ratio of Over 90%

After the pullback from the Galaxy Note 7, Samsung is hard at work making the next flagship which may launch sooner than expected. The Samsung’s Galaxy S8’s claim to fame and revival of the brand may depend on new exciting smartphone features, and to do that Samsung may feature a flexible OLED display with a Screen to body ratio of over 90%.

Samsung Display would roll out a full-screen display whose display area ratio reaches more than 90 % next year -Samsung Display principal engineer Park Wong-sang

Samsung engineers claim that soon they will be able to add sensors in parts of the display making the ratio increase up to 99%.

During his presentation, Park Wong-sang also showed a concept image of a Galaxy S7 Edge with a full screen lacking a home button on the bottom of the screen, saying the edge-to-edge display would allow almost all sensors, such as the fingerprint sensor, to be built under the screen.

Apple is reportedly already working on an all glass design for the next iPhone, which in all possibility could be manufactured by Samsung.

Samsung may also push its launch cycles of its Galaxy S8 smartphone from late February near Mobile World Congress to early January to launch the handset around CES to make up for time lost during the Galaxy Note 7 recall and sales halt.

  • iPhone 8 May Have Wireless Charging And Full OLED Display

iPhone 8 May Have Wireless Charging And Full OLED Display

According to a new report Apple manufacturer Foxconn is already testing the iPhone 8’s wireless charging technology. Something which may be exclusive to the premium variant iPhones.  According to the report Apple may finally be working on the Long Range Wireless charging that was seen in Apple’s patent filing many years ago.

More news has suggested that the iPhone 8 will come in place of the iPhone 7s which would according to refresh cycles launch next year. However, in order to make a big impact for the redesign and 10 years of iPhone, the iPhone 8 moniker will be used.

Apple is said to be working on a new design of the iPhone 8 that will feature an all glass front removing the physical button and reducing the bezels significantly much like the Xiaomi MIX. However, Apple will continue to keep the earpiece and front facing camera in the top region and will put the fingerprint scanner behind the display.

Previous leaks have pointed to Apple bringing back an all glass design, which would be a single piece of glass folded from front to back, alternatively Apple has shown that they are able to make ceramic casing with the Apple Watch series 2 and is possible to make an iPhone with a ceramic back.

OnePlus 3T To Have Snapdragon 821 Upto 128 GB Storage and Dual Cameras

OnePlus may be working on a dual camera phone of their own. The OnePlus 3T hit the rumour mill a few days back however, information has been scanty. Reports of a Snapdragon 821 chipset have emerged from various sources and one of the OnePlus designers has posted on their Weibo account using the device.

The OnePlus 3t comes after reports that OnePlus has stopped the 3’s production and is working towards a new device due to unavailability of the AMOLED displays. Carl Pei, the company’s founder claimed that AMOLED is the way ahead via a tweet, but the reality of manufacturing for sustained periods may be limited due to stock availability.  However the OnePlus 3t is expected to continue the Optic AMOLED display along with storage options up to 128 GB.

Rumours that the company is working on a dual camera phone may also tie in with the OnePlus 3t, or could be for a separate device all together. OnePlus will retain the unibody design that everyone has appreciated and also the Dash Charge capability.

  • The Government Will Soon Ask WhatsApp and Gmail To Store and Share Data

The Government Will Soon Ask WhatsApp and Gmail To Store and Share Data

In a move that goes against all norms of public privacy and modern moral sense, the Government of India is making plans to ask intermediary services like Gmail, WhatsApp, Snapchat and even Flipkart and Amazon to not only retain sensitive and private user information but also to share with the Government as per requests raised.

This amendment will be made into the Section 67C of the Information Technology Act of India by a committee  that has been working on this for a while.  According to this new rule, put initially into motion in 2008, all electronic companies operating in India will require to follow the govt. rules which will spell out what type of data has to be stored, in which format, and for how long. Meaning it should be stored in a specific archaic format set by the Government in 2008.

Not only will this be an invasion of privacy, but should this data leak or get hacked, it will be a huge social, private, public and central Government security risk, also a major risk to high profile individuals and companies who use these services daily.

Using Apple’s example, the committee stated on the matter:

Even if it is for national security reasons, how much are these companies answerable to the Indian security establishment? And we do know how Apple refused to unlock the phone even for FBI.

The implementation of such services may not technically be possible in certain cases, where WhatsApp encrypts chats with 256 bit hex while Snapchat never stores informations beyond seconds. This may either lead to huge resistance of the bill or general shutdown of services used by modern India.

While the Government is still mixed on how and why the data needs to be stored, the problem for how long is what may take more of a biting, the Department of Telecommunications required data to be stored for 6 months, the Registrar of Companies mandates for one year and income-tax for seven years.

Security is important, however, privacy and freedom of citizens is important too Click to Share

Either way, we all should be aware of the consequences of government data storage, a bill that is nearly a decade old, and policies that could send the growth trajectory of Modern India spiralling down. While national security is important, privacy and freedom of citizens is important too. At the end how much policing, is too much ?

  • Samsung Will Dispose The Note 7 Not Refurbish Them

Samsung Will Dispose The Note 7 Not Refurbish Them

Samsung has confirmed that they will be putting the Note 7 to rest the old fashioned way. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 units will be completely disposed off, as it seems Samsung wants no reminder of its failings. Samsung has already adjusted its quarterly estimates to account for  $2 billion in losses.

The reality is that, short of Apple’s new recycling initiatives, smartphones are not really recycled. They end up in landfills causing huge environmental damage. Samsung has in all manufactured over 2 million Note 7s, and inefficient manufacturing along with no plans of smartphone recycling  make the difficult-to-mine rare earth elements, like gold, silver, copper, platinum and aluminium among other components irrecoverable.

    Note 7 hands on 19

Now those with interest in mining phones should start hunting up dumping grounds where Samsung will lay the Note 7 to rest, however, it it is anything like Atari’s story, they might just show up in the future.
