  • Facebook Announces New ‘Safety Check’ Feature to Help Communicate During Disasters

Facebook Announces New ‘Safety Check’ Feature to Help Communicate During Disasters

Facebook has introduced Safety Check, a brand new feature that people can use when major disasters occur, a simple and effective way to say you’re safe and check on others during times when communication becomes a necessity. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced this feature in Tokyo, in lieu of the great earthquake and Tsunami that hit Japan a few years ago. The calamity inspired Facebook to build the first version of this feature for Japan, and now this feature is available worldwide.

During a disaster, the Safety Check feature helps users to inform their friends and family that they are safe, users can also check on others in the affected region and can even mark their friends as safe.

    facebook-fans

    How does it work?

The safety feature works when it is activated after a natural disaster has occurred and if a user is in the vicinity of the affected area, he/she will receive a Facebook notification asking if they’re safe. Facebook will then automatically determine their location by the user’s last location and the city where the user is using the Internet.

If Facebook determines the wrong location, users can mark that they are outside the vicinity of the affected area. Meanwhile if they are safe, they can select ‘I am safe’ and a notification and a News Feed story will generate automatically with the user’s friends. Even friends can mark a user as safe.

Even if users have friends in the affected area and the tool has been activated, they will receive a notification about those friends that have marked themselves as safe. To understand the features better, check out the video below:

Tablet Spec Battle: Nexus 9 vs Galaxy Tab S vs iPad Mini vs Z3 Tablet

Tablets have in recent past gone from an aspirational device to a second fiddle to the desktop and smartphone. With more and more phones going big screen, it seems like the tablet market is being pushed back. But that hasn’t stopped the makers from introducing new generation tablets with evolved features. Tablets are also great portable multimedia devices, and the tablet market has become more interesting this year.

Google has unveiled its latest tablet offering, the Nexus 9, made in collaboration with HTC. The tablet flaunts some impressive features at a comparatively low price and is touted to give the other giants a run for their money. Nexus 9 surely flexes its muscle on paper as its specs are impressive. Though what really lacks is the absence of  expandable storage. With a good display and a strong processor such as this one, expandable storage would have made it more appealing. Now that Apple is ready to launch the 3rd-gen iPad Mini tonight, we’ll get to see how Apple manages to take on Google’s native tablet. The game is still on.

With the launch of Google’s Nexus 9, the world has seen the crème de la crème of what the smartphone industry has to offer. This year turned out to be the best year in technology. Not only did we reach the highest specifications yet but were even able to bring those specs to lower-priced devices. Now that the biggest giants have unveiled their flagship competitors, it is time to test their spec-sheet might in comparison to each other.

This is a purely spec based battle and will not take in consideration the optimization and other software features. So let’s get ahead to check out how the innards of these legendary devices score in a face off against each other.

With this table, one can easily see the Nexus throwing a heavy claim to the throne. Not only does it come with great specifications, it also comes with the Android Lollipop which is the most efficient Android OS yet. The phone also sports Motorola’s unique ring flash which sets it apart from the rest. For a multimedia enthusiast, the Nexus 6 makes complete sense with its front facing speakers and gigantic display. However it misses out on expandable storage and added features like timelapse and slow motion camera which irks because those features could have been easily incorporated.

Nexus 6 faces its most toughest challenge from its own cousin. The rumored Moto X Plus will take the features from this device and add more features to the device. There is still a lot to look forward to in the future.

Apple Leaks the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 just ahead of Tomorrows Launch

Call it a co-incidence, a mistake or a planned move, but just after Google’s hot Nexus 9 announcement, Apple’s updated User Guide for iOS 8.1 has leaked and in it are details of the next iPads. Yes the new iPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini 3, but no, you do not get any juicy information except the fact that both the new tablets will get a tTouchID sensor in place of the home button and thats about all the information you get in this leak.

Everything else is just a bunch of screenshots showing of the OS, and the new improved features. However you put it, in an attempt to out do each other, Google announced the Nexus line up a day earlier to the big Apple announcement, and Apple leaked the documents right after the launches. The tech giants need to curb their enthusiasm if they want our brains to rest easy.

The Book has been pulled from the App Store (See source link), but not before some folks downloaded it, and the website link below still has the screens.
