Apple Reveals a Lightning To SD Card Reader For the iPad Pro

Apple has created yet another accessory and this time it is for the USB 3.0 port on the Apple iPad Pro. This Lightning to SD Card Reader, which is available at Apple’s online store, will allow the user to transfer media directly from their digital camera to the iPad Pro at USB 3 speeds. This device will also allow you to transfer data from other Apple iPad models and iPhones at USB 2 speeds.

The accessory that costs $29 will allow you to transfer data ten times faster than USB 2.0 and supports images using JPEG and RAW. To add to that, it also works on SD and HD video formats. How this works is, once you microSD card from your camera is inserted into the card reader, the Photo app on your iPhone or iPad will automatically open. These Photos are divided into Moments, Collections, and Years that you can store in the iCloud and limit those who can view your data with iCloud Photo sharing.

Apart from this accessory Apple had also just revealed a Smart Battery Case for iPhone’s battery issues and now this. Looks like Apple is recognizing its faults and making amends before anybody else does.

ASUS Launches an Affordable LED Flash Phone Accessory in India

Venturing away from smartphones, ASUS today announced the arrival of interesting accessories in India. They’ve added ‘LolliFlash’ and ‘ZenEars’ to their Indian portfolio, priced at Rs. 899 and Rs. 699 respectively.

Talking about the LolliFlash first, the accessory is a Dual-LED flashlight for smartphones. It slots into a device’s headphone socket and is perfect for adding the much-needed flash light for night time or low light selfies. The LolliFlash provides three brightness levels and a 70 degree beam.

What’s slightly disconcerting about the device is that it requires charging. The company claims that one full charge provides a 3-hour battery life. The accessory works with any device with a 3.5mm headphone jack. The portable device comes with three colour filters as well – white, blue and red.

Next, Asus introduced the ZenEars, which are earphones. The company claims that they fit perfectly into the user’s ears and effectively absorb reflected sound, reducing distortion and restore more music details. It consists of a patented damping system and transmission tube designed to deliver crystal clear and detailed sound.

Both accessories are available starting today.

  • Moto ‘Skip’ is a Tiny Accessory That Will Help You Find Your Smartphone

Moto ‘Skip’ is a Tiny Accessory That Will Help You Find Your Smartphone

Remember Skip? The petite accessory by Motorola that lets you bypass your phone’s lock screen entirely and “skip” the step of entering a passcode or pattern to use your phone. It was introduced last year alongside Moto X. And now, the word is Motorola is working on the second version of ‘Skip’ which is said to be more useful than its predecessor.

    moto-skip

According to new filings at the FCC, the next version of the Skip will use Bluetooth instead of NFC and will become more mature from just being a quick access key to your smartphone. The updated version of Skip will also be capable of helping you locate your misplaced keys if the device is attached to your keychain.

    moto-skip1-440x220

    moto-skip3-440x220

It works the other way round too, double-pressing the power button will make your nearby Android phone ring so it’s easier to locate. This could prove to be of huge help if you’re one of those who always loses their phone. It is pointed out that Motorola is also working on an app which will be available for all Android devices, through which  you’ll be able to see where your Skip was last connected.

    moto-skip2

When you get within the range of finding it, Skip will start beeping to help your search. According to Motorola’s user manual, the small device will last about a year on a single battery, and it relies on Bluetooth to pull off most of its functionality.

No information has been made available in terms of pricing or availability. It is said that the probabilities are high that we will see this device at the September 4th event where we expect Moto X+1 and Moto G2 to launch.

  • HTC Mini Companion Device Coming To The UK With Added Functionality

HTC Mini Companion Device Coming To The UK With Added Functionality

With its tiny, low-resolution and non-touch-enabled screen with monochromatic icons, the HTC Mini could pass off as a feature phone. But HTC is not taking off in a new direction because the Mini is actually a phone add-on for your smartphone(accessory).

Introduced as an accessory for the HTC Butterfly earlier this year in China, It was assumed that the HTC Mini is meant to be able to do simple tasks like to make calls and check text messages, all without any need to take your smartphone out of your pocket. HTC calls it an “enhanced Bluetooth accessory” that can be used as a remote control while your smartphone is being charged or connected to a TV.

As per cnet asia the device is made of plastic with a brushed metal-like finish, the Mini is lightweight and just as sleek-looking. However, its plastic build doesn’t reflect the same premium and industrial feel of the One, but is more reminiscent of the Butterfly’s back cover.

    htcmini_sc

HTC says this device can be connected to HTC devices with Bluetooth and NFC, the HTC Mini has remote capabilities, letting you take control of your smartphone from a distance of around 10m. For example, fire up the camera app on your HTC One and the Mini has the ability to capture photos remotely. This will be useful in reducing camera shake, in case you want to do a timed shot or timelapse video.

To view your photos and videos in the gallery, you can use presentation mode to move forward or backward. This presentation mode also works with Powerpoint slides in the pre-installed Office app

    htcmini_3

One would also be able to control the music with this device,Reject or Answer calls and  if you have Sense TV set up on your One, you get basic volume and channel controls for your TV set.

    htcmini_4

In Singapore, the HTC Mini comes bundled with the One when you sign up for a two-year contract at some telecoms. It’s not sold separately as an accessory.

Now, if you think to use the Mini with non-HTC phones, you’re out of luck. While you would be able to pair it via Bluetooth, usage is limited to the headset function, so you will only be able to receive or reject calls. And since the HTC Mini doesn’t have a SIM card slot, it can’t work on its own.

Mercedes Benz offering new Illuminated 3-pointed Star Accessory

Mercedes Benz has offered the 3-pointed star on their vehicles for decades, and it has now evolved into a symbol which goes beyond the idea of brand recognition. The 3-pointed star has come to stand for a guarantee of excellence for the customers of the German manufacturer, one which every Mercedes Benz owner would flaunt with pride.

Well, now Mercedes Benz is making it easier for owners to flaunt their cars with a new accessory. An illuminated 3-pointed star emblem will now be available in a number of Mercedes Benz vehicles including the 2006+ CLS-Class, 2012+ M-Class, 2013+ GL-Class and the 2014 E-Class. A dealer-fitted option, the accessory utilises LED and light tube technology to light up the 3-pointed star in the radiator grille of the car when the car is unlocked, its engine is turned off or its doors or trunk are opened – remaining on for 15 seconds. It does not work while the car is being driven.

If this accessory takes off, expect other OEMs to come up with something similar for their cars soon. Is the illuminated 3-point star accessory cool and classy, or too blingy and garish? Let us know in the comments section.

  • 6x Zoom Lens for iPhone 4/4s Review

6x Zoom Lens for iPhone 4/4s Review

    Whoops! Something went wrong!

We recently got our hands on a rather interesting accessory for the iPhone 4/4s, the 6x Zoom lens. It is available online at  ChinaBuye at a price of $14, shipping included.

The package includes the zoom lens, a plastic case and a cleaning cloth.

When you hold the lens in your hand, the first thing you will notice is that it is light weight but well built. There are no loose parts but the plastic cover provided with the lens has a tendency to gather dust and scratch your phone.

Mounting the lens on the case is a bit difficult but once it’s on it stays put. The focus ring towards the front lens helps you adjust the focus while shooting a video or taking a photo. The focus range is 3m-infinity with a field of 9 degrees.

While testing it outside, we noticed that getting a steady image from the lens is a very tough task and it would be better to use it by mounting your device on a tripod stand. However, the lens does provide a very considerable zoom and is ideal for shooting far-placed objects. The only drawback we found was the shakiness of  the lens.

Overall, given its cost, the zoom lens is a good purchase.

PlugBug Lets you charge your iPhone/iPod/iPad on your Macbook adapter (PR)

The new PlugBug by Twelve South is an  amazing space saving, Macbook power adapter add-on. It lets you utilize your existing Macbook power adapter to charge your iDevices or any other device that charges via a USB port – Tablets and Mobiles alike. The design fits onto the Power adapters plug connector and adds a US type plug, which could be inconvenient for some (including those in India) But that is only a little disadvantage to deal with if you have just one powerpoint. Now the big deal over here is that most people in India would rather buy a 100 Rs. (2 Dollar) Multiplug that would give you not two but three outlets from the same outlet. Especially considering that this badboy costs a pretty steep US $34.99 or about Indian Rs. 1800.

    You Decide!

Meet PlugBug, the iPad/iPhone travel charger that snaps onto your MacBook Power Adapter

Charleston, SC, November 1, 2011 – Twelve South is pleased to unveil PlugBug, an iPad/iPhone wall charger that piggybacks onto a MacBook Power Adapter, allowing you to charge a MacBook and an iPad/iPhone simultaneously from one power outlet. Made to fit all MacBook Power Adapters, PlugBug is available now at twelvesouth.com for $34.99.The ingenious PlugBug connects to all MacBook Power Adapters. Simply snap PlugBug onto a MacBook Power Adapter, in place of the adapter’s AC plug, and you now have one handy device that charges MacBook and iPad or iPhone at the same time, using only one wall outlet. This can be a real lifesaver when you need to charge both before a meeting or – even more stressful – between connecting flights with only one outlet available.

Along with a beautiful design, PlugBug packs 10 powerful watts, charging iPad as fast as technically possible. In fact, many public USB charging stations, like those found in airports, lack the power to charge an iPad. Not only will PlugBug provide the proper charge, it will charge your iPad up to twice as fast as many competing chargers. Now you can carry just one compact PlugBug to charge your iPad or iPhone and leave the other chargers at home, reducing the clutter in your computer bag. Forget about worrying whether or not you remembered your iPad charger – with PlugBug it’s always connected to your MacBook charger. For those times when you only need an iPad charger, you can disconnect PlugBug from your MacBook Power Adapter and still use it as a stand alone device.

Andrew Green, Creative Director at Twelve South, said, “PlugBug is a dream product for us. It improves on MacBook’s own Power Adapter, adds a completely new idea to iPad/iPhone chargers, and it simplifies the lives of die-hard Apple fans – like me – who carry multiple Apple devices wherever they go.”So why is PlugBug red? Noted author and original Mac Evangelist Guy Kawasaki gets credit for the color. When shown an early prototype, Kawasaki insisted PlugBug should carry a show-stopping hue viewable from across the room – or airport. The “Kawasaki Red” PlugBug was born. Those outside the U.S. and Canada can use PlugBug as the perfect U.S. adapter and iPad/iPhone charger. Not only does PlugBug convert any non-U.S. MacBook Power Adapter into a North American-compatible adapter, it also serves as a bonus USB charger for iPad and

Apple ended the wire plug fury of Laptops, especially Apple laptops with the introduction of the magsafe connector in 2006. The Magsafe connector detaches on being pulled hence keeping the device safe when a clumsy owner trips over the wire.

This is not the case with the current iPhone and iPad connectors, making them vulnerable to damage. With this new patent , Apple hopes to end that war of man vs wire  and with wireless syncs just a iOS update away, one can see magsafe power connectors in the next gen iDevices.
