Breaking : iPhone 5 Price for India confirmed Rs. 45,500 for 16GB, Rs 52,500 for 32 GB

    iphone 5

The iPhone 5 has not officially been announced, but we have been tracking its progress from the day it was announced in the US. The iPhone 5 is arriving at stores on the 28th of Oct and may go on sale as early as the same day. Some stores, including iStore (Reliance-Apple tie up) is saying that they will be allowed to sell the phones only on the 2nd of November. Most third party retailers known to iGyaan are sticking with the Oct 28th delivery dates.

The iPhone 5 price has been finalized at the earlier speculated Rs.45,500 for 16 GB with only one year warranty as always  and not the Rs. 47,999 price mark (supposedly including the 2 year warranty). Apple is expecting big sales with the iPhone 5 in India, and claims that they will sell atleast double of what they sold last year with the iPhone 4S.

Apple is also pegging big on iPhone and iPod sales this year, and has also enabled localization of apps in the App Store to show prices in Rupees instead of US dollars.  The nano sims that will work with the new iPhone 5 are already at network providers and Vodafone has confirmed that they are ready with sim cards in major metropolitan cities for the iPhone 5 influx.

    iPhone 5 Price in India

    • 16 GB : Rs 45,500
    • 32 GB : Rs 52,500
    • 64 GB : Rs 59,500

The above prices are also close to the Rs 8000 incremental prices suggested by iGyaan during Laucnh of the iPhone 5.

  • MacBook Pro Retina 13-Inch Teardown : Redesigned battery, Samsung flash, Soldered RAM

MacBook Pro Retina 13-Inch Teardown : Redesigned battery, Samsung flash, Soldered RAM

    macbook pro

The $1,699 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display has a reconfigured battery that is much easier to remove, an iFixit teardown reveals.

Now that Apple has taken the wraps off its latest MacBook Pro, a 13-inch notebook updated with the company’s high-definition Retina display, the teardown team over at iFixit has taken the screws to it—or out of it, as the case may be. During the analysis, the company noted the most striking change was the redesign of the device’s battery—which has been changed in a few ways.

The flash storage in the 13-inch MacBook Pro taken apart by iFixit is a Samsung MZ-DPC2560/0A2 unit rated at 3.3 volts and 2.39 amps with 256 gigabytes of storage.

The disassembly discovered that the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro has the same AirPort card as its 15-inch counterpart, while the heat sink has been slightly scaled down to fit into the smaller notebook. Apple has also once again used fans with asymmetrical blade spacing to reduce fan noise.

    macbook pro

And like the 15-inch model, the RAM is surface-mount soldered to the logic board, meaning no upgrades are possible. Apple does not offer any more than 8 gigabytes of RAM on the new 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Another strange inclusion found in the notebook is a flash memory chip on the trackpad board. The same feature is also found in the 15-inch model, but iFixit doesn’t know why a trackpad would require flash memory.

“The 13in MacBook Retina is slightly more recyclable than the 15in Retina,” the Ifixit team said on its Macbook teardown page. “Once inside, it took us ‘only’ 15 minutes of prying to remove the battery, and we didn’t puncture the battery cells.”

Ifixit also found that the battery fitted inside is glued into the laptop’s top case, but is slightly less difficult to remove compared to the 15in model.

One of the biggest worries for the Ifixit crew is the display assembly, which it says is almost impossible to take apart. “If anything ever fails inside the display, you’ll need to replace the display as a whole,” it said.

As a device repair site, iFixit rates the repairability of the electronics it disassembles. They found that the 13-inch MacBook Pro is a slight improvement over the 15-inch model in terms of recyclability and repairability, specifically with relation to the removal of the device’s batteries. Still, the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display could only earn a repairability score of 2 out of 10.

New 12W Adapter Will Charge iPads Quicker Than 10W Adapters Says Apple

    apple

The morning of Apple’s iPad mini event earlier this week, there was a handful of new accessories coming including four new Lightning adapters and a 12W USB power adapter. We didn’t hear much about them during the event, but the new cables and adapters have hit Apple’s online store now, including a Lightning Digital AV adapter and Lightning to VGA adapter, with most shipping in “2-3 weeks”.

On the product page for the new 12W USB charger, Apple confirmed it would indeed ship with Retina iPads. With the new fourth-gen replacing the third-gen iPad—that would essentially cover just the iPad 4. It is, however, selling the adapter by itself for $19 online and listing compatibility with iPad 2, iPhone 4S, and iPod touch fifth-gen and up. Many readers have wondered whether the adapter would allow for faster charging with the iPad 3 and fourth-gen iPad.

9to5Mac received confirmation of this super-charging power from Apple which said, “We don’t have an exact percentage of how much faster it would charge but you should see an increase in speed.”

This is good news to iPad third generation owners who were disappointed with the slow charge times from the original 10W adapter.

Customers who want to turbocharge their device can buy the new 12W USB power adapter for $19 from Apple’s online store.

The nano sims are already at network providers and Vodafone has confirmed that they are ready with sim cards in major metropolitan cities for the iPhone 5 influx. Apple expects to do doubly well in India compared to the launch of the iPhone 4s which received mammoth demand. According to Apple they have already received hundreds of thousands of requests for the iPhone 5 in India.

Apple Starts iOS 6.0.1 Carrier Testing, Releasing Soon To Fix Bugs

    ios

Apple is now apparently in the process of testing a minor iOS update, iOS 6.0.1, with carriers with the update likely to hit users in the coming weeks. The report comes from BGR who say that one of their Apple sources has let slip about the update and that numerous bugs will be fixed with the update, including enhanced Wi-Fi support and fixes for cellular data as well as the horizontal aberrations in iTunes when entering a password.

Users have also reported issues with the camera flash not being timed properly with the shutter, leading to accidentally dark scenes. This should be fixed in the new software version, as well as a fix for iTunes Match incorrectly using data when WiFi is in use.

Apple is also rumoured to be testing its next big iOS version, 6.1, which is expected to come by the end of the year. While one may expect the new iPad mini to come with a new version of iOS, it seems increasingly unlikely that iOS 6.1 will be ready to go by the smaller tablet’s early November release date.

No information on how the computer performs or if it runs on the Ivy Bridge platform, the images do show Windows running on it. However the macbook pro 13 inch with Retina display could be a perfect balance between a unibody and SSD design and portability.

The images are also speculated to be of a Chinese ripoff replica running windows on substandard hardware, like the macbook Air replica seen earlier.

  • Exclusive : Apple iPad Mini may launch in India as early as first week of November

Exclusive : Apple iPad Mini may launch in India as early as first week of November

Apple iPad MiniTake this one with a pinch of salt! Apple’s new iPad Mini may not have been announced yet, but it is to make a debut on the 23rd of October 2012. Apple resources and one Apple Distributor  close to iGyaan have informed us that stocks for the new iPad Mini may be available as soon as 1st week of November.

Apple is pegging big on their new mini iPad and expect it to sell well during what is the festive season of the Indian subcontinent. Apple’s iPad Mini has been long rumored, in fact Apple is supposedly working on the iPad mini for several years. Leaked images and casings along with camera modules, back panels and  even displays of the supposed iPad have been found before the actual release.

If Apple does infact release an iPad Mini on the 23rd Oct event, the pricing will determine its final market worth and also will determine how well it will do in India, provided the above speculation is true.

The current leaked pricing of the iPad Mini starts at Euro 249 for the basic variant which should peg it between Rs 15000-20000 in India.

Apple iPad Mini will supposedly sport a 7.85 inch Retina display, along with new gen chipsets, will run on iOS 6 and will be available in both WiFi only and with a cellular option. Apple is holding the special event on the 23rd of October to announce not only the new iPad Mini, but will also launch upgraded Mac Minis and new iMacs and Retina Macbook Pro 13 inch versions. Apple Cinema displays are also long overdue for an upgrade, which might happen on the 23rd event too.

Google Contemplating FTC Settlement Over Patents : WSJ

    motorola

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Google is contemplating a settlement of an FTC investigation that is probing whether the company purposely refused to license industry essential patents to competing mobile device makers, and in some cases leveraged the IP to seek injunctions.

The FTC in June began investigating Google’s use of patents it acquired after purchasing Motorola in May.
Following the buyout, the internet search giant continued to press forward with a number of existing lawsuits, including possibly anticompetitive litigation regarding standards-essential FRAND patents.

One of the sources noted that the FTC had threatened to bring a case against Google over alleged unfair business practices involving the use of Motorola’s IP against rival mobile device makers like Apple and Microsoft. During discussions, the agency’s lawyers cited a number of cases in which the Google subsidiary possibly violated FRAND terms.

Google reportedly argued that competitors currently holding FRAND patents also violated their duties in bringing suit against Motorola and others, including filings from Apple. The company went on to say that if a settlement was reached, it would be left defenseless as rivals push forward with their own FRAND claims.
