Sennheiser will soon release it’s new set of headphones, Orpheus with a price tag of $50,000 (no, that’s not a typo) or Rs. 32,75,000. About twenty five years ago, the company had come out with Orpheus HE90, which soon came to be known as the best headphones money can buy. There were only 300 of those made by the company, and they came with an amplifier at a cost of about $16,000.

After almost a quarter of a century since 1991, Sennheiser is ready with an updated version of the Orpheus. The company had been working on the gadget for over a decade now. German craftsmanship and over 6,000 components that include gold-vaporized ceramic electrodes, platinum-vaporized diaphragms, and Carrara marble amplifier housing from Italy -same as the one used by Michelangelo -all have gone into making this beauty. Clearly, these headphones are not meant for metro rides or listening to music on the laptop.
All these intricately chosen components improve sound quality and audio experience. Digital amplification takes place directly in the headphones and therefore steers clear of any disturbance that might have happened because of cord travel of the sound. Sennheiser plans to make the Orpheus available starting mid-2016 and would keep the production at a 250 piece per year. Time to bring out the piggy bank and start saving up, folks!

Kenwood USA, famously known for its multimedia system and car audio components, have ventured into a new category of products. The company has officially entered the headphone market and had invited a few selected retailers in an enclosed meeting area at the CES this year to give a glimpse of the new product.
The company debuted with three sets of headphones- two in-ear and one over-the-ear models, namely KH-CR500, KH-SR800 and the KH-KR900. All the headphones are designed for specific purposes. The in-ear KH-CR500 headphones have an $80 (Rs 5,104) suggested retail and come with three sets of memory-foam ear cushions and three sets of silicone. The waterproof KH-SR800 sports headphones cost $120 (Rs 7,656) and are designed to be worn without interfering with glasses, the cord and clip snaking behind the neck. They come with silicone and open-type ear pieces, the latter allowing ambient noise to flow in for runners and bikers. Both in-ear models have 10mm drivers. The third model, KH-KR900, has an over-ear, fold-flat design with 40mm drivers and a $200 (Rs 12,760) price tag. The housings feature four ports that are each tuned to specific frequencies, which Kenwood called its “Quad Duct Engine.” A detachable, 4-foot flat cord is included.
Each headphone is fitted with neodymium driver units and can be used with any Apple or Android devices.
Dave Hoag, Vice President of Sales, said
These headphones are part of a significant shift in our product philosophy, but it’s not the beginning of that shift. We understand that these days, on-the-go entertainment doesn’t always start or end in the vehicle. That’s why we’ve put so much into creating a connected in-vehicle environment, to allow consumers to enjoy streaming music services and digital downloads with a quality audio experience. These new headphones represent a continuation of that effort: letting drivers enjoy high-quality Kenwood sound wherever they go.
For now, the devices are available only in specific retail stores in the US and its availability in India isn’t known as yet.

Audio equipment giant, Pioneer, introduced the sleek and sexy HDJ-500 headphones in India. The headphones look attractive and are targeted towards professionals such as DJs and folks who just want great headphones for their tunes.
The right ear housing of the HDJ-500 can swivel by 60 degrees. This, along with the flexible headbands, will make it easy for the DJs to check on the monitors with ease. The company claims that even for an everyday user, the headphones can recreate the club experience, minus the unwanted second-hand smoke of course.

For the sound aspect of the headphones, the cans increase the effective sound pressure by utilising Pioneer’s newly developed 40 mm (diameter) driver unit. The HDJ-500 are sound engineered to reproduce a rich low-range. Pioneer has also narrowed the ear pad opening, to reproduce clear sound.
The headphones come with a single-sided replaceable cord that plugs into the left side. The cans are available with two types of cords, a 1.2 meter coiled cord which can be extended up to 3 metres for DJ’ing and a 1 metre straight cord for personal listening.
The Pioneer HDJ-500 are available at a price tag of Rs. 8,590. They look like a good option for people who want a professional pair of headphones or someone who just wants the best out of their music.

The Parrot Zik 2.0, a follow up to the Bluetooth and noise cancelling Zik, have some new features and a slightly different shape. The aptly named Zik 2.0 weigh 270g, which is 17 per cent (or 55g) lighter than its predecessor.
It recovers all the original features, especially the large trackpad which this time is made of a soft-touch leather exterior. The right earcup has gesture controls for playback and volume, with NFC and the removable battery on the left side.
The headphones have no exposed metal, but still retain their touch and gesture ability. It retains the dual, near-ear sensors; one of which recognizes when the headphones are on your head (to pause and play music when you take them on and off) and the other, a bone-conduction sensor, picks up voice vibrations so it knows when you’re speaking, which helps with noise canceling during phone calls.
Parrot said the headphone has been redesigned from the ground up to address user feedback, and the most immediate difference you’ll notice is a weight loss. Parrot also tweaked the headphones’ overall battery life, which was addressed by giving users the ability to choose how they want to use them. Each mode comes with its own battery life rating. There’s Flight Mode, which gives listeners up to 18 hours when plugged in via wire. There’s Eco Mode, which gives seven hours of the noise-cancelling effects. And for those who want to go all out on features over Bluetooth, you’ll get up to six hours.
There’s a ‘Street Mode’ which is quite interesting. The headphones, using some of the built-in microphones, reinserts some of the surrounding ambient sound back into the headphones. This could be beneficial if you’re walking on a busy street, so you can still hear the traffic, or as Parrot points out, you can hear your own voice in your ears while talking on the phone.
With Zik 2.0, Parrot has leveled up the internal tech with a higher-grade DAC (digital-to-analog converter), which it says creates cleaner sound, as well as better noise cancelling and a new app that allows you to customize the way you want your music to sound with advanced EQ settings, in addition to adjusting how much noise-cancelling you want.
Zik 2.0 comes in six colors and is set to be available in November on the Parrot website and at Apple and Brookstone retail stores at $399.

After the amazing record label “We The Best Music Group”, DJ Khaled partnered with Heads Audio & Bang Olufsen to introduce a namesake Headphones brand to take on the Dr. Dre’s Beats. The brand will be known as We The Best Sound.
Dj Khaled is known for his collaborations with the crème de la crème of the Hip Hop world like Jay-Z, Kanye West, Nicky Minaj, Ludacris, Chris Brown, Drake and many more. He has also won multiple awards for his collaborations.
On the Headphones front he has a much more formidable opponent in Beats. Dr Dre’s brand has had a long head start and has also been featured on DJ Khaled’s videos. Also the recent Apple acquisition gave it a considerable boost. So it would be interesting to see how We The Best scores up against the Beats.
Yesterday, he posted an update on Instagram and he had this to say:
“Today I am proud to announce that I have partnered with Heads Audio & Bang Olufsen to create the best audio in the market place, We The Best Sound. We The Best Sound represents the very best in audio entertainment. Alongside the prestigious Bang Olufsen brand, We The Best Sound and Heads Audio will provide the listener with the highest quality sound in electronic audio entertainment and will continue to carry on the tradition in excellence set by Bang Olufsen. It will also provide the listener a chance to hear audio the way I hear it when creating my music. I take pride in crafting a sound based on time, care and most importantly the best quality sound on the planet. Embark on this journey in sound with me…you won’t be disappointed. We The Best Sound, the brand you can trust. H6 with Dj Khaled by B&O @wethebestmusic @wethebestsound @headsaudio @beoplay #GODISTHEGREATEST!”
The Headphones themselves look good. Though special consideration should go to the Iron Man Red and Gold color tones, a combination of classy and flashy. Since yesterday his instagram account has been filling up with him posing with a wide barrage of celebrities. He even had one with Larry King (who knew someone would consider Larry King for headphone endorsement).
It’s actually good for the music industry to have sound equipment merchandising. Considering the fact that it is hard to make money out of sales because of internet piracy, a trademarked hardware would definitely be an advantage for the industry. We’d surely like to see more competition in the field.
Come on Eminem, where are the GOD’s Headphones?

Now this is just the kind of news that all the prospective iPhone buyers were waiting for. We have learnt that after the major 3.2 billion dollar acquisition of Beats by Apple, the company is going to include their earphones with the next iPhone.
The Dr.Dre and Jimmy Lovine created brand of music gear has become the staple across the music scene. This was Apple’s biggest acquisition till date as they remain conservative with their spending. This conservative approach helps them to put resources in R&D which then helps them to stand out from the crowd.
Apple had made it clear that it is not going to combine the brand. This is a good step as Beats has massive visibility and brand recognition especially its association with the Doctor of the Hip Hop world. Apple was already selling Beats gear at its store but it will reach a lot more people since one of the most recognized brands (Apple) starts selling it along with its most recognized gadget (iPhone).
Along with this, Apple might also try to bring some kind of integration with the Beats music service, which will be appreciated by many. The service lets you personalize music based on listening habits and recommendations from expert music curators. Though this is only a speculation at the moment but a Beats music integration with iTunes might help Apple to reclaim its youthful appeal.
Now as the Apple-Beats deal has been confirmed so the chances of a Beats earphones coming to you with your next iPhone box has increased. So if you were contemplating an iPhone purchase you might want to wait a couple of months, to get your BEATS on !
