HTC One S Special Edition will come in White and with 64 GB of Storage

one s special editionWhile it may not be the best phone to buy in India, the One S will now globally come with a special edition moniker swell. Just after an apparent success of the HTC One X Fashion edition, the HTC One S will also be branded, slapped in a white coat along with a bump in storage, will be called a special edition. The HTC One S Special Editions’s new color is called the unicorn white and will feature the S4 variant of the SoC unlike the S3 available in India.

The downside to the HTC One S Special Edition is that it will mostly be targeted for Hometown, Taiwan users and it may never hit the Indian shores, officially anyway.

The original One S is 0.31 inches (7.9 mm) at its thinnest point. The phone uses an aluminum unibody shell, with two finishes available – a black micro arc oxidized finish, and a light-blue to dark-blue gradient anodized finish. HTC states that the micro arc oxidized finish makes the body five times stronger than the bare aluminum, although some users claim that the finish chips easily. The phone has a power/lock button and a 3.5 mm headphone jack at the top, a volume rocker on the upper right side, and a MHL/Micro USB port on the upper left. Three capacitive buttons are located on the front of the phone, below the display. There are two speakers, one on the front (serving as the earpiece) and one on the back. A two-color  notification LED sits under the earpiece grille. The top piece of plastic on the back is removable and is where the phone accepts a micro-SIM card. One S’s Super AMOLED display measures 4.3 inches (110 mm) diagonally, with a resolution of 960×540 pixels (qHD resolution), and is protected by a sheet of Corning Gorilla Glass. The display uses a PenTile RGBG subpixel arrangement.

HTC also announces press event a week from Apple – Sept 19th

We already know of Nokia’s and Apple’s press events in Spetember, apart from the Moto-Intel launch in the UK, now HTC has announced a press event on the 19th, possibly launching Windows 8 phones that were leaked weeks ago. Looks like this time around it may not be Apple’s month at all.

  • HTC One X Android 4.0.4 update rolling out

HTC One X Android 4.0.4 update rolling out

The international version of the HTC One X will be getting its Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update today, the same update that began rolling out for the AT&T version of the device just a short time ago.

HTC has announced, courtesy of Engadget, that the HTC One X’s Android 4.0.4 update will begin to roll out today and that it will be bringing a number of enhancements along with it.

Owners of the international HTC One X will now be able to map a menu function to the ‘recent app’ key in the lower right hand corner of the device. This will improve presentation in applications that currently do not support Ice Cream Sandwich. So obviously, this makes the button more useful than it already was.

The update will also new abilities to the device’s camera including white balance and continuous autofocus, both of which will be welcomed improvements.

HTC has also included a dedicated tab switching button in the browser to make it easier for owners to switch between tabs in the browser.

The update for the HTC One X will also bring better overall browsing, more stability to the device, and more. So, it’s a pretty substantial update and one that users will want to take advantage of as soon as they possibly can.

Of course, the update is not Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Google’s latest piece of mobile software that is all the rage right now in the Android world.

HTC has promised Android 4.1 for the HTC One XL, HTC One X, and the HTC One S at some point down the road but first, it needs to take care of some devices that are still limping their way to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Quite predictably, the handset employs Beats Audio technology to cater to musical needs. It packs in 4GB of memory onboard that can be expanded via a microSD card slot. Besides, there’s free Dropbox storage for 2 years. For connectivity purposes, options like Wi-Fi, a 3.5mm audio jack, a micro-USB port and Bluetooth 4.0 are thrown into the mix. This ICS handset is the first to provide its users with HSIA internet for smooth web browsing.

Its price is marked at Rs. 21,999. Apart from convenient data plans, buyers tying up with the network provider’s post-paid or pre-paid schemes will receive a voice and data offer too.

  • Sony Xperia Neo L goes up for Pre Order – Rs 18,499 Coming End July

Sony Xperia Neo L goes up for Pre Order – Rs 18,499 Coming End July

Sony Xperia Neo L is a revision to the Xperia Neo V launched last year. This smartphone is the first Sony handset to arrive integrated with ICS. Hardware components include a 1GHz processor, a 5MP autofocus camera, a 4-inch screen with a 854 × 480p resolution and a front-facing VGA camera for video calling.

The phone has a microSD expansion slot, 1GB of internal memory and 512 MB RAM, a1500mAh battery is expected to provide the juice for about 8 hours of talk time and approximately 575 hours of standby on 2G.

Unlike its siblings like Xperia S, Xperia U and Xperia Arc S, the Neo L runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system straight out-of-the-box, which gives it a slight edge over others as most phones being sold in market are still based on Gingerbread. However, in an already flooded Android market, the question remains whether Sony Xperia neo L will stand out at a price of Rs 18,499, especially when HTC One V is available at Rs 18,599 and the similarly-priced dual core-powered Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 is scheduled to hit India in a few months.

Expect A full review post launch.

HTC HD2 Gets Unofficial Android 4.1 Jelly Bean – Epic Phone

The HTC HD2 has always been the most easily adapted phone when it came to running multiple OS’ . This was the first phone to triple boot Android and Windows phone 7 with Windows Phone 6.5.

Evervolv at the XDA-Developers forums has produced a pre-alpha port of Android 4.1 for the originally Windows Mobile-based phone. The funny thing is that in comparison to other devices, the HD2 build is running quite stably, except the camera, Google Now and web browser.

The build is not meant for day to day use, but the devs are working hard to deliver a fully usable build. And knowing the history of this handset, we don’t fear it too far.

  • HTC changing its geometry with the new Vertex Tablet!

HTC changing its geometry with the new Vertex Tablet!

    Whoops! Something went wrong!

We have a new report that sheds more light on this HTC product. Apparently HTC has forgotten all about its past in the tablet market and is planning the HTC Vertex HD, a tablet that has already shown up in benchmark tests.

According to Slashgear, the new tablet will sport a 10.1-inch display with 1280 x 800 resolution, 1.3GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, a 2-megapixel rear-facing camera and a front-facing 1.3-megapixel shooter, Bluetooth 4.0 and Beats Audio support. The device is running Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich right now, although that may change by the time it hits stores.

Speaking about availability details, we don’t have any launch dates or pricing for this new Android device, so we’ll have to wait for HTC and its carrier partners to officially unveil it, or leak more details about it. What’s clear so far is that the device doesn’t appear to be necessarily an iPad contender, but it’s neither an affordable 7-inch device meant to take on the Google Nexus 7.

Could the Vertex be a budget 10-inch tablet? Anyone interested in a new HTC tablet?
