  • LG V35 ThinQ Without A Notch Launched Starting US$ 900

LG V35 ThinQ Without A Notch Launched Starting US$ 900

LG has launched a second flagship smartphone in the space of one month. Rather quietly, the company unveiled the LG V35 ThinQ which will go on sale in the US on June 8th for a starting price of US$ 900 (Rs 61000 approx.). The smartphone is identical to the LG V30 ThinQ which in turn, looked exactly like the LG V30 which was launched on August 31st at IFA 2017. The V35 ThinQ with its unusually large name is part of LG’s revamped launch strategy wherein the company would launch a smartphone if and when required rather than following a fixed pattern.

Apart from the new Snapdragon 845 SoC, the specifications remain the same as the LG V30 ThinQ. The display, the battery, the build quality is exactly like its predecessor, which was launch at MWC 2018 in February. The camera department sees an improvement as well since the V35 ThinQ has the same camera implementation as the LG G7 ThinQ.

The LG V35 ThinQ has a 6 inch OLED display with a 2880 x 1440 px resolution. The 18:9 aspect ratio means that the smartphone does not have a notch unlike the LG G7 ThinQ. This should please the notch haters even though it’s evident that the notch is what’s trending right now.

Under the hood, the smartphone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage. The storage is expandable up to 2TB via microSD card. The fingerprint sensor is placed on the back which also doubles up as a power button. LG again differentiates between the G7 ThinQ and V35 ThinQ here as the G7 has a side-mounted power button and even a Google Assistant button.

Powering the device is a 3300 mAh battery with wireless charging QuickCharge 3.0. Out of the box, the LG V35 ThinQ will run Android 8.0 Oreo with LG’s own custom skin on top. As the ‘ThinQ’ moniker suggests, there will be a lot “AI features” within the UI and camera app.

To the back of the smartphone is a horizontally-placed dual-camera setup. The primary 16MP wide-angle sensor has an f/1.9 aperture while the secondary 16MP RGB sensor has an f/1.6 aperture. To the front of the device is an 8MP camera with an f/1.9 aperture. There will be a lot of AI features within the camera app like scene detection for a better user experience.

The LG V35 ThinQ seems like an amalgamation of the V30 and G7 ThinQ. The design might please the notch haters but, in the world of the OnePlus 6 and Galaxy S9, it’ll be interesting to see how many people opt for an LG flagship smartphone now.

  • LG will Drop The Notch For The LG V35 ThinQ

LG will Drop The Notch For The LG V35 ThinQ

LG launched the G7 ThinQ on the 2nd of May. The smartphone hardly had anything surprising features as most of them were leaked much before it officially launched. After a few other OEMs, LG also embraced the infamous notch with G7 ThinQ. Now, it looks like the company will revert to the old design for its upcoming smartphone, the LG V35 ThinQ.

The LG V35 ThinQ will be a follow-up to the V30, which was launched in India in December 2017. New renders of the LG V35 ThinQ reveal that LG might not be fond of the design of G7 ThinQ. The company will move back to a traditional design with uniform bezels all around the bezels. This could be a good news for people looking to buy an LG smartphone but, are not the biggest fans of the notch.

Another reason for LG not going for notched display could be to differentiate the lineups. It is also rumoured that the V35 ThinQ will have an OLED panel like its predecessor. The G7 ThinQ has an LCD display and LG has talked up its brightness levels up until now. This means that LG does want differentiating factors between the two lineups and the notch could be a major factor.

According to the leaks, the LG V35 ThinQ will have a 6 inch QHD+ OLED “FullVision” display. The device will have an 18:9 aspect ratio and an 80% screen-to-body ratio.

Under the hood, the smartphone will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The onboard storage is expected to expandable via a microSD card. The one feature that could make its way to the V35 ThinQ from the G7 is the Google Assistant button. As the name of the smartphone suggests, the V35 will have a lot of emphasis on AI.

The LG V30 was launched in August in 2017 but, the V35 ThinQ probably won’t follow the same pattern. The smartphone is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2018 as LG would want to launch new smartphones as and when required.

  • LG May Launch The LG V30 in India Without The Quad DAC

LG May Launch The LG V30 in India Without The Quad DAC

LG announced its new flagship, the LG V30 at IFA 2017 in Berlin a few days ago and early impressions of the phone have been positive. The smartphone does away with a secondary display which became a signature of the V series for the past couple of years.

The LG V series phones have always been designed for enthusiasts of media consumption. In the past, LG has teamed up with B&O in a bid to deliver to premium sound quality through their V series and this year as well, LG and B&O came together to work on the sound of the LG V30 by including an inbuilt QUAD -DAC. The LG G6 launched with different features in different markets and it seems that the V30 will follow the same system. According to a tip received by iGyaan, in order to keep the pricing competitive in India, the LG V30 will launch without the B&O Quad DAC. While aesthetically the phone will only lose the B&O logo at the back, it will affect the sound output from the device hindering the experience when compared o that of the LG V30 with a DAC. If LG does go through with the removal  of one of the important USPs of the LG V30, LG’s decision will definitely raise a few eyebrows in India.

While this may be a move to bring down the pricing of the LG V30, it may not be appreciated by many of the prospective buyers of the LG V30. LG has had a poor trend with their recent flagships, with the modular LG G5 not doing well at all, and the LG G6 remaining the underdog, The LG V30 may be the comeback phone LG is looking for, however pricing will be crucial in a market like India.

The LG V30 has a 6 inch 2880 x 1440 px OLED FullVision display, LG’s first, with an 18:9 aspect ratio and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for protection. LG’s nearly edge-to-edge OLED display has HDR 10 format for a high level of colour contrast. While being powered by a 3300mAh battery with wireless fast charging the phone also supports quick charge 3.0. The smartphone runs Android 7.1.2 with LG’s UX 6.0+ on top which offers a few customisation options. Like other flagships of 2017 the V30 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, a 2.4GHz octa-core processor, 4 GB RAM and 64GB/128GB onboard storage with up to 2TB of expandable storage via a microSD card. The phone also has an  IP68 rating for water and dust resistance and MIL-STD 810G rating for durability.

A big omission from the V30 is the secondary display, which was a signature in the previous V series devices. Instead, LG has introduced a Floating Bar which displays shortcuts and can be disabled when not required.  Apart from the rear mounted fingerprint scanner which also doubles as a home button, LG has introduced few new security features in the LG V30 such as facial and voice recognition. The voice recognition will even work along with music playback. On the camera front, the LG V30 features a dual-camera setup at the back. As LG had announced, this smartphone has the first ever inbuilt camera unit to feature a 16MP crystal clear lens made of glass with an f/1.6 aperture and another 13MP wide angle lens with an f/1.9 aperture. Compared to the f/1.8 aperture cameras on the iPhone 7Plus and the Samsung Galaxy S8+, the camera on the LG V30 will let 25% more light to pass through. The glass lens also delivers greater light-collecting ability than a plastic lens as well as better colour reproduction. The camera will feature laser detection AF, optical image stabilisation and electronic image stabilisation. On the front side, the LG V30 sports a 5MP wide-angle camera with an aperture f/2.2.

There is no word on the pricing of the LG V30 yet but, if the reports of the omission of B&O Quad DAC are true, the smartphone will launch at a very competitive price and beat the likes of Samsung Galaxy Note8 and the upcoming iPhone 8 in terms of price, at least.

LG has partnered up with Bang & Olufsen this time around to deliver sound quality ideal for media consumption and the B&O logo appears on the rear of the smartphone just below the fingerprint scanner. Thanks, to the partnership, LG V30 incorporates a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC powered by Bang & Olufsen with few sound presets like enhanced, detailed, bass and live. The smartphone also has support for Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) technology for high-resolution audio streaming.

Aside from the rear mounted fingerprint scanner which also doubles as home button, LG has introduced few new security features in the LG V30 such as facial and voice recognition. The voice recognition will even work along with the music playback.

The LG V30 is designed for cinematic videography, claims the company. The smartphone’s CineShot movie mode and cine effect enables users to apply color palates. Other features include point zoom, which allows you to tap anywhere on the screen to lock your focus and zoom and the LG’s CineLog format for easier color grading.

Juno Cho, president of LG Electronics Mobile said, “The V series has always been demonstrating new practical mobile technologies that contribute to high quality content creation and the V30 has not lost sight of its roots, with its F1.6 Crystal Clear Lens Camera and Cine Video mode, the LG V30 is designed to help create professional-looking content without professional-level complexity.”

No details about the pricing or availability of the flagship LG V30 have been revealed yet.

  • LG V30 To Feature ‘Premium Sound Quality And High-End Camera’

LG V30 To Feature ‘Premium Sound Quality And High-End Camera’

LG continues the trend of teasing new features of its upcoming flagship, the LG V30 by releasing another video teaser. In this teaser, LG showcases the ‘premium audio quality’ that the LG V30 will possess. The ‘V’ series has been known to feature top-notch media consumption qualities and LG has admitted that the V30 won’t be any different.

It was earlier reported that the LG V30 will feature a Quad DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) and this video confirms it. LG had paired up with Bang & Olufsen Play, a Danish premium audio brand in the past. The LG V20 retailed with Bang and Olufsen earphones and the G5 had a B&O audio module. The new LG V30 is also expected to feature B&O earphones. The company claims the feature will allow users to optimise their sound simply by touching displays and adjust tone depending on genre. Through the Sound Preset, users can optimise tone into four categories, namely balanced, clear, live and low-pitched. The Digital Filter also allows users to choose echo in three categories: short, slow and sharp.

In a blog post, LG announced that the V30 will have a 6 inch 2880 x 1440 px OLED display. The advantage of an OLED display is the operational response time, which is a lot faster than LCD. This accelerated response time effectively eliminates afterimages, an important consideration for action movies and VR. This, combined with the Quad DAC will make the LG V30 an ideal device for media consumption.

According to LG, the LG V30 will also be the first smartphone to feature a camera unit with an f/1.6 aperture.

LG confirmed that the V30 will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat with LG UX 6.0+ on top. UX 6.0+ will offer a lot of personalisation options such as the semi-transparent Floating Bar for quick access to frequently used functions. The Floating Bar can be disabled when not needed. The new Always On Display can be customised to display Quick Tools, Music Player or a personal photograph. The LG V30 will also feature new security updates such as facial and voice recognition.

LG will launch the V30 on August 31 at IFA 2017 in Berlin and will go on sale soon after the launch in major European and US markets. The phone is expected to be launched in India in the month of October.
