  • Xiaomi Launches the Mi 5 in India for Rs. 24999

Xiaomi Launches the Mi 5 in India for Rs. 24999

At an event held in New Delhi, Xiaomi has finally launched the Mi 5 in India for a price of Rs 24990 for the base variant.

The phone will feature the Snapdragon 820 processor with 3 GB or RAM and 32 GB storage. With a 16 MP main camera and a 4 MP, 2-micron pixel size, front camera, the Mi 5 will go on sale on the 6th of April.

The price of the phone is more than people expected, as the base variant was supposed to be around 22000, as the Chinese price of the smartphone is around Rs. 20000.

Xiaomi is not launching the 64 GB variant, or even the Mi 5 Pro in India today with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. Which is a huge disappointment for Xiaomi and Mi 5 fans. Another let down is the launch only in the white color, with the gold and silver colors not in sight.

Has Xiaomi rushed the launch of the Mi 5 to an extent where they are just trying to fulfil a promise to people, with a price and fewer options than ever before?  Either way, the phones are expected to run out of stock early, unless you can score an F-Code.

  • Xiaomi’s Mi 5 launch in India Today is a Crucial Moment

Xiaomi’s Mi 5 launch in India Today is a Crucial Moment

The Mi 5 launch which is slated to happen later today is an important moment for Xiaomi in India. This is the first time the company has managed to bring a flagship phone to India in time.

The phone which won the world over at MBW earlier this year has people begging for excellent pricing for India. Most Indian consumers have been led to by media outlets and otherwise believe that the Mi 5 will launch in India for Rs. 24000-25000 which may or may not be true.

    mi 5

But here is why it is important for Xiaomi to price the Mi 5 just right. The company which still relies on the flash sale model, has a little quantity of smartphones to sell, to a large and angry community which has been hyped up and filled with the hope of achieving the ultimate smartphone on a budget. Xiaomi has also seen major price falls in the past year.

Xiaomi has also seen major price falls in the past year. They had to remove the flash sale model of the Mi4 in expectations of achieving sales targets.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 which features the Snapdragon 820 chipset, will have either 3GB or 4GB RAM options and will allow you to choose between 32/64 GB variants in the regular edition along with a 128 GB PRO edition which may not be launched in India.

However, the anticipation is that Xiaomi will launch the Mi 5 base model in India for Rs. 22999 with the 64GB model going for Rs. 24999 and the pro- variant for Rs 27000. The phones should be available to order today shipping in about 10 days to happy owners.

However, if the company has any expectations of winning bigger consumers a large number of these phones should go on sale right after the first flash sale.

The display on the phone is 5.1.5-inch screen Full HD display and all of this is powered using a non-replaceable 3000mAh battery. The camera setup on the phone is also something special. Le Max Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 5 : Will the Real Flagship Killer Please Stand Up

Xiaomi with its announcement of the Xiaomi Mi 5 at events in Beijing and Barcelona today has come to lay claim on the title of being 2016’s biggest flagship killer. The handset which took Xiaomi two years to develop comes with mouth-watering specs at an affordable price point of RMB 1,999(Approx Rs 21,000).

Xiaomi with the MI 5 will look to eat up into the market share of upcoming flagships such as the LG G5 and Samsung Galaxy S7 when they finally hit Indian markets. But before it can officially take up the mantle of being this year’s best bang for buck flagship killer, it will face tough competition closer to home from the new kid on the block, Le Eco, which only yesterday announced the sale of its Le Max Pro handset for the same price in China.

So time to find out which of these two is the real flagship slayer of 2016. Let the battle begin.

    What’s Under the hood?

The Le Max Pro comes to the party equipped with a pretty impressive specs. It sports a 6.33-inch display with QHD resolution which is a massive upgrade over the Xiaomi Mi 5’s 5.15-inch Full HD display, but both the phones find common ground when it comes to the Snapdragon 820 SoC that runs the show for both these devices. The Le Max Pro comes with 4GB of RAM and 64 GB of flash memory while the Mi 5 brings to the table 3GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage.

    Mi 5

The Le Max Pro has a slight advantage when it comes to the 3,400mAh battery when compared to the 3000mAh battery pack inside Xiaomi’s offering. Both the phones can be charged through a USB Type-C port and also feature fingerprint scanners come running Android 6.0 Marshmallow with their company’s respective skins out of the box.

    Camera

Camera’s on both the phones are pretty impressive. While Le Max has gone the traditional way and overloaded the specsheet with details about high megapixel count of the phone, Xiaomi has gone ahead and like most big names of the industry has looked towards real world performance in place for extra megapixels to brag about.

    mi5-h1

Le Max comes with an able  a 21MP sensor for the back of the phone which is expected to take good pictures and a 4MP sensor for the front while Xiaomi has sports a 16-megapixel rear sensor that uses Sony IMX298 with important additions such as PDAF, DTI image enhancements and 4-axis OIS. The front features a 4-megapixel UltraPixel camera which is also expected to better than the Le Max Pro.

    Design

The Le Max Pro features a bezel-less, full metal unibody design made completely out of aircraft grade aluminum which the company claims is highly durable. It also comes with the world’s first full-floating glass made by Sharp exclusively for LeEco. Because of its size, the phone feels big in the hand and one handed operation is difficult.

Coming to the Mi 5, it draws inspiration from the Mi Note in terms of design. The Mi 5 introduces a home button that houses the fingerprint scanner – a first for Xiaomi. The back features a curved edge with a 3D glass body. Meanwhile, the Pro variant comes with a 3D ceramic back. Xiaomi Mi 5’s 4-Axis OIS Camera Explained

Xiaomi today finally unveiled its flagship Mi 5 smartphone at the Mobile World Congress. The handset comes with some really pleasing design language that includes curved edge at the back, and some powerful flagship killing specs that include Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 820 chipset. But apart from these, Xiaomi is really pleased with its new camera module in the Mi 5.

    Mi 5 Camera 01

The Mi 5 sports a 16-megapixel rear sensor that uses Sony IMX298 with PDAF, DTI image enhancement and 4-axis OIS. The front features a 4-megapixel ultra pixel camera. Xiaomi has managed to fit a powerful camera module inside the device with no sign of a camera hump. The device can record 4k videos as well.

    Mi 5 Camera

It is in the 4-axis OIS that Xiaomi really delights itself. The rear camera promises to capture great images and videos with superior focus. This holds true thanks to its new OIS technology that uses 4-axis rather than the traditional 2-axis that most other smartphones currently use. Xiaomi demonstrated the stability of its camera by comparing it to the iPhone 6s, which is considered to have the best OIS currently in the market.

The 4-axis OIS basically gives you more stability under shaky conditions. While traditional 2-axis OIS can work around rotational movements, the 4-axis can handle transversal as well, because shakiness comes in all directions.

The 4-axis OIS technology corrects shake in close shots and can capture accurate movement in distant shots as well. All of this translates into smoother, sharper and blur-free images and videos even in low light. Check out some of these camera shots to know just how well the Mi 5 camera works under various settings.

  • Xiaomi Mi 5 Everything We Know

Xiaomi Mi 5 Everything We Know

China’s Apple is all set to launch its latest flagship, Xiaomi Mi 5 to eager audiences this week on the 24th at a media event during the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2016. This is the first time that the Chinese smartphone company will be rubbing shoulders with the big boys at MWC, so as such Wednesday’s launch event holds great importance for the company.

In the run-up to the launch, the company has already posted multiple teasers to wet the appetite of fans around the globe calling the upcoming handset ” all you ever imagined, and more.” The company has been nice enough to reveal the phone’s SoC, but other than there has been a lot that has leaked onto forums on the Internet. Today, we bring to you an assortment of the most credible of those leaks and rumours.

    Design

    Xiaomi Mi 5

This flagship killer from Xiaomi is to come with impressive design scheme. The phone will see a metallic frame with glass panels at the front and back of the phone. It will be available in colors like gold, pink, silver and black.

On the design front, the MI 5 seems to show thin bezels. It looks like the phone will not have a 2.5D curved glass. The screen to body ratio looks great and you also see a thinner home button at the bottom. A fingerprint scanner which will be able to receive 3D commands on the front right under the hardware home button is also expected.

    Processor

    Xiaomi-Mi-5-photo-2

The Xiaomi Mi 5 will be powered by the highly anticipated Snapdragon 820 SoC. This chipset is the next big thing by Qualcomm, and it will be seen in many of the major flagship devices set to come out this yeat, Xiaomi will be one of the first devices to join the party.

The 820 SoC with X12 LTE supports the ultimate in connectivity, graphics, photography, power and battery efficiency. The SoC comes with the Adreno 530 GPU which offers 40% improvement to graphics performance, compute capabilities, and power usage when compared to last year’s Adreno 430, and at the same time this SoC will be almost 50% more energy efficient than last year’s chip. Big gains indeed.

    Camera

Xiaomi’s co-founder and President, Lin Bin, along with other from the top brass of the company such as Hugo Barra have been sharing camera samples of the Mi 5 handset for some time now, hinting at how great the camera on their new phone is.

Latest reports reveal the phone to come with a beefy 26-megapixel camera with f/1.6 lens. The is front camera is expected to be an 8-megapixel shooter. The main camera is also expected to come with tech like laser autofocus and Optical Image Stabilization.

    Display

    Mi 5 01

There has been conflicting news about the display on the phone. Earlier reports indicated a 5.7 inch Full HD display on the phone while others pegged the phone to come with a 5.2-inch QHD display with 2.5D curved glass on the front.

But, latest reports deem these to be fanciful tales from the land of rumours, and claim that the phone will indeed come with a 5.2 inch Full HD display only. The company is also expected to give a miss to the 2.5D curved glass.

One thing that is surprisingly being tipped to make the cut is the phone using a pressure sensitive display panel, much like Apple’s Force Touch or 3D Touch display that’s used on the iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus.

    Other Specs

    Mi5

The Xiaomi Mi 5 will feature 3 GB of RAM on 32 GB storage model and 4 GB of RAM on 64 GB storage edition. It will also come with support for microSD card slot. The Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to feature 802.11ad an industry-first Wi-Fi connection standard. A battery of 3600 mAh will be present inside the Xiaomi Mi 5. The device should also be compatible with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0.
