Xiaomi Mi 6 to Sport an Under-clocked Snapdragon 835 thanks to Samsung

Xiaomi is hard at work in prepping it’s next Android flagship to be launched around MWC. The Xiaomi Mi 6 much like the Mi 5 will feature an under clocked chipset. Samsung is partially responsible for the lack of 835 chipsets for manufacturers. Samsung has placed a big order for the first lot of Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipsets making it difficult for companies to keep up. The Snapdragon 835 will not be available to LG and HTC according to a new reports. LG will use the dated Snapdragon 821 and while HTC will delay the launch of the next HTC flagship in order to get sufficient supply of the 835 chipset.

Xiaomi’s Mi 5 also had a similar fate when the company decided to use an under-clocked Snapdragon 820 chipset which in no way affected the sales of the phone and allowed the company to reduce prices considerably. The Xiaomi Mi 6 is expected to be launch soon with reports of a Feb 6th launch, the Mi 6 may launch with a dual edge display much like Samsung flagship phones.

This may also be the first time Xiaomi launches a Mi flagship series phone with resolution of 2560 x 1440px. The Mi 6 is also expected to show up in storage capacities of upto 256 GB. Earlier leaks claim that the Mi 6 will launch in three different variants powered by either the Helio X30 chipset and Snapdragon 835 respectively. The Helio X30 variant is to be priced at RMB 1,999 ( Rs 19,600) and the variant with the top of the line Snapdragon 835 is expected at RMB 2,499 ( Rs 24,500). this one will also feature 4GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of  storage.

Xiaomi’s successor to the Mi 5, the Mi 6 will arrive on 6th feb if sources are to be believed. The company will be redesigning the phone to resemble the Mi Note 2 and will include features like IP68 waterproofing. Xiaomi is using the Snapdragon 835 chipset and will use upto 6GB of RAM in the base variant of the phone.

The Chinese smartphone maker will launch several variants of the Mi 6, including a Mi 6 Pro which will feature 236 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM.

According to reports the company has already started receiving shipments of the Snapdragon 835 chipset that it will install in its phones, making Xiaomi one of the first in this effort only after Samsung.

Xiaomi is expected to keep the same size dimensions as last year however, will now offer a QHD display with a 2560 x 1440 px resolution. Leaked photos of the Mi 6 show a metal cased back panel more close in design to HTC phones or the smaller iPhone SE.
