Nokia X6 Globally Debuting As The Nokia 6.1 Plus

When Nokia announced the mid-range Nokia X6 in China, people were expecting that the device will launch globally as well. The Nokia X6 starts at CNY 1,299 (Rs. 13,190.55 approx) and is on sale in China. Nokia has now launched the Nokia 6.1 Plus which is the Android One global variant of the Nokia X6. An Android One device is an unmodified variant of the Android OS, providing the device with a clean and bloatware-free experience. The Nokia 6.1 Plus is expected to go on sale on the 24th of July in Hong Kong, following which the phone will be available globally.

Most of the phones Nokia is launching belong to the mid-range segment, with the exception of phones like the Nokia 8 and the Nokia 8 Sirroco. And, the Nokia 6.1 Plus is yet another mid-range smartphone. While there are certain rumours which indicate a new Nokia flagship is on its way in 2018, Nokia has been catering more to the budget-friendly price segments in the recent years.

The display on the Nokia 6.1 Plus is a 5.8-inch IPS LCD display with a 2280 x 1080 px resolution. The aspect ratio of the device is 19:9. The device uses Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for its front and back glass panels and it also has an aluminium frame.  The smartphone is available in Black / Copper and White / Iron colour variants.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus is an Android One device which has the latest Android 8.1 (Oreo) out of the box. The device runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC. This is an octa-core 1.8 GHz Kryo 260 chipset paired with the Adreno 509 GPU.

The storage variant available globally for the Nokia 6.1 Plus is 64GB with 4GB RAM. While the internal storage is low, the smartphone allows you to use a MicroSD card of up to 400GB to expand storage.

The camera setup of the Nokia 6.1 Plus sports a total of three cameras. The primary camera setup has a 16MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture and a  5MP depth sensor with f/2.0 aperture. The secondary camera is a 16MP sensor with a f/2.0 aperture. Powering the smartphone is a 3,060 mAh Li-Ion battery.

Chipsets in smartphones are becoming powerful as well as power-efficient as they evolve further. While the Snapdragon 636 is a good SoC for a mid-range smartphone, Huawei offers AI-capabilities for the same price as well. A device like the Huawei Nova 3i uses the Kirin 710 SoC which can handle AI computation. The Nokia 6.1 Plus will most likely launch in India in the month of August or September. It will be interesting to see how well the smartphone does in the Indian market.

  • Nokia X5 Officially Launched In China On 18th July

Nokia X5 Officially Launched In China On 18th July

The Nokia X series was first introduced in February 2014 as Microsoft Mobile was marketing the Nokia X series at the time. The OS for these smartphones were based on Linux and had Android as its backbone. Now, HMD Global has reimagined the Nokia X series and after the Nokia X6  was released in China earlier this year, the Nokia X5 is the latest smartphone to launch in the Nokia X series. The smartphone launched on the 18th of July in China.

    Nokia X5

The Nokia X5 will feature Android 8.1 (Oreo) out of the box and HMD claims that it will receive an Android P update as soon as it is available. The smartphone features a 5.86-inch notch-display with a resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels. The aspect ratio of the device is 19:9 with a screen to body ratio of 79.6%. The smartphone has a 2.5D curved display which gives it an elegant and sleek look. The phone is covered with glass panels on both the front and rear. Complementing the glass panels is a plastic frame as well.

The Nokia X5 runs on a MediaTek MT6771 Helio P60 SoC. This is an octa-core chipset with four Cortex-A73 and four Cortex-A53 cores running at 2.0 GHz. The GPU for the device is the MaliG72 MP3. The device will be available in two storage variants. The 32GB storage variant will have 3GB RAM and the 64GB variant will have 4GB RAM.

There is a dual rear-facing and a single front-facing camera setup on the Nokia X5 as well. The rear camera has a 13 MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP depth sensor. The primary camera is capable of recording 1080p videos at 30fps. The front-facing camera is an 8MP sensor with a f/2.2 aperture.

Powering the smartphone is a 3,060 mAh Li-Ion battery.

The price for the Nokia X5 in China starts from CNY 999 (Rs. 10200.26 approx). If HMD Global releases the smartphone in India then we can expect the price to be close to its Chinese counterpart.

Clearly, the Nokia X5 offers a lot of features for its price. However, we still believe that the Nokia X5 will face tough competition in this price segment. How it fairs against other smartphone is something we will keep an eye out for.

Nokia X6 Launched in a Limited Polar White Color

HMD Global has launched a new Nokia X6 Polar White edition, which is now available for sale in China. However, this time, only the variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage is available for RMB 1,699 (approx Rs. 17,459). The Nokia X6 went on sale in China in the month of May for the first time and the smartphone sold out in a matter of seconds.

Although there is no word from HMD Global on when the Nokia X6 will hit the global market, those interested to purchase the phone can buy it from Chinese sites. Keep in mind that the websites are in Chinese and you may need a translation tool.

The Nokia X6 Polar White is an elegant looking smartphone with an aluminum frame and a glass body for both the front and rear panel. The glass gives the Nokia X6 a premium feel for a relatively cheap price.

The Nokia X6 has a 5.8 inch IPS LCD display with a 2280 x 1080 pixel resolution. This gives the smartphone an aspect ratio of 19:9, the same as the Huawei P20 Lite. There is also a notch on the display, which is the reason why the smartphone has a taller aspect ratio.

Must Read: Huawei P20 Lite Goes On Sale Before Launch

The Nokia X6 Polar White runs on the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset paired with the Adreno 509 GPU, as the other colour variants. The variant on sale has 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. There is another variant with 4GB RAM and 32GB storage. Nokia X6 has a microSD card slot allowing you to expand the storage up to 256GB. The fingerprint sensor is located on the back which has a glossy finish matching the overall glass design of the phone.

Nokia X6 uses a 3,060 mAh Li-ion battery and a USB C port for charging. The Nokia X6 Polar White runs a near stock Android 8.1 Oreo with minor tweaks done by HMD Global.

When HMD Global finally decides to launch the device in India, it will be interesting to see how the smartphone sales stack against offerings from other manufacturers. If the device is aimed at the sub Rs. 20,000 segment, it is a crowded market already dominated by the likes of Xiaomi and Motorola.

Top Upcoming Smartphones You Should Be Excited About

The year 2018 has given the world a ton of exciting new smartphones so far. With smartphones like the OnePlus 6 and Huawei P20 Pro, the anticipation of what’s to come in the future is really high. OnePlus managed to essentially sell more than Rs. 10 Crore worth of devices in the first ten minutes during the OnePlus 6 flash sale. Then the Huawei P20 Pro came in and disrupted the market with a triple camera setup. Naturally, we had to compile a list of the top upcoming smartphones in the next couple of weeks.

    1. Oppo Find X

The Oppo Find X is expected to release in India on July 12th and is expected to have a hefty price of Rs. 78,500. Oppo has managed to catch a lot of attention with the Find X. Even though it is not the first device without a notch and an almost bezel-less a display, Oppo Find X is still an exciting smartphone.

Must Read: OPPO Find X Will Have A Record Breaking 93.8% Screen-To-Body Ratio

The way Oppo got rid of the notch, was by introducing a motorized part which eloquently hides the front and rear cameras. The Oppo Find X features a 6.42 inch 2340 x 1080 pixel display with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. This translates to about 87% screen-to-body ratio.

The Oppo Find X runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset along with the Adreno 630 GPU. The primary camera on the Find X is in the pop-up mechanism, consisting of a dual camera setup with a 16MP 1/2.6″ sensor and a 20MP 1/2.8″ sensor both with an f/2.0 aperture. The primary camera setup will have Optical Image Stabilization. The front facing selfie camera is also housed in the pop-up mechanism and is a 20MP  sensor with an f/2.0 aperture.

The Find X has two colour variants namely, Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue. The interesting design of the phone make it one of the most exciting and worth top upcoming smartphones this quarter.

    2. Vivo NEX
    Top Upcoming Smartphones
    Vivo NEX

The Vivo NEX with a similar pop up camera design is expected to launch on 19th July in India starting at a considerably lower price Rs. 47,999. The Vivo NEX is yet another smartphone with an almost entire screen at the front of the device. Here, it uses the same concept of a motorized part for the camera only to achieve a notch-free and a nearly bezel-less display much like the Oppo Find X above. However, Vivo decided to only house the front-facing camera which comes out of the top of the phone and slides back in when not in use.

    Vivo Nex With Camera Deployed

The Vivo NEX features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset which is paired with the Adreno 630 GPU. The smartphone sports a Super AMOLED 6.59 inch 2316 x 1080 pixel  display with an aspect ratio of 18:9.

The camera setup on the Vivo NEX consists of dual 12MP and 8MP camera with f/1.8 and f/2.4 aperture respectively. The secondary camera is a single 8MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture. The primary camera on this device also features OIS. A motorized part in a portable device is a risky move, regardless, the Vivo NEX is still one of the most exciting upcoming smartphones.

    3. BlackBerry Key2
    Top Upcoming Smartphones
    BlackBerry Key2

The BlackBerry Key2 is all set to go on sale from 13th July in the United States and is expected in India Mid-End July. BlackBerry launched the Key2 on June 7th after the KeyOne incurred a price cut. This is again among the exciting upcoming smartphones, and the only modern smartphone with a full physical QWERTY Keyboard.

The BlackBerry Key2 has a 4.5  inch  1620 x 1080 pixels IPS LCD display with an aspect ratio of 3:2. The Key2 is expected to launch in two storage variants; 64GB or 128GB paired with 6GB of RAM. The processing speed is provided by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset and the Adreno 512 GPU, faster than the SoC of the KeyOne. The Key2 sports a relatively large 3,500 mAh battery. An exciting option for those who love tactile feedback.

    4. Nokia X6

After being surrounded by rumors and speculations, the Nokia X6 is finally launching Globally on 19th July and is expected to come to India soon after. It could be among the top upcoming smartphones of this month. Nokia has  tapped into the notch trend with the X6. Despite its premium look, the Nokia X6 was launched in China at a rather affordable CNY 1,499 ( Approx Rs. 15,500). Hopefully Nokia will keep similar pricing for global and Indian launches.

The Nokia X6 has a 5.8 inch IPS LCD display with 2280 x 1080 pixels and a 19:9 ratio. Because of the notch, the screen to body ratio of the Nokia X6 is approximately 80.3%. The device runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset and the Adreno 509 GPU. Powering the phone is a 3,060 mAh Li-ion battery.

    5. Samsung Galaxy Note 9

Samsung is ready to launch a new smartphone in its Galaxy Note lineup. The Galaxy Note 9 is expected to arrive on 9th August and it is also one of the top upcoming smartphones. According to some reports, the Note 9 will follow the Note 8 in the design department but, there could be some minor changes in its aesthetics.

As suggested by the Twitter user Ice Universe, the S Pen for the Galaxy Note 9 could be first of its kind with Bluetooth connectivity and will users to control long-range self-timer, control music playback.

We can expect that the Galaxy Note 9 will have a 6.4 inch Super AMOLED display with at least 2960 x 1440 pixel resolution and an 18.5:9 aspect ratio, similar to the one found on the galaxy Note 8. Ice Universe also speculated that the Galaxy Note 9 will pack a 4,000 mAh battery.

    6. Moto G6 Plus

Motorola claims that it has sold over 70 million G series phones worldwide and now the company is planning to release yet another G series phone in India, the G6 Plus. The phone is expected to be launched end July.

The Moto G6 Plus has a 5.9 inch IPS LCD display with a 2160 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The Moto G6 Plus might launch in two variants in India, one with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage and the other with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The SoC on the G6 Plus 6GB variant is allegedly going to be the Snapdragon 660 ( for the Indian market) along with the Adreno 512 GPU.

The innovation in the smartphone industry has picked up the pace in the recent years. If 2018 is anything to go by, then the next few years will be very exciting for any smartphone enthusiast. So, stay tuned to iGyaan to also catch the latest tech news and trends.

  • Nokia 5.1 Plus Global Unveiling in China On July 11th

Nokia 5.1 Plus Global Unveiling in China On July 11th

The fresh line of Nokia smartphones launching under the HMD Global umbrella has a new addition, the Nokia 5.1 Plus. Nokia fans witnessed smartphones in the flagship as well as the mid-range section which turned a lot of heads. Smartphones like the Nokia 7, 7 Plus, and the Nokia 8 Sirroco which launched in the month of April this year, have become a benchmark for what the company has to offer. To that list, HMD Global is expected to add a couple more smartphones this month and one of them will be the Nokia 5.1 Plus. The company has teased its launch for the 11th of July in China.

    Nokia X6

The phone could also launch under the alias of Nokia X5. Leaks for the smartphone started when a poster was released on Baidu. This leak was followed by an official post from Nokia on Weibo which suggests that the Nokia 5.1 Plus is all set to launch in China at 8 PM (IST: 5.30 PM) as the Nokia X5. Nokia 5.1 Plus will cater to the budget-oriented audience as per the leaks, starting at approximately CNY 799 (Rs. 8,300 approx.). Although the phone will sport a notch and an almost bezel-less display, it is still expected to keep the chin which many other Android smartphone manufacturers haven’t been able to get rid of yet.

    Nokia 5.1 Plus

We expect that the Nokia 5.1 Plus will launch in 3, 4, and 6GB RAM variants coupled with either 32GB or a 64GB internal storage. The onboard chipset will be an octa-core processor however the chip manufacturer is not yet specified. With that said, if Qualcomm provides the SoC then the phone may have a Snapdragon 600 series processor.

The specifications of the Nokia 5.1 Plus suggest that it might be a mid-range smartphone. The phone is expected to have a 5.86-inch display and a 19:9 aspect ratio. This is rumored to be an HD+ TFT panel which puts the resolution at 1520 x 720 pixels. The smartphone is expected to have a rear-facing dual camera setup consisting of a 13 MP primary and an 8MP secondary sensor. There is no word on whether these cameras will have any sort of image stabilisation technology but, given the price range of the device, we speculate that there won’t be any.

In the budget-oriented line of smartphones, the competition for manufacturers is a tough nut to crack. Especially with Xiaomi leading the Indian market in the mid-range sector, it will be interesting to see how the Nokia 5.1 Plus fairs against the competition and whether the company decides to launch it in India in the first place.

  • Nokia X6 India Launch Confirmed As Its Support Page Goes Live On Nokia India Website

Nokia X6 India Launch Confirmed As Its Support Page Goes Live On Nokia India Website

HMD Global launched the Nokia X6 in May in China. At the time of its launch, the smartphone garnered some interest for its design and price point. The Nokia X6 is the first Nokia branded smartphone to sport a notched display, much like the majority of 2018 Android smartphones. The Nokia X6 has been rumoured to launch in other countries for a while and now, Nokia India’s website has seemingly confirmed that it’ll launch in India by making its support page live.

Interestingly, the Nokia X6 is also a throwback to the Nokia X6 which was a Symbian OS running mobile launched in 2009. The support page is still live and has not been taken down by the company yet. This could be an indication of HMD Global’s plans of creating a hype around its budget smartphone. The X6 is expected to launch in India to compete with the likes of the Redmi Note 5 Pro, Zenfone Max Pro and even Huawei P20 Lite.

The X6 has a 5.8 inch TFT display with a 2280 x 1080 px resolution. This translates into a 19:9 aspect ratio, the same as the P20 Lite. There is also a notch on the display, which is the reason why the smartphone has a taller aspect ratio.

The smartphone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset along with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM coupled with either 32GB or 64GB of onboard storage. The onboard storage will be expandable via microSD card. The fingerprint sensor is placed on the back which has a glossy finish thanks to an all-glass design.

Powering the device is a 3060 mAh battery which charges via a USB C port. We are still a couple of years away from budget smartphones adopting the USB C port altogether but, this is a great step by HMD Global. Out of the box, the Nokia X6 will run stock-ish Android 8.1 Oreo with little customisations done by HMD Global.

The vertically placed dual-camera setup is in the usual Nokia position but, the “Carl Zeiss” branding is missing. The back has a 16MP primary sensor along with a 5MP secondary sensor. The dual-camera setup will be able to take portrait shots, a feature that has become very popular recently. The front houses as a 16MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture.

The Nokia X6, if priced correctly, should be a great smartphone for Indian consumers. At a price of about Rs 16999, it’ll offer a premium all-glass design and the popular Snapdragon 636 chipset as well.

  • Nokia X6 Could Soon Launch In India, Global Variant Gets NCC Certification

Nokia X6 Could Soon Launch In India, Global Variant Gets NCC Certification

It is hard to fathom that the company is still launching new devices regularly after it unveiled five new smartphones at MWC 2018. The Nokia X6 is one of the new ones. The Nokia X6 is also hands down one of the most exciting smartphones launched by HMD Global this year. It was launched in China last month and is expected to make its global debut soon. That debut might be closer than we thought as a global variant of the budget device has passed through NCC in Taiwan.

NCC is similar to China’s TENNA. Every electronic device to launch in Taiwan has to be certified by NCC first. A new report by DealnTech claims that HMD Global plans on launching the X6 first in Taiwan (apart from China, of course). Taiwan is expected to be one of the many countries where HMD Global will launch its new budget smartphone.

The company will take heart from the fact that the Nokia X6 has been well-received in China. The world’s largest smartphone market does not have a dearth of options in price category with companies like Xiaomi, Huawei continuously launching China-exclusive devices. The Snapdragon 636-powered Nokia X6 has gained a lot of popularity in the country and HMD Global would like to replicate similar success in countries like India.

India, just like China, also has a very congested budget smartphone category. In fact, the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Asus Zenfone Max Pro, two popular budget smartphones in India are also powered by the Snapdragon 636 SoC. This means that the Nokia X6 will have to be priced very competitively to stand any chance in India. It has an all-glass build which, on paper, looks better than the aluminium unibody design of the Redmi Note 5 Pro and Asus Zenfone Max Pro.

    [amazon_link asins=’B077PWJP92′ template=’ProductAd’ store=’igyaan-21′ marketplace=’IN’ link_id=’aacb5ead-6e00-11e8-8b66-bf00c0148e28′]

The notched budget device from HMD Global has a 5.8 inch TFT display with a 2280 x 1080 px resolution.

Out of the box, the Nokia X6 will run stock-ish Android 8.1 Oreo with little customisations done by HMD Global. The back has a 16MP primary sensor along with a 5MP secondary sensor. The dual-camera setup will be able to take portrait shots, a feature that has become very popular recently. The front houses as a 16MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture.

The Nokia X6, if priced close to Rs 15000 to 16000, should be a great contender. However, HMD Global has missed the mark with its pricing in India so far.

  • Nokia X6 Will Launch In India Soon

Nokia X6 Will Launch In India Soon

HMD Global launched its new budget smartphone in China on May 16th. On the same day, OnePlus also launched the OnePlus 6 and it appeared that the Nokia X6 would not get the attention it deserves. However, that does not appear to be true as many people want the Nokia X6 to be launched in more countries other than just China.

Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global ran a poll on Twitter, asking people if they want a global launch of the Nokia X6. This wouldn’t normally happen and Juho did this because they obviously saw the traction that the China launch of the Nokia X6 received. It is also unlikely that a company would take an expensive decision like this based on a Twitter poll. The focal point here is that the company is willing to launch the Nokia X6 globally, and India could be one of the countries.

India is one of the largest smartphone markets in the world. Moreover, the demand for budget smartphones under Rs 20000 is higher than that of a premium device. The Nokia X6 slots in perfectly here and if the company gets the pricing right, it could be a great alternative to the Redmi Note 5 Pro which is so hard to buy via the flash sales.

The Nokia X6 has a 5.8 inch TFT display with a 2280 x 1080 px resolution.

HMD Global will have to learn from its previous offerings in India and nail the pricing with the Nokia X6. It looks like a great device with its TFT display being the only drawback. However, if priced at under Rs 15000, not many people would be complaining about it.

  • Nokia X Will Run On The Qualcomm Snapdragon 636

Nokia X Will Run On The Qualcomm Snapdragon 636

HMD Global is preparing to launch its new budget smartphone, the Nokia X in China. It is possible that it will be launched as the Nokia X6, reviving a popular moniker from the days when Nokia was the most successful phone maker. The Nokia X or Nokia X6 has been leaked in abundance so far and the new Geekbench listing confirms an important aspect of the device.

According to the Geekbench listing of the Nokia X6, the upcoming smartphone will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset. The variant listed here has 6GB of RAM but, a 4GB RAM variant is also expected to launch. Nokia is known to keep the OS close to stock Android so it isn’t surprising that the X6 will run the latest version of Android OS, Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.

The Snapdragon 636 chipset has been quite successful in devices so far. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro was the first smartphone to run on the chipset and has been well-received in India for its performance. The Redmi Note 5 pro competitor, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro also runs on the Snapdragon 636 chipset. The Nokia X6, like the Zenfone Max Pro, will also run close to stock Android OS for an even better performance of the SoC.

The X6 will sport a 5.8 inch TFT display with a 2280 x 1080 px resolution. This translates into a 19:9 aspect ratio, the same as the P20 Lite. There is also a notch on the display, which could be the reason why the smartphone has a taller aspect ratio. The vertically placed dual-camera setup is in the usual Nokia position but, the “Carl Zeiss” branding is missing.

It is also rumoured that the Nokia X6 will be priced at CNY 1499 (Rs 15,700 approx.), which is a great price for the specifications that the Nokia X6 has. If the X6 is launched in India and HMD Global prices at about Rs 15000, the Nokia X6 could be a great smartphone, especially with its all-glass build and design.
