Huawei Working On Smartphone With 16MP Pop-Up Camera And 4,000 mAh Battery

Chinese smartphone company Huawei is currently riding high on the success of the P30 Pro, which has one of the best optical systems in a smartphone till date. The company is known for innovating new technologies in their devices time and again. As per sources, Huawei is working on two new smartphones, which are the P Smart Z and P Smart X. Moreover, the P Smart Z will be the first smartphone from Huawei to feature a pop-up camera mechanism for the front camera.

Huawei P Smart Z: Features, Specifications & Availability

Reports state that the Chinese company first filed a trademark for the aforementioned devices in the month of March 2019. The P Smart Z features a large 6.59 inch display with a FullHD+ resolution, which it attains due to the pop-up camera. Just like Chinese competitors Oppo and Vivo, Huawei seems to be following the trend of a notch-less smartphone. Reports further mention that its display panel has a resolution of 2340 x 1080 px and a pixel density of 391 ppi.

Under the hood, the Huawei P Smart Z runs on the 14nm HiSilicon Kirin 710 chipset, which comprises of an octa-core CPU and the Mali-G51 MP4 GPU. It is bundled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, with microSD card support up to 512GB. The P Smart Z packs a huge 4,000 mAh battery. As deduced from the renders of the device, it has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Furthermore, Huawei has retained the 3.5mm headphone jack in the P Smart Z.

In terms of optics, the smartphone features a dual camera system, which consists of an f/1.8 aperture equipped 16MP primary camera and an f/2.4 aperture equipped 2 MP sensor. The pop-up mechanism houses the 16MP (f/2.0) selfie camera. The phone measures at 163.5 x 77.3 x 8.9 mm and weighs at 197 grams. It runs on Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box, which will supposedly be topped off with EMUI (Huawei’s custom skin). As of now, no official pricing and availability details are available, but sources suggest that the smartphone will be priced somewhere around €210 (roughly INR 16,400) at the time of launch. It will be available in three colour options: Black, Green and Blue.

OnePlus 7 Leaks Show Pop-Up Selfie Camera, Triple Rear Camera

Treading on the success path of the OnePlus 6 and 6T, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is expected to launch the OnePlus 7 in the second quarter of 2019. The device will supposedly launch beside a 5G OnePlus smartphone, the likes of which were unveiled at the MWC 2019. Fresh leaks suggest that the OnePlus 7 will sport a pop-up selfie camera, similar to the one present in Vivo Nex (which was released last year).

Leaks: Camera & Display

As per the leaks, the OnePlus 7 features a bezel-less 6.5 inch display, which can be an Optic AMOLED panel similar to the one in OnePlus 6T. The screen tapers towards the edges, with no visible notch or ‘punch hole’. As mentioned before, a motorized selfie camera pops up from an enclosure on top of the smartphone. The specifications of the selfie shooter, however, are not available as of now.

The leaked renders also show a triple rear camera setup. The three sensors are aligned vertically, with the LED flash placed just below the cameras. The predecessor of the OnePlus 7 had a dual camera module, which was housed in a 16 MP+20 MP configuration. It is possible that the third camera sensor being introduced in the OnePlus 7 is a ToF (Time of flight) sensor, which is seen on smartphones from both Oppo and Vivo.

Leaks: Design

The left edge of the smartphone has the volume rockers, whereas the right side accommodates the power button and the alert slider. No rear fingerprint sensor was spotted in the leaks, so this may hint towards the fact that the OnePlus 7 may support a similar in display fingerprint scanner to the OnePlus 6T. Furthermore, no 3.5 mm headphone jack is spotted in the images, but there is nothing surprising about that since the previous iteration lacked the same. A standard USB Type C port is present on the device, right next to the speaker and the microphone.

The OnePlus 7 was previously leaked on March 1, which led to the reveal of the smartphone’s front panel. The next ‘flagship killer’ is expected to have top-of-the-line specifications. Since the 5G prototype at the MWC 2019 featured the Snapdragon 855, the same chipset is presumed to be seen in the OnePlus 7. A launch date for the device is still pending, but as mentioned before, OnePlus has a six-month refresh cycle for releasing new smartphones. Hence, the device may be slated to launch in Q2 of this year.

Vivo V15 Pro With Pop-Up Selfie Camera Launched In India

Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has launched its latest mid-range offering, the Vivo V15 Pro in India today, February 20. The device features a 32MP pop-up selfie camera and triple rear cameras. The placement of the front-facing camera gives the device an edge-to-edge screen with a high screen to body ratio.

Build & Features

The Vivo V15 Pro measures 157.25 x 4.71 x 8.21mm and weighs in at 185 grams. On the front of the device sits a 2.5D, 6.39-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 px. The top of the device has a 32MP, mechanical pop-up camera that can also capture 1080p videos at 30 fps. For securely and swiftly unlocking the device, it also has an in-display fingerprint sensor and also supports Face Unlock technology.

The rear panel of the V15 Pro has an attractive appearance with a gradient finish. The back of the smartphone houses the triple camera setup, which comprises of a 48MP f/1.8 sensor combined with an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide sensor and a 5MP f/2.4 depth sensor for portrait mode. For connectivity, the Vivo V15 Pro features dual 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, 802.11 Wi-Fi, GPS, and a bottom mounted Micro-USB port for charging and data syncing. The device also has a 3.5mm audio jack on the top.

In terms of storage, the Vivo V15 Pro has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The device also supports memory expansion up to 256 GB via the dedicated MicroSD card slot. Under the hood, the device packs the Snapdragon 675 SoC. The chipset is manufactured using 11 nm manufacturing technology and it comprises of an Octa-core CPU and Adreno 612 GPU. The device is powered by a 3700 mAh battery that supports Vivo’s dual engine fast charging. The dual engine technology allows the smartphone to be charged with 18 watts of maximum power

The Vivo V15 Pro has been launched in India for the price of Rs 28,990. It is available for pre-order starting today while the deliveries will commence from the 6th of March. The handset will be available from both online and offline channels.

Samsung Galaxy A90 To Have A Pop Up Selfie Camera

Smartphone makers have used clever techniques to avoid the controversial notch design in their products. Some companies have used a second display, or have used a punch hole display to house the selfie camera. But the most interesting solution has to be, the use of pop up cameras. first seen in the Vivo NEX and the Oppo Find X. Samsung has so far avoided the notch, did cave to it for its budget Galaxy M series. Looks like Samsung is trying to think of better ways to avoid the notch again with the introduction of a pop up selfie camera. The Smartphone with this feature is called the Galaxy A90

Pop-Up Selfie Cameras In Smartphones

Pop up selfie cameras are a year old concept at this point. First shown off by Vivo at CES 2018, the first smartphone was the Vivo Apex concept smartphone. The first commercial smartphone to feature a mechanical pop-up selfie camera was the Vivo NEX S. Oppo one-upped Vivo by launching a mechanical slider to hide both the cameras. Not many smartphone makers since have toyed with the idea but many are soon expected to launch smartphones with the feature.

Samsung launching a pop up selfie camera smartphone may be a big deal for the industry. A big smartphone maker jumping into the trend could see more mainstream phones with the feature. And while we don’t have much information about the Galaxy A90 right now, the guys over at TrendingLeaks have made up a concept on how the Galaxy A90 may look like.

Samsung seems to be taking risks in 2019. It may be a good thing for the brand because they can afford to take a few missteps. And if this direction means we get to a bezel less smartphone sooner or later, it may very well be worth it.

ASUS May Launch Zenfone With Pop Up Camera And Punch Hole Camera

The Asus Zenfone series has been one of the most popular smartphones in the budget segment for quite a while now. With the latest device, Asus carries forward the tradition of big batteries, good camera performance and a great performance. However, here is some news that can make the upcoming series of Asus Zenfone smartphones even more appealing. A patent from the smartphone company shows that it is working on two new possible Zenfone designs. These include one with a pop up camera and one with a punch hole camera.

The patent was filed with the EUIPO earlier this year and have just recently been published. They show many smartphone designs, all of them without bezels or a notch. The first design shows a smartphone with a pop up camera. This means that the screen will be totally bezel-less and will have a sliding compartment on the top. This will house the single or even dual front cameras. It is still not clear as to whether this will be a manual slider or will be mechanised like on the Vivo Nex.

Additionally, the patent also talks about a second design with a punch hole camera or a camera cut out. This patent was submitted in Germany while the previous one was submitted in France. This design shows an Asus smartphone with a hole in the top left of its display. And it houses a single front facing camera. This technology is already seen in the Samsung Galaxy A8s, which was launched recently.

With the advent of mobile technology, every manufacturer is looking to beat the competition with something unique. This includes unique and sometimes even quirky design elements such as the camera cut out or the pop up camera to grab attention. Whether a smartphone will really make a mark in the market ultimately depends on the features it packs and its price.
