Back to the Basics : BlackBerry Goes Retro with the Launch of ‘The Classic’

Struggling phone manufacturer Blackberry today officially announced ‘The Classic’, probably a last throw of the dice to save the company going into complete oblivion. The company has high hopes from the newly launched Blackberry classic, which sports a full QWERTY keypad mirroring the design which made Blackberry a market leader during its heyday. Notably, the Classic is significantly smaller than the BlackBerry Passport, which the company launched earlier this year . The Classic is aimed at customers looking for that original BlackBerry experience.

The phone sports a 3.5 inch square touchscreen with a resolution of 720×720 pixels, unlike the 4.5 inch screen of the Passport. Thus, it makes for easy one handed usage with the physical QWERTY on-board. On the inside, the phone will be powered by a dual-core Qualcomm processor bundled with 2GB of RAM. Hence, the phone is not meant for running those high-end gaming titles, but more for browsing and surfing.

In addition, the phone also sports an 8MP primary camera along with a 2 MP front cam. The Classic runs on the BlackBerry 10 OS, though it can also run Android apps which are accessible via Amazon’s Appstore which come pre-loaded on the device. Along with that, the Canadian manufacturer has added the BrickBreaker game on the Classic, which should encourage the BlackBerry fans.

    blackberry-classic

Though, the Classic may not appeal to today’s digital savvy generation; as it’s made for people who long for the retro BlackBerry experience. The company says ‘The Classic’ is available starting today “through local carriers around the world,” and AT&T and Verizon have confirmed they will sell the device in 2015, though carrier pricing has yet to be announced. The Classic is also available unlocked through BlackBerry and Amazon’s online stores for $449.

As of now, there’s no information regarding The Classic’s price and availability in India, stay tuned with iGyaan to know when and at what price this device will enter Indian soil.

  • Blackberry R10 leaks before next weeks conference

Blackberry R10 leaks before next weeks conference

The Blackberry R10 is supposedly going to be a cheaper alternative to the Q10 with almost the exact same features, minus the multimedia benefits, if DGtle is to be believed. The Blackberry R10 will have the same 3.1-inch screen size and 2GB of RAM as the Blackberry Q10. However, the R10 reportedly steps down to a 5-megapixel camera in addition to previously hinted cutbacks in storage (to 8GB) and battery (to 1,800mAh).

Blackberry (Previously RIM) pegged big hopes on their new range of Blackberry 10 devices, but as the sales reports for the company are lower than ever, a quick shift in policy and strategy may help the company come back from its current situation. Blackberry may need to retarget the lower end of the spectrum with budget Blackberry 10 devices, making the masses once again appreciate the company.

Leaked : Samsung Galaxy M Pro II GT-B7810

    Galaxy M Pro II

The Samsung Galaxy M Pro was Samsung’s answer to a possible end of time for Blackberry, for those who were shifting over to Android anyway. The Galaxy M Pro II sequel to the original should expect a bunch of changes. As apparent from the image, the phone will have a completely new trackpad and keyboard design. The Samsung Galaxy M Pro II will also feature a new shell, or mostly an upgraded color with a metal-effect design.

Rumors are pegging the display back to the original version with a 4×3 grid and a 480 x 360 capacitive touchscreen. It is also know that the phone will now be running Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0, juiced from a 1,200mAh battery, HSPA 3G and has a micro-SIM slot.

The device has been in schedule for the past 6 months offering a more keyboard and trackpad controlled design and UI, but it is known if the GT-B7810 will make it to the market or not.

Is Google owned Motorola making a Facebook phone?

Dirty Devils – do we all know that Google and Facebook essentially hate each other since the invent of Google Plus? But, new information has come into play : Google’s recent expensive endeavor is making a device dedicated to serve the rival company Facebook. The EX225, likely a feature phone that’s based on BREW OS is being touted as a QWERTY device with a dedicated Facebook button, something quite similar to our friend the ChaCha (sans touch screen and Android)

For the technically sound the device includes a 2.4-inch TFT-LCD display, a 3 megapixel camera and five row QWERTY keyboard and will be available in 2 variants dual-sim and single-sim. One this is for sure you can expect this device to do well in India, and you can expect a full feature on this iGyaan style.

HTC Chacha Unboxing and Quick Review

HTC has launched the ChaCha in the Indian market, with hopes of capturing a different segment of the crowd. With Blackberry phones including the new 9900 with touch and type coming in at a premium one can only wonder if the target audience is looking for an alternative.

Here are some of the specs of the HTC ChaCha:

    • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
    • HTC Sense 2.1 for Keyboard devices ( variant of 3.0)
    • 800Mhz Processor
    • 512MB RAM
    • Front Facing Camera (WiFi Video Calls)
    • 5 Megapixel Camera
    • HSDPA 7.2mb/s
    • Bluetooth 3.0
    • 802.11 B/G/N WiFi
    • GPS
The device is extremely well built with metal and plastic accents the construction is robust and almost robot-like. The shape and form factor is also kind of new with the forward tilted screen and new design qwerty keyboard.
This is also possibly the only other Android device to have a dedicated Facebook button. Which is what also makes it a young persons phone, while remaining a strong competitor in the business smartphone market.

    Full Review

Although priced at Rs. 7,500, the phone does not offer too many features. One can get decent Android phones for around that price. So why would anybody consider this phone? Well for starters overly-smart operating systems (read android) require constant attention and care, consume a lot of battery and become the centre of your life. Some people still like to buy phones for their basic abilities.

The txt pro offers basics with a little bit of add ons , you do get all your social networks included – Facebook, Orkut, twitter and Picasa apps come preloaded. Allowing you to fully utilize the qwerty keyboard for chatting messaging and emailing. The device also features WiFi connectivity , but unfortunately has no 3G.

The touchscreen is a capacitive screen and is extremely responsive, the UI is easy on the eyes and  breeze to use. The camera is a simple 3.2 MP fixed focus camera and does not deliver great pictures.

Our recommendation is that for this price be a little thrill seeking and make the switch to Android, and get a different device, Optimus One, Galaxy Pop, Galaxy 551, Mini, or even the Dell XCD 35. The phones will actually make you happy.

This phone (Txt Pro) is extremely loud and an excellent phone, but why buy it when you can get much more.

Known specs include Android 2.3 gingerbread a 2.8 inch QVGA touchscreen and a 3.2 MP camera. All of this will run on a 800MHZ processor and 256mb of RAM. The device has a nice Candy Bar design and should fare well against competition if the pricing is right. Currently it sells for €179 which seems a tad bit high.

Our present need for internet connectivity is so profound that secondary devices like the Nextep Computer are bound to happen. Earmarked for the year 2020, features like a holographic projector (for screen), pull-out extra keyboard panels and social networking compatibility, make the concept plausible. Nine years from now is not too far away, so how many of you think we’d be buying such gadgets?
