  • Apple iPhone X Was The Best Selling Smartphone In Q1 Of 2018

Apple iPhone X Was The Best Selling Smartphone In Q1 Of 2018

Launched in September of 2017 for a whopping US$ 999 starting price, the Apple iPhone X had its fair share of doubters. The new design complete with a notch initially did not impress many. The iPhone X also did not have the famed Touch ID and was replaced Apple’s own facial recognition system, now known as Face ID. With so many changes and a record high price, the iPhone X was still the best selling smartphone of Q1 of 2018.

    Apple

In a new report by Strategy Analytics, Apple sold 16 million units of the iPhone X in the quarter, making it the best selling smartphone. Apple did announce record profits for the quarter and Tim Cook claimed that the Apple iPhone was the best selling smartphone in many markets. Apple announced quarterly revenue of US$ 61.1 billion, a year-over-year growth of 16% which is much higher than its street estimates.

A close second on the list of best selling smartphones was the iPhone 8 with 12.5 million units. The iPhone 8 Plus, launched along with the iPhone 8 and iPhone X was the third best selling smartphone with 8.3 million units sold. At number four on the list was the iPhone 7, a smartphone launched in 2016, with 5.6 million units sold during the quarter.

    iPhone 8, 8 Plus

Xiaomi’s “Desh Ka Smartphone” Redmi 5A was fifth on the list with 5.4 million units sold. Credit has to be given to the Samsung Galaxy S9 for coming in sixth on the list. The smartphone was launched in late-February and went on sale in March. In all, the top six smartphones accounted for 1 in every 7 smartphones shipped in the world during the quarter.

    Redmi 5A

It is a mind-boggling statistic that the top five best selling smartphones were from the same company, Apple. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, which were believed to be unimpressive when compared to the iPhone X managed to be among the best selling smartphones of the quarter. This report also contradicts many claims from analysts that the Apple iPhone X is not in demand anymore and the Apple is planning to stop the production of the iPhone X.

  • Top Xiaomi Smartphones In India Right Now

Top Xiaomi Smartphones In India Right Now

Not so slowly, Xiaomi has gone on to become one of the most successful smartphone brands in India. A market that is so price sensitive, Xiaomi seems to have cracked the code to succeed here. Every few months, the company launches a smartphone that in one way or another, is a great device for its price bracket.

Apart from just launching budget devices, the company has introduced some great high-end smartphones as well. But, with so many Xiaomi smartphones in the India market right now, which ones are the best? Let’s take a look!

    Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

The priciest Xiaomi smartphone available in India, the Mi Mix 2 was launched in October 2017. At the time of its launch, it had the best “design+specs” combination under Rs. 40,000. The OnePlus 5 looked archaic when put next to the Mi Mix 2 and the LG G6 had an older chipset. However, the launch of the OnePlus 5T changed that a bit. Even though the OnePlus 5T was launched in November, the Mi Mix 2 continues to be a great device at a price of Rs. 35999.

The Mi Mix 2 has a stunning tri-bezel less design with a ceramic back panel. This means that the Mi Mix 2 is a fingerprint magnet but, due to a darker shade, the fingerprints aren’t too prominent. It is also much more compact than the Mi Mix of 2016.

It has a 5.99 inch 2160 x 1080 px LCD display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Xiaomi reverted to an 18:9 aspect ratio since the Mi Mix had a 17:9 aspect ratio. Also, in 2017, the 18:9 aspect ratio became the norm for flagship devices.

Under the hood, the flagship smartphone has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, Adreno 540 GPU, 6GB RAM and storage options of 64GB, 128GB or 256GB. The smartphone sports a 12MP Sony IMX386 sensor with 1.25-micron pixels, an f/2.0 aperture 4-axis optical image stabilisation, 5-piece lens, and facial recognition. On the front is a 5MP which features facial recognition as well.

    Xiaomi Mi A1

    Xiaomi Mi A1

The Mi A1 is the only Xiaomi device in India that runs stock Android OS. At a price of Rs. 13999, the Mi A1 continues to be a fan-favourite and there isn’t much wrong with the device. It has a great dual-camera setup, a reliable Snapdragon 625 chipset and is even available in a red colour variant now. The Honor 7X has a more modern design, however, it runs EMUI which might not be everyone’s cup of tea.

The Mi A1 has a 5.5 inch LTPS display with a 1920 x 1080 px resolution. The smartphone has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, 8x ARM Cortex A53 2.0GHz 64-bit processor, 4GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage which is expandable via microSD card.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 has a 12MP equipped with a wide-angle lens with an f/2.2 aperture while the other one is a 12MP telephoto lens with an f/2.6 aperture. For landscape shots, Xiaomi has introduced a wide angle lens while on the front is a 5MP camera.

    Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

The most successful Xiaomi smartphone by the company’s own admission, the Redmi Note 4 continues to do well in the Indian market. The Redmi Note 4 was launched in early-2017 and had astonishing specifications for a smartphone priced at around Rs. 10,000. It sold like hotcakes in India and it is evident that consumers are eagerly waiting for the Redmi Note 5 to launch in India.

The Redmi Note 4 has a 5.5 inch LCD display which has good visibility indoor and outdoor, along with wide viewing angles. Under the hood, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB of storage.

The front houses a 5 MP camera, and the rear a 13 MP shooter with decent colour optimisations.

    Xiomi Redmi 5A

At a price of Rs. 4999, the Redmi 5A is as good a smartphone you can get. When HMD Global launched the Nokia 2 at a price of Rs. 6999 running on Snapdragon 212, the Redmi 5A was launched with the Snapdragon 425 chipset.

The Redmi 5A has a 5 inch LCD display with a 1280 x 720 px resolution. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset, has a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.4GHz, along with 2GB/3GB of RAM, 16GB/32GB of onboard storage which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card. The dual-SIM Redmi 5A is powered by a 3000 mAh battery.

The Redmi 5A has a 13MP rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture, burst mode, panorama mode, HDR mode, and more. To the front is a 5MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture. The smartphone records 1920 x 1080 px videos.

    Xiaomi Mi Max 2

As bezels get thinner, the lines between a smartphone and phablet become blurier. However, the Mi Miax 2 continues to be a true blue phablet in the Indian market. With great battery life, the Mi Max 2 is ideal for people whose primary media consumption happens on a smartphone. It is priced at Rs. 13999 for the 32GB storage variant and is worth the price!

The Mi Max 2 has a unibody metal design along with a 6.44-inch display with a 1920 x 1080 px resolution.

It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, has 3GB or 4GB of RAM along with 32GB or 64 of onboard storage.

To the back of the phone is a 12MP camera and the front houses a 5MP camera.

Hands down, one of the most famous smartphones to be launched in 2017, the Redmi Note 4 set the standard for budget phones in India. To Xiaomi’s own admission, the Redmi Note 4 is its most successful phone in India and it still offers a lot in terms of performance in this price category.

The Redmi Note 4  has a 5.5 inch 1920 x 1080 px IPS LCD display.

Under the hood, the device has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset, Adreno 506 GPU, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card.

The phone also runs Android 7.1.1 out of the box and should be updated to the next generation Android by the company, as the UI is mostly stock with some Moto features including the Moto display, some gestures and One-Key Navigation. The front also has a fingerprint sensor along with notification led light.

The Moto E4 Plus is powered by a massive 5000 mAh battery.

With the Redmi 5A in picture, it looks to be a better choice than the Redmi Y1 Lite and the Nokia 2. It has more RAM and storage at the same price but, Nokia 2 continues to rule the battery department.

If stock Android is your thing and you can deal with a much slower chipset, then the Nokia 2 makes more sense. But, if you go by performance stand point and nothing else, the Redmi 5A is the clear winner here.

At a glance, or even a closer look, you’ll barely be able to make out the difference between the two phones. But, the most important factor in favour of the Redmi 5A is its price. In this world of every successor becoming more expensive, it is astonishing how Xiaomi has reduced the price for the base model while maintaining all the other features of the Redmi 4A.

The only reason you should upgrade to the Redmi 5A if you own a Redmi 4A is if you miss the dual SIM slot and microSD card slot. Other than that, there is barely anything keeping the two phones apart.

New Redmi Phone And MIUI 9 Global ROM Coming To India On 2nd November

Xiaomi has announced that its latest version of custom skin, MIUI 9 will be launched in India on the 2nd of November along with a new smartphone which will focus on selfies. MIUI India took to Twitter to announce that MIUI 9 will enter the Indian market on the 2nd of November.

This means that all eligible Mi and Redmi phones will eventually receive the MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM update very soon. Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 brings in a lot of new features like split screen, faster app launching speed, application prioritisation and more. It will be interesting to see if the Smart Assistant launched with MIUI 9 in China will make its way to India or not.

The next big announcement was from the Twitter account of Redmi. Redmi confirmed that the new phone launching will not be the Mi Note 3 or even a new Redmi Note phone.

The Xiaomi Mi Note series has been hugely popular in China and after the success of the Redmi Note series, it was speculated that the Mi Note series will also debut in India albeit a higher price tag. Xiaomi teased the launch of the Mi A1 in a similar way back in August and it looks like the new phone will be an India-centric phone and compete with other mid rangers that claim to have the “best selfie camera.”

Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi 5A in China earlier in October which is the successor to the Redmi 4A. In August, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 5A in China, with a 16MP front camera which focuses on selfies. It might be possible that these two phones will be launched with new names and start a new lineup of mid-ranged selfie phones in India.

Xiaomi has launched the successor to 2016’s Redmi 4A, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A in China. Two selling points of the new Redmi 5A according Xiaomi are its ‘8-Day battery life’ and the fact that it weighs only 137 grams.

Just like the Redmi 4A, the new smartphone is also powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset, quad-core CPU clocked at 1.4GHz, along with 2GB of RAM. There’s only one storage model announced at the time of its launch but, more storage and RAM variants are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The current model has 16GB of onboard storage which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card. The dual-SIM Redmi 5A is powered by a 3000 mAh battery which seems to be a downgrade when compared to the Redmi 4A which packs a 3120 mAh battery. The device will run Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box with Xiaomi’s custom MIUI 9 skin on top.

The Redmi 5A has a 13MP rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture, burst mode, panorama mode, HDR mode, and more. To the front is a 5MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture. The smartphone records 1920 x 1080 px videos.

  • Leaked Poster Of Xiaomi Redmi 5A Reveals 8-Day Battery Life

Leaked Poster Of Xiaomi Redmi 5A Reveals 8-Day Battery Life

After a recent leak revealing what the upcoming Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 might look like, the Redmi 5A now seems to have been leaked. A promotional poster of what might be the new Xiaomi Redmi 5A has been leaked on China’s social networking site, Weibo.

From the poster, there are a few things we can infer. The Redmi 5A won’t look all that different from its predecessor. It looks like the Redmi 5A will have a metal unibody rather than the plastic build found on the Redmi 4A. Since only the back of the phone is visible, it is hard to deduce anything about the front of the device. There seems to be antenna lines at the top of the phone and the back camera along with the LED flash are placed between the two antenna lines. The text translates to “Lightweight and Long Battery Life.” The poster reveals that the phone will weigh at about 137 grams and have an incredible 8-day battery life. The poster goes on confirming that this smartphone will use a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and run on MIUI 9 out of the box.

A recent listing on the certification website TENNA revealed a few details about the Xiaomi Redmi 5A. The smartphone will have a 5 inch display with a 1280 x 720 px resolution. The listing mentions a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor although there is no mention of the name of the chipset. The phone will be launched in 2GB RAM/16GB storage and 3GB RAM/32GB storage variants. The poster confirms the presence of the MIUI 9 over Android 7.1 Nougat. The images revealed along with the listing have been corroborated with the leak of the promotional poster revealing a metal unibody design.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A is expected to be priced at 599 Yuan (Rs 5900 approx.) for the 2GBRAM/16GB storage variant and 699 Yuan (Rs 6900 approx.) for the 3GBRAM/32GB storage variant.
