    India is likely to be the first country that will see the launch of a new range of budget devices. Lately, Samsung featured its own in-house mobile operating system Tizen. According to reports, the South Korean manufacturer is expected to launch a smartphone within a month in India that runs on the Tizen OS.

    Based on the Linux platform, Samsung is doing all that it can do to make their OS popular among consumers. The company launched the operating system with their wearable platform and did manage to get a positive response. Reports also suggest that the latest Tizen-based handset will be competing against the smartphones under Rs. 10,000. It is rumoured to have a 4-inch touchscreen, dual-SIM ability, a 3.2MP camera and 512 MB RAM with standard connectivity features. In terms of memory, it is rumored to have 4 GB of internal memory expandable up to 32 GB via microSD card.

    Experts are quite skeptical over the launch of the new mobile operating system, as Android still rules the roost with almost 3/4th of the market share. The low cost Firefox OS phones did manage to do quite well, though primarily for their inexpensive pricing. India being a major playground for smartphone manufacturers, the ploy could turn the tide in favour of Samsung, who has reportedly lost five percent share from the last quarter.

    The likes of Xiaomi and Huawei have captured a huge amount of market share after launching budget Android handsets. Recently, Google also announced its budget Android One devices for India. Will this strategy work out in Samsung’s favour, is something we have to wait and watch.

    1. Use of Motion Gestures

    Samsung has added some very convenient hand gesture controls in the new Note 4. The Note 4’s Motions and Gestures setting lets you customise a number of gesture controls. Switch on ‘Direct Call’ and it will let you pick up and hold the phablet to your ear to make a call to a predefined default number. The option of ‘Smart Alert’ will make your device vibrate to indicate new notifications and events when you pick it up. The ‘Mute/Pause’ option lets you mute incoming calls or alarms by turning the device over or placing your palm over it. Finally, ‘Palm Swipe to Capture’ lets you place the side of your hand on the screen and swipe it across to capture a screenshot.

    You can customise the Quick Settings directly from the Settings panel. Also, you can drag the panel down from the top, tap the Quick Settings icon, and then tap the pencil icon to start editing.

    3. Use One-handed Operations

    Samsung has added loads of features to make one-handed operations more manageable. Under Settings > One-handed operation, you can choose from three different one-handed utilities. First one is the option of reducing the screen size that lets you adjust the screen size and layout by swiping out from the midpoint or either edge of the app. One-handed input compacts the apps down like the Dialer, in-call buttons, and Samsung keyboard. As soon as the on-going app compacts, the Side key panel will pop up Android’s navigation buttons on the screen so that you can access them quickly.

    4. Wider Selfies

    Catering to the worldwide selfie trend, Samsung has added a Panorama-like selfie feature which lets you take wider selfies. Open your Note 4’s camera, switch to front camera, tap ‘Mode’ and hit the ‘Wide selfie’ option. Put your finger on the heart rate sensor and lift it to take a photo, and say ‘Cheese’. You’ll get a panorama-like outline which you have to fill by tilting the device left and right. When the blue frame has reached each end of the white frame, your spacious selfie is done.

    5. Use Alternative Commands to Snap Pictures

    Tap anywhere on the screen inside the camera app—just not on the shutter button—and then tap the Settings icon. Tap again for more settings. Tap on the volume key towards the bottom of the screen. From here, you can set the volume, whether it’s to snap a photo or record a video. Also, it acts as a zoom controller. In that same settings menu, you can turn on the voice control to take photos or record videos.

    6. S-Pen’s Improved Functionalities

    One of the primary distinguishing features of Galaxy Note 4 is the integrated S Pen functionality. The S Pen has been around since the original Samsung Galaxy Note and has got better with every new release. The Air Command pop-up menu launched with the Note 3 and it has refined largely for the S Pen and large display of the Note line. One improvement that is tough to demonstrate is the increased pressure sensitivity from 1,000+ to over 2,000+ level. The most convenient feature is the ability of the S Pen to select multiple images by dragging it around the screen, more like you do it with your mouse on your desktop.

    Because, why not? It’s going to be winter soon and you’re probably going to be sporting gloves until next April. It’s hard to use a phone with gloves on. Fortunately, you can increase the Note 4 display’s touch sensitivity from the settings menu, so you don’t have to take those gloves off just to send a text message. And also, you won’t have to look forward to frost-bitten fingers anytime soon.

    8.  Play with Depth of Field

    Samsung followed suite of HTC by bringing in the Selective Focus feature. To enable it, open Camera, tap Mode, Selective Focus, and take a photo as usual. There are ‘Near focus’, ‘Far focus’, and ‘Pan focus’. The first makes the object of your photo stand out against a blurred background, the second does the opposite, and the last one makes both the subject and the background noticable.

    9. Get Notified when a Doorbell Rings or your Baby Cries:

    There is built-in doorbell detector and baby crying detector in the new Note 4. When your phone detects these respective sounds, it makes the smartphone vibrate. You can find both these options in the Settings, Accessibility, Hearing, Sound detectors menu.

    10. The Music Square

    Samsung has added an interesting feature in Note 4’s built-in Media player, called Music Square. You can find it inside the app’s three-square menu. The square has an algorithm which analyses your songs and matches them to four-mood categories. You can also create a mood-based playlist.

    Samsung Gear S Smartwatch Goes Up for Pre-Orders in India

    Samsung’s Tizen-based Gear S smartwatch, announced earlier this year, is now available for pre-orders in India. The smartwatch is priced at Rs. 28,900 and is available for pre-order on the company’s online store for just Rs. 1,000.

    The Gear S smartwatch sports a 2-inch curved AMOLED display with a resolution of 360×480 pixels. The watch will be powered by a dual-core processor clocked at 1 GHz and a 512MB RAM. It comes with 4 GB of storage and a 300mAh battery support, which Samsung claims can last up to two days.

    However, the standout feature of the watch is a SIM card slot, which allows voice calling via 2G or 3G SIM. The watch also supports Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi connectivity, though it does not sport a camera. Unlike Samsung’s other Tizen-based Gear watches, it has a standalone music player.

    That being said, the Gear S smartwatch is not a standalone device and requires one of the compatible Samsung smartphones to activate it and download apps for your watch.

    Reports of Samsung’s next flagship, Galaxy S6, did its first round of leaks yesterday. Now, a phablet with model number SM-G7200 has been spotted on GFXBench, clearly indicating to be the next iteration in the Grand series, the Galaxy Grand 3.

    If these GFXBench results are to be believed, then the Grand 3 seems to be quite an overhaul over its predecessor. Going by the reports, the upcoming flagship in Grand series is likely to feature a 5.5-inch display, which is slightly larger compared to the Grand 2, though the screen resolution remains the same at 720p.

    Under the hood, it will be powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon clocked at 1.2GHz, bundled with a 1.5GB RAM and Adreno 306 graphics. In terms of memory, it is likely to have 16 GB of onboard storage, out of which 12 GB will be available to users.

    The camera seems to be the biggest upgrade. The Grand 3 will likely get a 12MP rear camera along with a 5MP front-facing camera, compared to the 8MP rear and 1.9MP front snapper found on the Grand 2.

    The Grand 3 is expected to run Android 4.4.4 KitKat. As of now, there is no confirmation regarding the Lollipop update. We can expect the Grand 3 to launch in India anytime before the end of this calendar year.

    Now, according to the recent report from SamMobile, the South Korean giant has already started working on the Galaxy S6, and has codenamed it as ‘Project Zero.’ Previous flagship phones have gone by the names such as Project J, Project H, Project K and Project T in the past few years.

    According to the publication, the Project Zero codename signifies that the company is developing the device from scratch — putting lots of thoughts into its design and materials. Right now, not much can be said about the upcoming flagship. However, previous rumors have hinted that the Galaxy S6 might come with a flexible OLED display, like the one included in the Galaxy Note Edge. It is also possible that Samsung will opt for a metal design like it did with the just-announced models, Galaxy A3 and A5.

    A few rumours surfaced online reveal that the Galaxy S6 could be a monstrous device featuring a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED 4K (3840×2160 pixels) display, a 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor, and 4 GB of RAM. Additionally, it is also expected to boast a 20-megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation, and other features like a retina scanner and a fingerprint scanner, which already come with the present flagships.

    The company has pledged that it will be bringing several changes to the future device to lure in more customers, after a huge setback during the Q3 earnings. Over the past years, the company has been criticised for the use of cheap plastic material in the high-end phones.     Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge, the world’s only smartphone with a functional curved touchscreen, finally gets a launch date. The phone will debut on 14th of this month, but in the US only. Samsung Telecommunications America officially announced this yesterday.

    The Galaxy Edge is a one of a kind device with a fully functional curved display for hassle-free access to notifications. The edge screen gives access to e-mail, internet, apps, notifications, news and more without the need to navigate from the main screen. The phone did grab some attention at floor shows this fall for its bizarre design.

    The Galaxy Note Edge will go on sale via major carriers across the US. AT&T is reportedly offering it at a starting price of $400 on a two-year contract.

    Apart from the curved display, the phablet is more or less identical to the Galaxy Note 4 when it comes to features and peripherals. As of now, there is no word regarding its price, but we can expect it to cost a bomb, as the Galaxy Note 4 is priced at a staggering Rs. 58,300. Samsung has also revealed that the Galaxy Note Edge will be a limited-edition phablet and won’t be produced in large stocks.

    The original Samsung Galaxy Tab S series of tablets released in July. However, there have been talks about the LTE-A variant of the supersize tablet. The company has unveiled a version of the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 with 225 Mbps LTE-Advanced inside, giving the tablet the power to utilize a fast data connection. Well, the speed is well enough to download 421 songs in a single minute, if the official estimates are to be believed.

    It is otherwise the same Android slate you’ve seen before, although we are not complaining given the slim profile and super-vivid display. That means, the Tab S 10.5 LTE-A runs on the Exynos 5 Octa chipset, has 3 GB of RAM and comes with 16/32 GB storage capacities.

    Samsung Galaxy Tab S LTE-A features display of 10.5-inch with 1,600×2,560 pixels resolution. The tablet runs on Android 4.4 KitKat with TouchWiz UI on top of it. It is also equipped with 16 GB and 32 GB of built-in storage and microSD card for expansion up to 128 GB. The Tab S sports a good 8MP camera on the back and a 2.1MP front-shooter. The device is powered by a solid 4900 mAh battery unit. It also comes with a fingerprint sensor for unlocking the tablet.

    Samsung has only announced the upgraded Tab S for South Korea, where it will cost 799,700 won ($743 approx). Since other countries are still waiting for the LTE-A bandwagon to break into their market, the new upgrade might not be available anytime soon.

    Samsung’s Galaxy A series has been in rumors since the past few months, but with the revelations made by a Tech journal, Korea IT Times, it is now clear that Samsung is all set to launch the new A series smartphones as early as next month. The new handsets that are said to be the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5 and Galaxy A7 are expected to come with a premium metallic material, just like Galaxy Alpha. According to the report submitted by Korea IT Times, the smartphones will be launched in China first, followed by selected markets, and will be available shortly after the launch.

    It is said that the new Galaxy A series is directly targeted at Xiaomi, which was recently designated as the third-largest smartphone maker in the world by IDC. While Xiaomi is only catering to selected Asian countries, it has swelled its shipment three times since last year, only lagging behind Samsung and Apple.

    According to the earlier reports, the Galaxy A7 is set to feature a 5.2-inch 1080p display, octa-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB internal storage, a 12-megapixel camera, and a 4.7-megapixel front camera. On the software front, it will run on Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box.

    As for Galaxy A5, it is said to come with a 5.2-inch HD display, 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, 16 GB internal storage, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front camera, and a 2,300mAh battery.

    Both the devices are set to launch in China next month with other select markets to follow. However, the news has surfaced that they might not see a mainstream launch like many other Galaxy phones in the west.

    Following up the launch of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy Note 4 in India, new reports have emerged suggesting that the Galaxy Note Edge featuring a curved display will be arrive in India before the end of the calender year.

    The unique feature of the Galaxy Note Edge is its flexible display panel around the right side, which is a separate display panel alongside the primary display panel. Apart from the curved display, the phablet is more or less identical to the Galaxy Note 4 when it comes to features and peripherals.

    The Galaxy Note Edge flaunts a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED display, with a QHD resolution, adding an extra 160 pixels on the third side of the display. It is powered by a 2.7Ghz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor or an Exynos 5433 octa-core processor (1.9GHz quad-core+1.3GHz quad-core), depending on the region. The one with the Snapdragon variant of the Galaxy Note 4 was launched in India, and we expect that same would be the case with Galaxy Note Edge as well.

    It has a 16MP rear shooter with OIS, along with a 3.7 MP front camera, massive 32GB of internal storage, a microSD slot, and a 3,000mAh battery. The phablet runs on the latest Android KitKat atop with TouchWiz UI.

    Facebook and Samsung Reportedly Collaborating to Develop a Smartphone

    Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s meeting with Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jay-yong has triggered rumours that the two firms are discussing the possibility of a new Facebook phone. According to sources, the two parties met at Samsung’s headquarters, they were joined by Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, along with Samsung’s mobile chief Shin Jong-kyun along with other top level executives from both companies.

    This raised speculations that Facebook and Samsung are planning a Facebook phone. As we saw in the past, Facebook’s last phone the HTC First, which had Facebook Home software layer with Android UI on top was discontinued, same goes with HTC ChaCha, another Facebook phone which had a physical Facebook button for quick posting to the social network. Though, both devices couldn’t succeed and did not take off.

    It’s not the first time these power houses are working together, the much hyped Samsung Gear VR has been launched in partnership with Oculus last month, which is now owned by Facebook. If rumours are true, it will interesting to see what this device can offer to users and if it can it be a competitor to Google’s Android One Project.

    Samsung unveiled its latest phablet Galaxy Note 4 in India at the price of Rs.61,500. This new addition to Note series, was first unveiled a month back at this year’s IFA Berlin. It has finally arrived in India and will go on sale at midnight on October 17th. Along with that, the company announced the partnership with Vodafone to give 2GB Data free for the users for 2 months.

    Galaxy Note 4 is now the company’s flagship phablet, which comes with a 5.7 inch QHD display. Samsung claims that despite the higher resolution, the Galaxy Note 4 will deliver 7.5% more battery life; it features a 3220 mAh battery with fast charging technology. Meanwhile, under the hood, the Galaxy Note 4 is powered by quad core, Snapdragon 805 chipset clocked at 2.7 GHz, It comes coupled with 3GB RAM. It offers 32GB internal memory with support for expanding  the memory to upto 64GB.

    Along with smartphone today, Samsung also launched Gear S for a price of Rs. 29,000. The Gear S features a 2-inch curved Super AMOLED display with a 360×480 pixel resolution. It comes with 4GB of inbuilt storage and is backed by a 3000mAh Li-ion battery, rated to deliver 2 days of charge with typical usage.

    The IP67-certified dust and water resistant Gear S shows notifications from text messages, social networks, calendars and other applications independently without the need to access the smartphone.

And as the name implies, it retains the S Pen stylus that made previous Galaxy Note phones great for taking notes. Sliding it out instantly transforms your phone into a note-taking machine, letting you write out notes and draw diagrams right on the device’s display. With Note 4, S-pen has also undergone some changes. It is slimmer with better grip and with improved pressure sensitivity on the tip. Compared to the Note 3, the Note 4’s pen recognizes twice as many levels of pressure as you press down on the screen, allowing for smoother, more natural handwriting.

    One other big improvement is the camera.  You can use the camera in unison with the S Pen. A new feature called Snap Note allows you to take a picture of a piece of paper (or whiteboard) and change what’s in the picture. One of the best features on new Note 4 is Wefies or wide selfies, which much like panorama mode lets you take wide selfies. Samsung has also added Optical image stabilization (OIS) in the Galaxy Note 4.

    4.  Security Features

    The Note 4 is the first phone in the line to feature a built-in fingerprint scanner, giving the device a big security boost. It works just like the scanner that debuted with Samsung’s Galaxy S5, just slide your fingertip over the phone’s home button to easily unlock it. The feature helps you keep your work phone locked down, with no need to fuss with cumbersome password screens. And the scanner also lets you access Private Mode, where you can store your most sensitive business files. Also like the Galaxy S5, the Note 4 supports Knox, a suite of security features developed by Samsung. It includes Knox Workspace, which lets you run secure business apps in a special profile that’s separate from the rest of your phone, ensuring that rogue applications can’t access your private data.

    The audio recorder on the device has also received some really handy and functional upgrades. The device can now track voices in 8 distinct directions so it great for getting quality sounds in multi-people environment. The interview mode on the device cancels out the unnecessary ambient noise and hence gives a clearer audio output.
