Vine Co-Founder To Launch New Video Looping App ‘byte’

HD Video cameras on smartphones opened a lot of possibilities for app developers. One such video looping application was the wildly popular Vine app. It allowed users to share 6 second clips which turned out to be a highly successful phenomenon. Twitter bought the app for 30 Million $ in 2012 even before its official launch. Recently, the co-founder of Vine, Dom Hoffman has announced the successor to his first app, which will be released in Spring 2019.

The Concept & What Happened With Vine

Vine was the platform that kick-started the career of many stars like YouTuber Logan Paul and singer Shawn Mendes. Logan Paul and his brother Jake Paul started making vines in their high school and are now one of the highest earning YouTubers. Similarly, Shawn Mendes also joined the platform at age 15. After which he gained a lot of attention after his first vine went viral.

But, Twitter had to shut down Vine back in January 2017 due to a couple of reasons. Some of them include fierce competition from Instagram, Twitter’s cash crunch and no scope of ads because the clips were only 6 seconds long. From being one of the highest downloaded free application on Apple’s app store it vanquished into darkness and was ultimately shut down. Albeit, Twitter keeps the video archive alive online.

    The Fate Of ‘Byte’

Dom Hoffman has previously talked about creating a V2 of the Vine app. But it was only recently that he tweeted that the app will be called byte and will be a successor to Vine. A website and a twitter page of the app is already online. The twitter page has reached 68k followers which indicates people are hyped about the Vine successor.

Although, not much detail about the byte app is available, Dom Hoffman says that they have a solid concept and proper funding for the upcoming app. However, times have changed and so has the competition. TikTok, another video looping app has seen tremendous growth in recent times. Competing with it will be hard for byte. The true fate will only be revealed after the app is launched and available for download.

  • Vines Are Now Only A Swipe Away on the Apple Watch

Vines Are Now Only A Swipe Away on the Apple Watch

After being worked upon for the past couple of months, Vine has finally come to the Apple Watch. The app had been under construction since at least this summer when it was first showcased in an on-stage demonstration at an Apple event in June. Apple Watch Vine

The launch of the watchOS app, that took place yesterday on the 24th of November, allows users to run videos on their gadget, while at the same time allows a feature that other than being borderline obsessive also lets you keep track of the number of times your video has been looped.

However despite all of Apple’s efforts, there is a sense of incompetence with various apps on the Watch. It seems like too many iPhone features are being crammed up in a small space of a tiny watch-screen. This new app will shrink down a lot of your favourite Vines on the gadget making them available simply a swipe away. The entire endeavour, however, still seems a little wasted, owing to the size of the screen and the fact that they load at quite a slow speed.

  • Social Media – The Brightest Star In Showbiz Today

Social Media – The Brightest Star In Showbiz Today

Only for the 90s kid does it seem a rather difficult task to get recognition for something they’re good at. Today’s unapologetic society’s mantra goes something like this – so what if I’m not good at anything? I can be famous too and you can’t judge me for it. Today it’s not about being good at something; it’s all about being famous. This mind-set has translated down to the vortex of social media, which was initially used to communicate with friends and people all around the world. Today, social media has been made the biggest business mogul, management company, call it what you may but it boils down to being called the new kingmaker.

    social media

However, if we look at the rise of social media in two different stages – when it was just introduced to us and now, we will have to admit that we have come a long way in understanding and utilizing the power of social media. Earlier, we would see social media sites filled with statuses that were not spelt correctly due to the raging popularity of the SMS language, they even gave rise to stars like Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian (pre-Kanye West version). Social media did not seem like the place where anybody who was really serious about anything would want to be. But, today we see it take a whole new turn, with artists, writers, fashion bloggers, singers, actors, comedians and everybody with a good sense of aesthetic take things into their own hands. The post-modern social media looks like it’s been created out of a revolution by anti-stupid people. So much so, that some modern age stars are having to change their ways in order to gain respect in the present society.

    Beyonce Twitter

Now, let’s name some of these famous kingmakers – Facebook, Twitter, Vine, INSTAGRAM, Vine, YouTube to name a few. Next, let us have a look at a couple of people they have turned into legit famous people who are now termed as ‘celebrities’:

It would be unfair to start this list without naming the queen of social media, Mrs.Kim Kardashian West. She’s seen it all, and done it all. She is the biggest success of social media and reality TV. You can follow her on Twitter, Instagram and even on her website kimkardashianwest.com. There’s not much to be said about her, we’re all secretly following her anyway –

Secondly, we have comedians all over the world putting up live shows on their YouTube channels, but we’re going to talk about someone closer home – Kanan Gill and Biswa Kalyan Rath’s ‘Pretentious Movie Reviews’. All said and done, they said everything we wanted to say about Bollywood films, and they do it all in good faith. Here’s their latest review.

Next we have a true blue Vine celebrity named Logan Paul, who has really got what Vine is all about – short, six second videos about anything. He’s picked humour. Click here to check them out. You can also follow him on Twitter and Instagram.

Before we forget the original YouTube mega child star, let’s put him down on our list – Justin Bieber. Who knows whether he’s still famous or not, the point is that he can still make it on this list and a bunch of others too. Here’s a video of Justin Bieber before he became The Biebs –

    And now –

Another desi celebrity is YouTube and Vine star, Jus Reign. He kind of has a ‘Superwoman’ vibe going on, and makes funny videos about all sorts of desi-kid problems. Here’s an example-

And because we mentioned YouTube star Superwoman, here’s a video about what she does –

Last but not the least we have on our list is already an established author, who has recently made her re-appearance into the limelight via her now famous twitter account. Our beloved – JK Rowling, agreed that this list might be horribly degrading for her to be in, but her Twitter account is fabulous.

These are just a few of the many celebrities we can follow on various social networking sites. Whether it’s made things personal or impersonal is also a debatable topic, but it has definitely made things easier for passive and harmless followers. Let us know who your favourite celebrities on social media are.

  • 7 Months After Launch, Vine Hits 40 Million Users

7 Months After Launch, Vine Hits 40 Million Users

Twitter’s video sharing app, Vine, has been overshadowed by the addition of video to Instagram, but that hasn’t stopped millions of people from signing up for Vine. Vine announced this afternoon that it just hit 40 million registered users today – a huge jump from the 13 million users it announced in June.

However, the company behind the app, which lets users share looping videos of up to six seconds, doesn’t give any data on the number of active users. Without the all-important active user figures, it’s difficult to draw too many conclusions from Vine’s announcement, though at least the numbers appear to be heading in the right direction for the company.

For a long time, Vine was an iOS exclusive, but the Twitter-owned startup released an Android app in June, and has been constantly improving both versions since then.

Instagram recently attempted to thwart Vine’s rise with its own video component, but it lives within the main app and its 15 second limit has inspired less creative results. By comparison, Instagram had 130 million active users as of late July when it introduced video, and likely has more than that by now.

More competition in the mobile short-video space appeared this month with the arrival of MixBit, created by YouTube co-founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen.

Vine For Android Updated With Push Notifications

An updated version of the Vine application is now available for download for the owners of Android-based devices, namely version 1.3.3, with some appealing improvements packed inside.

With the newest version, Viners now have the ability to share user profiles through more than just the SMS app (hopefully all Android apps with sharing capabilities will be available). Users can also look forward to push notifications, so they never miss a mention or re-Vine.

Furthermore, the new application release provides the possibility to share any public post to Twitter or Facebook, while also delivering a variety of other bug fixes and improvements.

For those of you who don’t keep up with the social media, Vine is an app that allows you to create 6 seconds of video in a looping feed that you can tag and then post. Owned by Twitter, consider this the video version of the social messaging app, if the messages continued to repeat over and over again.

Vine for Android is available through the Google Play store for free and it is compatible with devices running Ice Cream Sandwich and later platforms.

Acura Teases NSX Prototype before 4th August Reveal

Honda’s luxury sub-brand Acura will reveal the prototype NSX on the 4th of August, when it shows up at Mid-Ohio Raceway for the Honda 200 IndyCar race, but the genuine production car isn’t scheduled to arrive until 2015. But just to keep fanboys (like myself) enthusiastic about the return of the sports car, Acura has released Vine and Instagram videos with very exciting snippets of the mid-engined coupe lapping a test track in both the dry and the wet.

The concept version for the new NSX was first unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show last year, with a slightly revised version making an appearance in January of this year. Honda has confirmed that the production car has retained the concept’s Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All Wheel Drive) system, while the styling and themes and proportions of the concept will also carry on to the final product.

The Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system features a mid-mounted V6 petrol unit coupled to an electric motor to drive the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Twin electric motors will drive the front wheels at the same time, making the NSX an all-wheel drive car. A total power of around 400 brake horsepower is expected from the system, but the torque from the three electric motors and engine will probably be the factor which really sets it apart. Great suspension and sharp handling is promised, with the twin motors up front permitting very responsive torque vectoring.

The videos made available by Acura can be found at the links below.

  • Report : Facebook To Add Video To Instagram on June 20

Report : Facebook To Add Video To Instagram on June 20

Facebook may be preparing to add video-sharing features to its Instagram app, in a direct response to the popularity of Twitter’s Vine app.

According to TechCrunch, the company will unveil the new service at an event on June 20th. Earlier it was rumoured that Facebook will launch it’s own RSS service at the June event.

Instagram is a popular photo-sharing application that is available for Android and iOS. Facebook had acquired Instagram in 2012 for a whopping $1 billion. About three months ago, Instagram had announced that it has 100 million monthly active users and these users are uploading over 40 million photos per day.

    instagram

There are several clues suggesting that video may be the next step for Instagram, which now boasts of 100 million active users. For example, Facebook has prevented Vine from using its friend-finding feature. By doing this, Facebook looks embed users into its platform first, rather than a service like Twitter.

Another instance of Facebook protecting its brand is how it is preventing Instagram uploads from being posted directly onto Twitter. Users can still share Instagram photos on Twitter, but users need to click the link to see them. By directing users back to the Instagram platform, users will spend more time in the photo sharing application.

Adding the ability to shoot and share short videos directly from the wildly popular application could certainly give Facebook a boost in the social media war.

Last week, Facebook announced that it was enabling hashtags on its site, also comparable to Twitter capabilities.

  • Vine Now Available For Android

    Vine Now Available For Android

Vine for Android is now available for devices running Android 4.0 and above.

While the wait has been arduous for thousands of Android users accustomed to simulteanous app releases, but Twitter has finally released Vine for Android to the world. The six-second video social network has been the talk of the media and journalism circuit since its iPhone release in January, and an Android version was promised shortly thereafter.

The initial Android app is bare-bones: you can view the masterpieces from your stream of followers, upload your own six-second Vines, explore popular posts and Editors’ Choice clips, and share content to Twitter and Facebook. Unlike the iPhone version, however, you can’t tag users in posts, nor can you use hashtags. You also can’t engage the front-facing camera, something that was added to a previous iPhone release. There are also no push notifications in the first version, which will be disappointing to some users.

Vine for Android includes a Zoom feature, something that does not exist on the iOS version.

Mainly, though, Vine for Android is slow. Whereas the iPhone version renders video while you’re filming, the Android equivalent takes a long time to render after the filming. It takes over 30 seconds to render a six-second video.

In a blogpost on 3 June, Twitter said Android users can expect, “frequent updates with new features […] as well as bug fixes and performance improvements” in the coming weeks.  This will include front-facing camera support, push notifications, the ability to mention people and use hashtags, and the ability to search.

  • Twitter’s Vine App For Android “Coming Soon”

Twitter’s Vine App For Android “Coming Soon”

Vine, Twitter’s popular video sharing app, has been a success on iOS and consistently remained as being one of the top ten social apps.

    vine

The free app allows you to record 6-second looping videos and share them via Vine, Twitter or Facebook. Dom Hofmann, the original creator of Vine, spoke with The Verge and he noted that a future enhancement that will be coming to iOS will be the option to tag people, which as a result will make it even more social.

In addition, Vine is poised to expand past Apple and integrate into the lives of Android users.

The company told The Verge recently that an Android version is coming soon, but didn’t say exactly when we can expect it to hit the Google Play store.

Clues pointing to a Vine Android app have been out ever since February, when the company has started looking for a lead Android engineer. Why would anyone do that, unless they were developing an Android app?

More interesting though is the thought process that went into creating Vine. Vine co-founder Dom Hofmann told The Verge that the key to the app was not in “reducing complexity” as Steve Jobs and Jony Ive were noted for saying, but rather “concealing complexity”.

In other words, allowing users to do something relatively complex in a simple way. Quite an interesting interview if any of you are interested.

In any case we’ll keep you guys updated, but in the meantime Android users, are you guys excited?
