A banner being put up by ground staff at the WWDC event being held this year at Moscone West. There have been other leaks of high res MacBooks with Retina displays and a new design. But the above image pretty much confirms the announcement of iOS 6, below which if you read correctly you will find the moniker ” World’s most Advanced Mobile Operating System” (Proud much Apple? )
The event happens on Monday, so stay tuned for the whole low down.
Google maps are set to add a new dimension! The announcement was made by Google from their San Francisco office where a press conference was held, keeping in mind Apple’s press event, the WWDC, which is set to take place next week. It is deploying a fleet of small, camera-equipped airplanes, via contractors, above several cities, the Internet search company’s latest step in its ambitious and sometimes controversial plan to create a digital map of the world. The images would be recorded at a 45-degree angle and would be integrated with Google Earth.
We’re trying to create the illusion that you’re just flying over the city, almost as if you were in your own personal helicopter, said Peter Birch, a product manager for Google Earth.
The imagery would be done at a 45-degree angle.
Brian McClendon, Google’s head of engineering for its maps product, said that privacy issues were the same as that accompany aerial imagery. Privacy has been an issue for various countries, especially when Google’s Street View cars had been inadvertently collecting emails, passwords and other personal data from people’s home wireless networks.
A demo of a San Francisco map in 3d was showcased and it was nothing short of spectacular.
It also announced that Google maps for Android would soon get an offline caching feature, allowing users to download a part of a map on their devices and use them later.
Google doesn’t want to say when these features will become available, making it pretty obvious that today’s announcement is meant to preempt Apple’s rumored announcements next week.
iCloud is the new age MobileMe replacement. It integrates the existing Contacts, Calendars and Mail apps with 6 new apps. These apps are:
App Store: Provides a Full Purchase history of all applications ever purchased from the iStore.
iBooks : Will download and sync all books with furthest read location to all iDevices. You don’t have to worry about where you stopped reading on your iPhone. Just pick up your iPad and continue.
Backup: Takes a daily backup of your iDevices which include the following: pictures, settings, contacts, messages, apps, app data etc. When you switch to a new phone, you simply log-in and your iPhone gets synced from your account on the Cloud. A truly wireless experience
iTunes: This is one of the most amazing implementations from Apple. They will sync your entire music library across all devices to the cloud. All music purchased from any iDevice is available to sync with upto 10 iDevices, with an infinite number of downloads. The system will also sync your ripped library for an additional $24.99 per year. It will check its database for songs that already exist and add them to your account through its Match service, which means that if the iTunes Store doesn’t have your song, only then will it upload the track.
PhotoStream: A new way to share photos on the cloud. Photos taken on any device are synced instantly with all other devices. The iCloud will store the last 1000 images online while your Mac will store all photos forever. If you want to save the images then simply create an album and the photos will stay forever. The PhotoStream option is available within the Photos app so you don’t have to launch a separate application and there’s nothing new to learn. It also works with the PC using the My Pictures folder.
Documents: Finally you have Documents. This app syncs all Pages, Numbers, and Keynote data between all of your iOS devices.
iCloud is an amazing service launched by Apple today. The service is free for all users with a 5Gb limit on data. PhotoStream doesn’t count towards this data limit. There will also be no in-app advertising as was previously suspected. This incredible service is the next incarnation of Apples now obsolete MobileMe service.
Apple has just announced then new iMessage service at the WWDC as a part of the new iOS 5
Includes delivery receipts, with the option to read them. A typer indicator, so you know if the other person is snoozing, and you can push to all your devices. It handles text messages, photos, video, contacts, group messaging.
