Nokia N900 gets Ice Cream Sandwich, we say wooo!

A hacker with his estranged N900 has managed to get some desert love on his not so shiny N900. The hack is an extremely early build and is even referenced as being “pre-pre-alpha,”. But still to have Google’s latest OS running on a N900 will give some Nokia fanboys a thrill they could have had, but may now never get. Nokia+Android.

The N900 runs NITroid, a project in the N900 Maemo community.
This phone should be something for India – runs a stable version of Linux, has full development platform so you can code “anything” and get it to run on the mobile network (well GSM). You do not need Apple’s approval to distribute the software, nor Google or Microsoft. Anything that works on Ubuntu should be possible to recompile for the ARM processor.

They have also benchmarked the phone, and it comperes well with the SGS2 when both runs Android. The N900 can work on 1.15GHz – almost the same as Samsung. Overclocking is acheived by software that is simple to install but relieves Nokia from its warranty obligations.
